a "chatterbox"-type thread in which casual talk about what everyone is reading could take place.
Well, let's see how it's received.

How are things reading-wise?

Some writing.

I'm currently reading GEB which is awesome, Flow My Tears, The Policeman Said by Philip K. Dick, also pretty good, and A Feast of Crows by George R.R. Martin. Haven't read much of that one yet, though.

I'm very very eagerly awaiting the North American release of the ninth book in the Malazan Book of the Fallen series. I'm thinking I actually might just order it on Amazon from the UK or something.

About halfway through Flann O'Brien's At Swim-Two-Birds, which doesn't seem as interesting as I thought it would be, but we'll see.

I also acquired a copy of GEB, but haven't begun reading it, because, well, I'm kind of intimidated by it. I have become a coward in my (not so) old age. And That's Terrible.

no one will notice that I changed this

Well, I recommend the Malazan Book of the Fallen series but keep in mind that Gardens of the Moon, the first book, is kind of a hard read and also not that indictive of the rest of the series. Also keep in mind that the first three books, while all pretty good alone, really just set up the story that's told in the rest of the series.

I've started Children of Dune, in which the series' pace apparently picks up a little bit again. Don't get me wrong; Messiah was as mind screwy as ever and still had that astronomical WTF quotient that made me go past book one, but let's just say it was a good insomnia book. Thank goodness for other ways of maintaining one's attention!

Still reading Kafka On The Beach. I kinda promised my English teacher...but it's so slow! And uninteresting.

I expected The Lucifer Effect to be a bit less poetic with the descriptions and a bit more dryly scientific. Fascinating nonetheless. I had no clue the Stanford prison experiment began with sudden mock-arrests.

Today I bought Agents of Artifice the first Planeswalker novel from Magic The Gathering. Probably won't be reading it for a while, but it's there now.

The Book of Margery Kempe and the Niblungenliead

At least niblung has the good decency to have murder going on in it, Margy just pretends to be pals with Jesus, crys everywhere and is the most passive aggresive crazy arse person I have encountered since... well ever!

Reading A Lion's Tale: Around the World in Spandex by Chris Jericho. A really good book and my favorite part is when Chris details how he was addicted to crack and alcohol and how his friends and family got him into rehab because they didn't want to lose him. He's been clean for about 12 years now.

A Clash Of Kings update:

So I just got up to Sansa getting rescued by Tyrion after being "punished" by Joffrey, the little whelp, and Asha Greyjoy is now my favorite character.

Huh, they went into the prison experiment only interested in the prisoner's changing psychology. The change in the guards was, if not unexpected, unusually interesting.

Apparently one of the prisoners was remarked upon as "suspicious" by both the arresting officer (an actual cop who performed the mock-arrests) and one the guards, for the same reason: he obeyed orders too easily.

I wrote about a fish turning into the moon.
