Then what should we call people who do awful things in the name of social justice?

"Assholes" works for me.

Here's the thing with SJW: it isn't just people like those up in arms over James' refusal to review Ghostbusters 2016 that get that label applied to them, it's also people who are more reasonable and whose requests are more reasonable.

Like if you stand up for women's rights in general you get called an SJW. It isn't just people who see sexism or misogyny where none exists and make unfounded accusations. You could say "Bill Cosby is almost definitely guilty" and there'd be people calling you an SJW for it. Or if you believe trans people should be allowed to use the women's restroom if they identify as female, people will say you're an SJW.

Moving on, I loved the Paperboy review. Made me lol several times.

Maybe the moderates deserve the literal name of Social Justice Warrior and the extremists can be called Social Justice Murderer. Works by me.

Was anyone expecting that bit at the end?

This was really funny to watch. The skits were all related to the game and didn't take an excessive amount of time. The focus was on the gameplay, which is really hard but fun (less so for the Nerd). It zipped on by rather quickly.

[up]I was not expecting it, no, and one of the things I laughed at was how the Nerd just crashed into him and exploded (like I guess you do in the game) instead of having him actually do anything to kill the Nerd.

One last thing I'll say about the whole Ghostbusters thing for now is that I don't get why Angry Joe was able to voice his negative opinion on the movie without getting trash-talked by anyone, yet when James did it the internet lost it's shit.

Anyway, the new episode was great. Something about it felt like one of the older Nerd episodes too, which was a nice touch. Though I bet there's already a bit of backlash considering that Paper Boy is a fairly well-liked game. As someone who has actually played it before though, I never really understood the appeal, and this is coming from someone who plays older video games all the time.

It's been suspected that picking a specific target to hate on was a marketing plan to try and boost reception for the next trailer, but nothing conclusive has been proven yet (other than the new trailer doing even worse than the last). That it was James and not Joe matters little.

[up][up]I'm pretty sure that most fans will realize that James doesn't really think it's a bad game; it's just the Nerd character who hates it because of the difficulty.

Pat The NES Punk weighs in:

Him mentioning it was the first time I'd heard that Samantha Bee had gotten involved. Between this and the way she seems to be siding with Hillary over Bernie, I'm finding I like her a lot less than I used to. (To give a specific example, there was a debate where Clinton interrupted Sanders. Sanders responded by saying "Excuse me, I'm talking," while raising a finger. Bee felt that this was sexist of Bernie.)

Cancer of the brain is evident when waiting your turn is misinterpreted as sexism.

[up]I started writing "If I understand the argument correctly..." before deciding to look it up.

All right. According to one of the first hits I got, which was a CNN piece, there was this perception that him raising (or waving, or wagging, or however you want to describe it) his finger was a "shush" gesture, and "he wouldn't do that if he were talking to a man", and he was trying to silence the uppity woman like old, sexist man he is...

...which completely ignores the fact that even if that qualifies as bad manners, it's worse manners to try and cut somebody off mid-sentence, which is what she did.

So dumb. There is real sexism in the world, far too much, but that was by no stretch of the imagination an example of it.

And to bring it back to the Nerd and keep it from straying way off-topic: if Bee got outraged about that, then I guess I shouldn't be surprised that she thinks James refusing to see and review a movie with an all-female team of Ghostbusters is sexist, despite the only mention he made of the cast's gender being words to the effect of "You know what they're calling it? 'The Female Ghostbusters'. So does that mean the original is 'The Male Ghostbusters"?"

Changing the subject to something else Cinemassacre related: people have thought James' pronunciation of certain words was strange before and have said so, and he made a You Know Whats Bullshit video about it. In that video, he explained that he emphasized the first syllable of "review" because if you watch something again in order to write an article about it, you're RE-viewing it. That does make sense to me, but I don't think it makes sense when he reviews something after only seeing it once, right?

Men do interrupt women more often in conversations, as has been demonstrated by considerable research.

It's not necessarily conscious sexism in the sense of "I'm doing this because I literally despise women", but rather the result of socially-conditioned bias. Women generally are perceived more negatively for being assertive than men are, while men being assertive is seen as natural.

Trouble is that it's difficult to quantify that bias in day-to-day anecdotes so it's tough to approach the issue in a nuanced manner.

I agree with one of the previous posts that said that Paperboy was funny. I liked it as well and it reminded me a bit of the early AVGN videos. I've been seeing his videos since 2006, I can't believe it's already been 10 years since then. The first video that I saw was TMNT for the NES. He was the first "web celebrity" that I ever saw and is pretty much the reason why I sticked around Youtube and found many more Internet shows and personalities.

I knew he was going to review something related to Ghostbusters, but I was kinda hoping he'd make a video on the 70s The Ghost Busters.

As of this posting, the "Non-review" of Ghostbusters 2016 have over 2 million views.

I wonder if this is his most viewed video that doesn't use AVGN persona?

[up] Is that just one of the games on the consoles? Because there's a PC adventure game called Virtual Stupidity which is essentially an extended episode of the show with actual animation.
