The ability to have her spear change direction after being thrown sounds pretty cool.

By the way, the genderbending was central to the plot of Remix Heart; it wasn't an afterthought like some people seem to think. Mai being sent to the Academy under a false name, her search together with the other girls for a way to reverse the effects of her grimoire and her existential crisis caused by her fear that her original self was being lost and replaced by a new female self were all due to it.

In addition, Mai loses interest in women and starts liking men halfway through Remix Heart so she's not a yuri character. She is in love with a dude and the attempts of an actual lesbian to get close to her make Mai uncomfortable.

I can't really respect the latter since I don't really trust this franchise to handle said issue with sensitivity and wisdom.

Yeah I was actually thinking how Mai was actually kinda transphobic, like it was almost completely trivializing the struggles actual transgender people go through. And the potentially homophobic/biphobic implication that because Mai was girl she couldn't still be into girls anyway.

I'm just going to keep clinging to my Bi Tsubaki headcanon...

We are talking about a magical transformation that turned the entirety of Mai's body, including her brain, into that of a woman. One shouldn't equate it with gender reassignment surgery since the two are wildly different. The human brain is sexually dimorphic and there's quite a bit of scientific literature demonstrating that sexual orientation is the result of brain structure as well as that homosexuals have brains whose structure resembles those heterosexual members of the opposite sex. Therefore it would make sense that if the brain of a heterosexual male was magically transformed into that of a heterosexual female that their sexual orientation would change.

x6 Hmm... would it really be that strange. If a hetero man became a woman wouldn't he still be hetero, except for him hetero would mean being attracted to men rather than women. After all there is still a lot that we don't understand about the human body. Plus with the magic of the grimoire we don't know just how much was changed. It could be that the body was completely converted to a hetero females body with all that entails including having the brain be wired differently, and after all the mind can be considered the plaything of the body.

I'm not so sure about that. Orientation is... Well, we still really don't know what makes one straight, gay, bi, etc.

It might have something to do with the mind or something about an individual's hormones, but that's just a hypothesis. Speaking as a bisexual physical male.

The fact that this was all done with the most magical type of MAGIC EXPLANATION/HANDWAVE I can possibly think of makes this even less worth looking in to, though. It's hard to think of any logical explanation for it.

I am now back to hating Remix Shart with a burning, infernal passion.

Why? This sort of story has existed forever. Just look at The Metamorphoses by Ovid for example. Tiresias gets magically transformed into a woman, then marries a man and has children.

This is a fictional setting where magic exists, so I don't see why it ought to precisely correspond to our world. One could equally say that Blazblue is insensitive to people with dead friends or relatives in the way it trivializes death, since everyone keeps coming back to life.

That was literally over 2 millenia ago, I am a lot less tolerant of this shit happening in stories made in the present day. Like Mighty said, this shit is incredibly insensitive to real life trans and gay people, which is unforgivable for something made in this current social climate.

What chapter was it said Mai is no longer interested in women?

And if Mai remained male in spirit, you could argue that it promotes the stupid and arguably immature fantasy of men who want girl parts because they ogle other girls with no consequence, among other things

Not trying to change anyone's opinion, but I don't like reading into those kind of things. It's a silly story about genderbending is what I see.
