It's to show a character is calm and contemplative.

I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.

Or that they are meditating.

Wouldn't the real trope be meditation, more than the position of meditation?

No. The literary device is to show someone sitting in Lotus position as a shorthand indicator that they are meditating.

Okay. I guess I can buy that.

BTW, once you do this split, I think you should remove the folder formatting. There aren't enough examples to really justify folders.

Sitting like that is prety much almost strictly for meditation or thinking (I have seen it where a guy sits like that so a kid could sit on his lap but that's not the trope.) The other important style of sitting is for formal occasions sitting Seiza.

We should never remove folder formatting. Three examples are enough for there to be folders. Tropes that aren't foldered early enough turn into messes.

There's nearly 25 examples of the non-levitating kind. That's plenty. A redirect like Cross Legged Mediation might be good though, for people who aren't familiar with the term. (The levitating version might want a redirect for similar reasons.)

The split off Levitating Lotus Position trope is now in YKTTW here, mostly because I think it could benefit from some discussion about its description. I edited the Lotus Position trope to reflect the split, but I did not fix wicks yet because I figured it made more sense to do that once Levitating Lotus Position was launched.

I am not very experienced with splitting tropes though. If I did something wrong here, feel free to tell me, so I can correct it and not make the same mistake in the future.

Levitating Lotus Position has now been launched and I tried to move wicks as seemed appropriate.

Looks good. I went over the wicks again and found one more for Levitating Lotus Position. I thought that there was too much Useful Note style material in the Lotus Position article, obscuring the trope. So I moved it to its own page. I think both the article and the the Note work better now they are pursuing solo careers.

I suspect Levitating Lotus Position might fit on to some more indexes than just Stock Posses.

Other than that, looks like we're done here.

Camacan,

Thanks for you help checking my work and making that Useful Notes change on the Lotus Position trope. I think that makes a good deal of sense, actually.

I looked around a bit, but the only other appropriate index that I could find was Flying Tropes. That being said, if someone else finds another good one to add Levitating Lotus Position to, feel free to do so.

Crown Description:

Previous crowner showed consensus support among those who voted to split Lotus Position into a general trope about that posture and a more specific one about levitating while in the Lotus Position.

This crowner is for voting on names for the levitating trope.
