Hayate is pretty good at fixing that. Though then presents the homework issue, I guess.
Being at the Heavens, control the land. Being at the Earth, remove its keystones. And lay bare the scarlet hearts of man!
People don't normally cough up blood from overstress.
In anime or manga, I guess. That said, it's often used as a sign of an EXISTING condition that was exacerbated by overwork. Which is equally as bad.
I don't really consider it that big of a deal either. I mean, I was more interested in what Hayate actually knows about the people he works with than Ruka's health.

It's probably not that serious. It's presumably just setup for Yozora or whatever her name is coming in to screw stuff up.
Actually, that'd be an interesting twist. Having her agent fake her getting sick and using that excuse you guys came up with to get her back.

Actually if you had to pick a character to kill off to create drama Ruka is near the top of the list of choices. Hamster and Sakuya perhaps being the other top choices.
Not a background character. Someone who we know pretty well and like and care about, but not too central to the plot like Nagi (or even Maria), nor with rabid fans like Hina.
Not that I expect Ruka to die, it's not that kind of manga. But she might have a really bad time of it.

I'd actually put Ruka at the top of the might die list. Not really the right kind of series for that since it would pretty much irrevocably change the tone.
In universe sense, though.
