Dragon Maleficent from KH1 is literally the hardest boss I have ever faced in any game ever. Yes, worse than Roxas.

Really? Cause I beat her on my first try, then proceeded to get my ass kicked up and down Hollow Bastion by Riku.

I needed advice to figure out how to beat Dragon Maleficent, but beat Riku on probably my first try (might've been two, but I don't remember).

There are only two conditions that contraindicate the long game approach:

• The battle is timed
• You're fighting Demyx

i didn't think kh1 riku in HB was terribly difficult; i think it took me at most, what, 3 tries? i had already played kh2 beforehand though if that counts for anything.

Dragon Maleficent was hard, but she didn't kill me on my first try. I thank Tinkerbell + Aerora for that.

Riku I can't remember anymore for some reason. I think I lost to him at least once. This was all on Normal.

i remember dragon maleficent being annoying and dying to her but i can't remember why.

it's been like 7 years since i played that game.

So when I follow the strategy guide, I get killed over and over.

When I use Tinker Bell and go Leeroy Jenkins on her, I get it first try.

I didn't think of it because I'm used to KH2 where summons are unimpressive.

in kh1, you use every resource you have, or else you have a very bad time

the summons in kh2 aren't necessarily unimpressive, you just don't really NEED them unless you're doing a speedrun or some kind of Self-Imposed Challenge.

I never really had a problem with Maleficent Dragon. I just jumped onto her back and used Strike Raid. I also remember having a ton of difficulty with Riku the second time, but after playing 1.5 I don't really remember why as I got through it relatively painlessly.

I'm still annoyed that I only just found out you could use Gravity on Maleficent's Rock thing in the first battle with her.

How the hell did the internet never mention that in ten goddamn years.

KHII summons are hella impressive.

Or, at least, Stitch and Chicken Little are.

Have you ever seen Xaldin stunlocked by a ukelele and sweating HP orbs? It's quite a sight.

The reason I said Demyx earlier if that it is possible to defeat him without having any more water summons after the start, just by relentlessly attacking him. You have to be good at following him, though.

Valor Genie's Limit did stupid amounts of damage in the original version of the game.

Peter Pan can stunlock stuff to death like the Experiment and Saix if you just use normal combos (I think without finishers).

Dragon Maleficent was a massive pain in the ass until I realised Stop works on her due to Donald casting it. Gravity also deals good damage, but Strike Raid is perfect for when she's hit by Stop. After that it was a case of "Alright let's not be close enough for her attacks to hit" and then occassionally dying and not being able to swear because my niece was in the room.

No, the damage piles up and hits the target after Stop wears off, so it's perfect for Strike Raid or if her head's low enough and you have it, Ars Arcanum.

Wouldn't normal combos be faster than Strike Raid?

In theory yes, but Stop only works for a few seconds and she could revert and kill you with fast bite attacks at anytime.

Fun fact: Gravity deals percentual damage, and less to bosses (varying by boss), but it deals damage based on current HP. So if you Stop her, and you use Gravity several times, it'll deal damage as if she was still full health for each cast. There's a video somewhere of a guy chaining Stops and Gravities with Ether support to kill Dragon Maleficent without dealing a hit.
