I will never understand why writers especially harem writers think having the girls act like violent nut-jobs & having the MC getting beaten is funny. Cause it really is not.

Regardless they've gotten him to cry before like when the played keep away with the ring and they enjoyed it.

They weren't even aware of the real importance the ring held for Negi, and Negi's shown reaction was more of a 'child flustered and waving around for something' infantile fit than anything else. The only time in that chapter we actually see him crying streams, he's alone with Akira and facing away from her, because he doesn't want anyone to learn of Eva's ring.

It's not the same thing as the Sports Festival, when they were fully aware of what they were doing and its implications.

Besides, with the ring, it was the students who were generally shown to be jerks like Misora and Yuuna, not characters like Nodoka.

Everyone was out of character during the sportsfest, even Negi, probably the attempt to train wreck everything via giving the editors exactly what they wanted.

Before that the only Naru Punch moment was aged up Negi on a date with Asuna and put the moves on her via advice from Chamo.

People overblow that stuff though, even the Love Hina manga wasn't that bad the Anime sure but the actual Akamtsu written stuff not so much.

Ok i'm reading all this & I have even less reasons to actually get into the series now, yeesh.

To be perfectly honest...its a decent read. The art-style is nice and evolves better, it has some clever subversions and cool action scenes.

Hell even the MM arc can be entertaining.

Just...it pays to have low expectation on this one especially in regards to the ending.

The manga is great, the festival arc might be the greatest arc ever made in manga. It is just the ending is poor, last 10 or so chapters, which is standard for a lot of manga sadly.

The manga is poor since the Averruncus siblings shows up. The resolution to the MM arc is also poor because it features a long string of poorly justified asspulls and plot twists for the sake of twists that became a recurring flaw of Akamatsu's writing to this day.

However poor one may think the latter parts of the Mundus Magicus Arc are, I think there is wide agreement that it's at least considerably better than the overall disaster (with a very few specks of light) that is the Sports Festival Arc.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.

The siblings showed real promise when they were first introduced, its just the mess behind the scenes forced it to be cut extremely short and rushed to the sports fest filler while he canned the series.

Personally I felt the Mahorafest arc had great bits in it, but like MM, had a bunch of padding that derailed from the plot; I don't care about this silver haired girl that has had no role up-till now, I don't care about Yue's wangst and I certainly don't care about fucking Ayaka (Worst Girl!) and her paedophilia.

If Mahorafest were a film those would the parts I fast-forward by and I never fast-forward parts of a film.

The parts about Chao and her plan were great though.

You act like Ayaka was actually a prominent character during Mahorafest.

[up][up]I know she wasn't but still the story stops the plot for a short while to indulge the peadophilic dreams of the most annoying character in the manga,

I don't know why but blonde haired, full of themselves girls in anime tend to be really annoying, like Haruka in Mai Hime. Or Juvia in Fate, although in fairness she does make me laugh a couple of times.

But that's Ako.

No, she's the Queen of wasting our time.

Ayaka is the pathetic human being whose sole point of existing is to be a bad shotacon joke.

I don't care about her friendship with Asuna, Asuna's true best friend is Setsuna.

Haruka is also an annoying joke. Sorry man, just nothing about her is enough to make me like her. I always feel like any other character should kick her off screen whenever she arrived.

You're being way too harsh, dude. It's true Ayaka's shotacon jokes were kinda creepy, but she's far from pathetic. She's just a weird and underdeveloped side character.

Setsuna in the latter parts of Negima and Loser Guy/Girl are the pathetic and overused lame jokes.

"I don't care about the most important part of her character."

Well, yes, when you take that perspective of course you're going to think she's nothing but shotacon jokes.

I don't care about her friendship with Asuna, Asuna's true best friend is Setsuna.

Asuna's best friend is Konoka.

I think you're approaching it the wrong way. True friendships aren't as easy as saying 'this is my exclusive best friend' and then doing a ranking of sorts. Even Dragon Ball gets this right; Vegeta is Goku's closest rival/comrade in arms (being the only one who can keep up to him near the end), but Krillin is still his childhood friend and training buddy, and you can even throw Piccolo in as his first major swayed enemy-co father figure to his son-sort of advisor in battle (for all DV characters are willing to listen anyway). You can even sort of fit Bulma in as well, at least in the sense of being the one who's stuck with him the longest.

Is Superman's best friend Batman, his sort-of-rival but also the closest thing he has to a stature equal (power gulf aside) in the heroic community, or Jimmy Olsen, who is closer to his human side but also can't really relate to his superhero woes?

You are just letting your preconceived views to color your perceptions on Asuna's friendships, but Asuna is more complex than you're giving her credit for.

Haruka is the Badass Normal with an iron will to the end in a world of superpowered characters who mostly crumble down quick when things start going badly.

[up]Seriously? I find Ako way worse. Natsumi earns points for at least not getting wrapped into the worshipping of Negi's pinky-sized wee. And her Artifact is much cooler than the stupid giant syringe.

OK, allow me refrase what I meant.

Although her friendship with Asuna did have its heartwarming parts, these were not enough to save the character from the majority of her characterization.

Haruka, despite her relatively cool moment, was still 99% annoying, bossy, loudmouth with an ego that needed getting cut down.

@dRoy: Dear God Natsumi was pointless. I get your dislike of her.

but she's far from pathetic.

She had a nosebleed from being bridal carried!

Plus the whole debacle with the Pactio adds several layers of pathetic.

Especially when you remember Negi is at best an acquaintance to her.

Ako is simply boring and a waste of time. Natsumi is a boring waste of time who also comes off as a kind of selfish and emotionally manipulative of a young child who considers her a sister.
