"A Slice of Life", or "How not to Have a Normal School Year"

"I see," responded Nakajima-sensei. "But I passed the nurse's office. Kobayashi-sensei wasn't there."

Akio's eyes widened in disbelief. What? Where'd he go? Did Anno-san find him?

Hanako voice his thoughts. She hadn't cared that Kobayashi-sensei was sick, but suddenly vanishing?

"Nakajima-sensei, he wasn't even on the way to the nurse's office?" she asked.

"I would've seen him, Shimizu-san," she replied.

Kiaku told the librarian, "This is just a miscommunication, really. There is nothing going on here." He knew it was a lie, but he knew all members of his little family were to be afforded certain protections. If it looked like Jiro was going to be taken away, well, the only bugs Kiaku had on him were Assassin Bugs, which he did not want to use frivolously.

Did Kobayashi-sensei decide to go to the hospital? Is it that serious?

"I'll be taking Tanaka-san to the principle's office," said Nakajima-sensei. "It's clear something happened here."

Jiro muttered something under his breath. Akio narrowed his eyes at the bully. It didn't sound like anything nice.

Nakajima-sensei instructed Jiro to come with her. Jiro, remarkably, started to leave with her.

Maybe he's realised, thought Akio. Being an asshole is bad.

Hanako relaxed as the Librarian left with Jiro and tow. "It's about time someone punished that jerk."

Koari wasn't sure why her questions had been unanswered, but she decided to stay silent for the moment.

There were new murmurs amongst the class. Most of the students were wondering what had happened to Kobayashi-sensei.

Arisu arrived at Takahashi-sama's office, stopping in the doorway.

"Takahashi-sama!" she cried. "I... I'm in Kobayashi-sensei's class. He left, and then there was a fight and someone's been injured." She remembered the cause of the fight, and the indignity of her fall brought on another blush. "Nakajima-sensei is there now, but I don't know if the fight continued after I left."

Kiaku let something fly off of his arm and it landed on the back of the librarian's neck. If anyone looked, it appeared to be a small, red eyed, gray skinned bug with a large stinger. It stabbed the stinger into the librarian's neck, and killing venom entered almost instantly. Distasteful...

"Where do you think Kobayashi-sensei went, Akio?" asked Hanako. Her previous lack of care for the teacher had noticibly changed to concern after learning that he had not gone to the nurse's office, and was most likely no longer at Tomoe.

"I thought he was boring, Hanako," answered Akio. "I thought you didn't care that he was sick."

"I don't care if he's sick. But I don't want him to die," replied Hanako, irritated. This time, she wasn't quite irritated enough for a cross popping vein to form.

Akio turned to Koari, and said "Are you alright, Ishikawa? That asshole hit you pretty hard."

Koari turned to him briefly.

"I suffered no lasting injury that I can currently identify or feel," she responded. She turned back to what she had been looking at before. A window.

Akio scratched his head. Weird...

"I'll get there right away," replied Nurse Takahashi.

So much for an injury-free month...

"Well, that was certainly unexpected." Kiaku said, he looked a bit angered by the turn of events, but he decided to go with it and try to see if there was anything more he could do about the situation.

"That sure was quite a way to start the day" Shizuka said with a little sigh.

She was glad to see that Koari-chan was well even after such an event.

Well now is not the time to recruit anyone

The girl then turned to Akio and punched him playfully in the shoulder to catch his attention "Hey, good job protecting Koari-chan. You where pretty cool back there" she said with a wink of her left eye and a slight smile on her face.

Shizuka then turned to Yoko a hand on her hip as her smile widened a bit "And thanks for backing up what I said to the teacher"

"Thanks." replied Akio. "I can't stand Tanaka, I wasn't about to let him get away with anything."

Koari produced a book seemingly out of nowhere, sat down, and began to read, as if absoloutly nothing out of the ordinary had happened. She was either quite engrossed in it almost instantly, or had simply zoned out.

Yoko ducked her head, blushing. "Tanaka-san behaved in a manner most unbecoming. It would not have done for the situation to descend into a flurry of denials from both sides, which would undoubtedly have resulted in equal punishments for all of you."

Kawaoto laughed, and slapped her on the back. "You're all right, y'know that, Yocchan?"

O.o; ...'Yocchan'?

"Ah... thank you, Kawaoto-san."

"Call me Shizuka, we've been talking for a month already, right Yocchan?" Shizuka said with a hand on Yoko's shoulder, her smile wide and her eyes closed.

Her smile then shifted a little bit, seeming just a little bit devious and showing a little fang as she added "Besides we might start our own band together so we should get familiar with one another"

Akio raised an eyebrow. The transfer student, Sato Yoko, was very polite. It was nice, especially when you compared her to people like Jiro. A little uneeded, seeing as they were all students here, but nice.

Akio briefly heard the mention of a band from Shizuka, and decided to turn away. The school was probably sorting out what to do with their class, since Kobayashi-sensei had left without warning. Where did he go?

Hanako heard the mention of a band, and all thoughts of Kobayashi-sensei's fate were pushed from her mind. She wtook a step towards Yoko and Shizuka and said, brightly, "Did I hear you mention a band? That would be awesome!"

Oh, dear...

"I... I'm terribly sorry, Ka- Shizuka-san," Yoko winced. "My studies occupy a great deal of my time; I'm afraid I would only end up a burden to the rest of the club, unable to keep up due to limited opportunities to practice."

"Oh come on" Shizuka sat on the teacher's desk "You're not going to brush me off that easily. There's plenty of time to study regardless"

"Besides you only get to live your highschool life once. Wouldn't you rather spend your days living to the fullest and playing music instead of just studying alone?"

"I promise you, there won't ever be a dull moment, Yocchan" Shizuka said showing her brightest smile.

You can't tell her. Her self-control was adamant.

I know, she thought miserably.

And then, finally, after all the tension that had built up over the past half hour, the slightest of releases occurred inside Sato Yoko's soul, and she grinned mischeviously.

Fuck 'em.

"I might hold you to that, Shizuka-san."

Kiaku listened in on their conversations, absorbing details and information. He preferred gathering his intelligence about the newly entered students this way. Nonetheless, they would pursue him into the web, especially because he had supported Jiro Tanaka, a loathed bully.

Koari was nearly motionless. The only movement was her occasional turning of a page. Otherwise, one could've mistaken her for an extremely lifelike statue.

Akio eyed the strange girl briefly. The sheer lack of concern she had shown over being punched in the chest by someone several times larger then herself was just plain weird. I've heard some pretty strange rumors about Ishikawa, but that's just plain odd.

Hanako eagerly awaited more conversation about a band. It's the perfect way to relieve boredom!

"You mean that..." Shizuka was too surprised by this turn of events. Sure she had been trying her hardest to make it happen but still she wasn't prepared for actual victory.

Still seeing Yocchan's face leaved no doubts. The strongest enemy had been beaten... and her dream was now lot closer to coming true.

She got Sato Yoko to join her.

Shizuka had the urge to start jumping around in happiness but she contented herself with merely letting out a cry of victory.

Shizuka then turned to Hanakoka "You can bet it will be awesome. This is happening, we two" She turned to look at Yoko, her eyes shinning with barely contained energy "will build the Tomoe Gakuen Music Club"

Hanako grinned. This is just too perfect. No more boredom for me this year!

"So, when are you starting it? How open will it be?" she asked.

"I'll go talk with Student Council on the break, then I'll start putting up posters all around the school to get the rest of our members"

Hanako nodded. Maybe this school year wouldn't be so dull after all.

Koari briefly looked up at them, from her book. There stare didn't didn't seem to have any actual signifigence. At least, not outwardly.

Shizuka senses tingled at the implicit oportunity in Koari's stare.

The guitarist turned around to look at the petite classmate in the eyes, a little sideways grin on her face "You interested, Koari-chan?"
