Note this is ...Or So I Heard. They might take out the "reward" in the Wii Ware version.

You got some dirt on you. Here's some more!

^Not sure why they would. They didn't take out the implication that you slept with a bunny-girl in Cave Story (or the ability to steal Curly's panties), though I guess the "reward" is far more noticeable. I'm more concerned what they'll do with all the Nintendo-bashing comments that Xelpud spouts on occasion.

I don't know if I'm getting this, but if I do, I'm probably not going to watch the Let's Play of the original La Mulana by Deceased Crab, mostly to keep unspoiled to some extent, even though I've already viewed it once (unless they changed the puzzles significantly in this port; haven't been paying attention news on the game).  *

Deceased Crab... has a bit of a huge ego. Still, they did have some good points about the Wii Ware version.

I'm pretty sure that it's already been established that all the 8-bit and MSX references will be replaced with 16-bit Nintendo references, so I assume that the digs at Nintendo and others will be swapped out with fresh (read: marginally less intentionally dated) digs.

[up][up]Oh I'm aware. I was less bothered by his opinions on it and more by his reactions to anyone who liked or tried to defend the Wii version, which is usual behavior for him. One of my main reasons for getting the Wii version was the ability to play the game on the Classic Controller.

The other reason would be to support the developer, but I'm not certain (or I've forgotten) if they get the profits made from Wii Ware purchases. In any case, from what I've played the only differences between the Wii and PC versions were sound quality and script changes, which I wasn't bothered by.

[up]Ah, interesting. I wonder if they'll take more liberties with the script, like a slight lampshade about this version's changes or something similar.

Going by what I've skimmed in this thread, seems like there are a lot more add-ons to this version of La Mulana, so the problems Cave Story Wii had won't be repeated with it. I probably am going to wait a while for a guide or something to crop up though, especially if they've actually added multiple endings  *

^ I hope one of them, likely the most difficult one, involves actually sending Mother back to the sky.

Anyway, I really like how the developers are keeping fans updated on the progress.

Deceased Crab... has a bit of a huge ego.

I used to be a fan but I then stopped liking his ego.

They've changed a few things with script and gameplay, added some items, and changed the puzzles a lot. They were apparently aware of how much people had memorized the puzzle solutions, and didn't like the implication it'd make things easy for them. Hidden items are in different locations, to the point where some of them now contain traps (which I consider a bit of a dick move, but that's what you have to expect from the company).

I'm only going by a handful of gameplay videos, mind you, but they were enough to tell things were nowhere near the same.

DC is how I found out about this game. DC is not someone I follow.

The gift for Hell Temple could always be made worse by letting you, or forcing you to, wear it for the rest of the game. This is especially true now that Lemeza shows up on the inventory screen.

He isn't horrible at Lets Plays but he talks too much in his videos for my taste. I do recall him being dickish on comments

His comments are what I was talking about mostly. I don't mind his commentary and his L Ps for the most part, but he can be just as jerkish in it. In any case, I'd rather not derail this too far into just talking about him.

I've read about them changing the puzzles, which is probably why I'm going to wait until I see a guide or I'm certain I'll have enough time to thoroughly explore the game. Some of the original puzzles were already dickish to solve/discover; I'm quite afraid to see what'll they'll change to.

I'm pretty sure the puzzles won't have guide dang its from what I got from the blog.

The puzzles are going to be less absurd; the ones that sent the most people scrambling for a guide are all but certain to be changed. The ones that are too easy are likely to be changed. And they're gonna make a point of not replacing them with other impossible puzzles. The developer blog basically admitted that they're redesigning it with the knowledge that a gaming crowd less hardcore than the original target audience is going to have to be able to beat this game, or at least get somewhere in it without a guide.

They're also totally redesigning the game balance; pretty sure I read that they're making enemies a lot deadlier outside of bosses, since in the original version once you have a few life gems you're basically invincible outside of bosses.

I just hope they change the time-stopping item so that you recharge it some way besides letting the game run for three minutes. Like teleporting back to the town or something.

It's very useful because it's got the quickest attack animation.

Apparently the game still needs to be tweaked a bit.

This isn't actually that uncommon, as many games need to be submitted multiple times before release.

The "throwing knives" were what I used to finally beat that boss. Before I was using the more obvious spear, which was more direct and spammable but put me right in the path of the lasers. This time I stayed on the side and chucked throwing knives. They have the added effect of hitting the tentacles too.

They also have the added bonus of being totally useless everywhere else in the game, so you don't need to worry about how many you waste.
