As a major Irrational Fanboy Against Activision(tm), I heartily approve of this turn of events.
The blind man walking off the cliff is not making a leap of faith.I had the feeling something was iffy with Modern Warfare 2.
What else has Activision done dumb recently, again? I don't follow the gaming news as much as I used to.
...What the fuck?
Wow, what a douche, especially him trying to suck the fun out of game development.
He's not well liked, to put it lightly.
He...seems like a dick.
Just from reading that article, I get the impression that he's a masterful Deadpan Snarker / Troll who's sense of humor most people just don't get. That's just getting all I know about him from that article though.
That's what everyone's hoping anyway. Unfortunately...
@Claste: I don't think that's the case, considering the current state of the company reflects his statement.
... So... now Activision is the stagnant developer pushing over-priced franchise titles regardless of quality, and Electronic Arts is the one that makes quality games that everyone loves and repeatedly takes risk on bizarre niche titles. What parallel universe have we fallen into, and how do I get back?
Click your heels together three times and repeat 'the Status Quo Is God, the Status Quo Is God, the Status Quo Is God'.

^^ If Tony Hawk: RIDE is any indication, then yes. The jury's still out on Dante's Inferno, though.
I hope you get tiny bits of eggshell in all your omelettes for the rest of your life!^^^ We fell into this parallel universe around the time Activision bought out Blizzard, around the turn of the console generation. Not sure when, or if, we'll be able to escape.
The blind man walking off the cliff is not making a leap of faith.^^ When my college started plugging their game design program, they mentioned that one of the main developers hiring right out of the college was working on "This awesome game that uses an actual skateboard as the controller! It's so cool! You're like, actually moving around on it to move! The possibilities are endless!"
It was almost worth it to see literally half the room lower their heads slowly onto their desks. Two weeks later, RIDE came out and flopped miserably.
Me and Jordan Lund do a special podcast about it:
http://www.gamestooge.com/2010/03/08/vgrt-special-episode-activision-vs-infinity-ward/
Hope you enjoy.
Jonah Falcon""Activision conducted the investigation in a manner designed to maximize the inconvenience and anxiety it would cause West and Zampella," the lawsuit claims, alleging that the two were "interrogated for over six hours in a windowless conference room" and that other Infinity Ward employees were "brought…to tears" by Activision investigators."
Wow. Wooooooow. That... if they don't disprove that fast, they deserve every shred of bad publicity and court fines they're gonna get. Sounds pretty clear-cut to me.
Why does Activision suddenly suck so bad?
And can we do a people's pink slip on this Bobby Downer?
Sakamoto demands an explanation for this shit.^ It's all "Spengbab" Kotick's fault, obviously. (I don't know whether or not this is true, but public opinion of the company - at least on the Internet - seemed to have dug its way to China shortly after he came on board.)
I hope you get tiny bits of eggshell in all your omelettes for the rest of your life!this is really starting to worry this longtime gamer (starcraft warcraft 2+3 wow etc) troper what if activision pulls this shit with blizzard?
Apocalypse: Dirge Of Swans.^ You realize if they do, it will be the end of Activision.
This is bad enough publicity, going after superior game makers like Blizzard is blatantly suicidal.
Why you may ask? Well besides the millions upon millions of fans and customers across their IPs and their really good legal department, they have full rights to their series and are able to do whatever they want with them. If Activision tries to meddle and do any of their asshattery to Blizzard, they can and probably will take their publisher to court over conflict of interest (and most likely win too).

Although both Activision and Blizzard are owned by Vivandi, Blizzard's pretty much been insulated with respect to corporate structure.
SHIKI is dead.Ooookay, I'm boycotting Activision now.
EDIT: Activision stock is rising today, but it's probably more related to the fact that the company's stock has been on a slight downward trend lately, and the announcement of some new property, than to the market responding to today's news. I won't say 'short ATVI', because the stock really has nowhere to go but up at this point, but I will say that if they lose the lawsuit (Or, rather, if it looks like they will lose) to expect fun times for the CEO.

My latest liveblog.
The Kotaku article.
The court documents.
Well, it seems the founders of Infinity Ward were fired before receiving their royalites, and are now suing Activision. I'm frankly not surprised, considering Activision's recent reputation, and I'm rather inclined to side with the founders over Activision...
