I think my favorite one is either Noel's or Azrael's.

But Ragna gets a special mention for being Simple, yet Awesome.

Link to azrael's?

Naoto still looks like a teenage Slayer to me. The outfit is why and I'm not sure if I understand it.

I gotta find it, later on cuz I have class now :P

Naoto's outfit is based on the uniform of the Alucard family, which Valkenhayn wears...who's already pretty similar to Slayer appearance wise; so there you go.

Yeah we all know that shooting an enemy with a big fat laser rifle was invented with Persona 4.

It's a really common trope to where seeing it as a shout out just seems silly.

You mean exceed don't you?Astrals are more akin to instant kills.

Shooting an enemy with a rifle isn't new, duh.

Impaling an enemy and THEN shooting with a giant rifle is much rarer, I think.

Also yeah I meant Exceed.

Since someone had to do it, this post from Chris X on the GuiltyGear thread (Reposted here as well for convenience):

"So... uh... does any of you guys ever watch my videos about ASW characters? Where my moniker Oddball Gamer comes from and Handsome Rob nearly lynched me for it?

Well, uh, here are the videos for you to enjoy (the first video has undergone a remaster for better audio compared to the past). Leave a comment or two if you have account there, maybe comparing who's your favorite ASW characters or commenting my choices. (You can also find my channel over there. Still small, but will grow outside ASW as well!)

Share this to the sister topic out there in Blaz Blue topic."

Makes me hate Pqube. Love how after that vague "THIS YEAR" shit we haven't heard another fucking peep about the EU release. How fucking nice of them. Wish I had the money to import now.

You may as well just import it at this point, rather than a million years.

So currently, I am watching through Alter Memory with a contact. He is not familiar with the series, while I of course am, to see if it can hold up with both newcomers and vets.

Two episodes in... NOOOOOOOO. NOPE.

This series moves too bloody fast. It chops away so much of the little moments that build up the characters, going into the depths, and more importantly, explaining who they are and what they do, that they all get reduced to hollow shells. And yeah, I know it's adapting Calamity Trigger in two episodes... But that's the problem! It's adapting Calamity Trigger in two episodes, and removes all the dense context and worldbuilding that allows people to understand it!

All the dramatic moments, like Noel being a Murakumo, Ragna and Nu being the source of the Black Beast, and Noel being connected to Saya, happen so quickly, and are so lacking in fanfare or drama, It strips every bit of meaning from them.

My partner was constantly confused and baffled the entire time, and just became apathetic to every single character and what they were doing. So that answers the issue of newcomers getting into it. Also, Awakening the Chaos does not properly work without the choir voice.

Hahh... what a goddamn waste of budget that anime was. When I wrote my DMOS entry for that series, I tried to explain why newcomers would be enraged by the moment, as well as why vets wouldn't like it, either. And that was the Japanese version; I have no intention of watching the dub, as actions speak louder than words here. One game of BlazBlue simply cannot be adapted in twelve episodes, let alone two. If people are first exposed to the series through the anime, I pity them dearly.

CT can, conceivably, be adapted into a single cour provided they go with the Reconstruction version of the events. CS would definitely need 2-cours to do it justice, and lets not even get started on CP.

You'd need a lot of episodes to make a coherent Blazblue anime; you could theoretically do CS in 12 episodes and not lose much, you'd just have to sprinkle bits and pieces here for the rest of the cast's story so their larger roles make sense. Lemme see if I can do a decent plot breakdown of a two cour series for CT and CS

  • Episode 1: Flashback to Terumi burning down the Church, but only showing portions of it to preserve the twist. Episode focuses on Ragna's exploits leading to Kagutsuchi where he fights Nu and falls into the cauldron with her. Ending reveals time loops.

  • Episode 2: Flashback to Ibukido getting nuked and Noel survivng. Episode focuses on Noel; Jin discovering Ragna's alive anx in Kagutsuchi and going AWOL. Episode establishes Bang's relationship with Jin and Noel and Carl's brief past.

  • Episode 3: Ragna meets Tao in Kagutsuchi and treats her to food. Ragna's identity gets discovered, Ragna & Tao tag team the restaurant and book it to Tao's village. Ragna keeps it moving underground to avoid being detected, episode ends with him meeting Arakune.

  • Episode 4: Back to Noel again. Meets Litchi and Tager in search of Ragna, gets led to Kaka Village. However, the Kaka's protect lead Noel astray to protect Ragna, while Litchi goes after to stop Ragna from killing Arakune. Episode ends with Ragna about to land the killing blow on Kune.

  • Episode 5: Litchi stops Ragna from killing Arakune and he escapes. Brief flashback of Litchi and Lotte. Ragna moves on. Jin arrives at the Kagutsuchi NOL HQ and notes its completely empty. Ominous shot of Hazama to end.

  • Episode 6: Ragna makes it to the surface and meets Valkenhayn, Rachel shows up to whisk Ragna away and "test" his resolve. He passes, she teleports him to the front of the NOL HQ and he proceeds. Rachel watches as Noel shortly comes onto the scene and follows after Ragna & Jin.

  • Episode 7: ANOTHER flashback, this time it shows more of the Church getting burned down. Specifically that spoils Ragna & Jin are brothers and that Noel may or may not be Saya. Ragna finds Jin, they fight, Ragna bodies Jin and keeps it moving below to meet Hakumen.

  • Episode 8: Noel & Hazama find Jin badly injured after his fight with Ragna, and Noel goes on below to find him. Ragna is scared shitless of Hakumen, but doesn't understand why. He tries to fight him, but gets bodied. Kokonoe intervenes Hakumen is like "NOPE", Ragna activates Blazblue and prepares to engage Hakumen. Meanwhile, Noel finds Nu's cauldron.

  • Episode 9: Noel & Nu do their freaky synchronization shit, with flashes of Hakumen and Ragna's fight. Ragna is shown to ultimately to win and rushes ahead because he felt Nu awakening. Tager finds Hakumen and brings him to Kokonoe. Nu and Noel fight and the episode ends with Ragna doing his Big Damn Heroes moment.

  • Episode 10: Ragna fights Nu, but can't touch her due to his fight with Jin & Hakumen. Episode expands on Ragna's rampages and his enjoyment of the destruction he caused, with Nu tempting him. Nu nearly merges with Ragna, but Noel saves him. Episode ends with Hazama delighted.

  • Episode 11: Noel falls asleep after her Anger Born of Worry moment and Rachel shows up to play Ms. Exposition. She leaves briefly to deal with Takemikazuchi, Noel wakes up and Terumi does his shit to resurrect himself.

  • Episode 12: Full church flashback reveals Terumi did everything. Ragna goes on a rampage against Terumi, but the latter just toys with him. Terumi escapes and Rachel goes off to deal with Takamagahara. Ragna & Noel leave to the surface, and the episode ends with Hazama giving Tsubaki her orders to kill Jin & Noel.

Yea...that seems to work for CT, what do you guys think? I might Continuum Shift tomorrow.

There's so much occ garbage in Alter Memory, I'm surprised they even allowed the script. iirc Asami Imai was notably upset by what they did to her character, which makes it even more distressing.

Also don't even talk to me about that Makoto torture scene, or Tsubaki apparently attempting suicide, that was weird.

Also I'm still adamant that Jin & Tsubaki's characters got shit on the most. Like goddamn that's strike two for Jin, I'm close to making jokes about him being an abusive shoujo boyfriend and just washing my hands of Jin/Tsubaki completely (I know the anime is not canon, but he already treats her questionably in some canon parts).

[up]Sounds good, personally I think if they properly adapted the CS novels, we could've had a decent anime.

[up]That's the reason I didn't watch Alter Memory when it first came out. Now i'm watching it for... Research and amusement lets say. As it stands, Kill La Kill is a far better Blaz Blue Anime, and a vaguely okay Metal Gear Rising Revengeance Anime.

Wait a minute... Ragna has one semi working eye, and an artificial hand... He's been shat upon by the world... Oh my god... He just needs a beard and for his ideals to be crushed, and he'll become Big Boss and found Azure Heaven!

The result of Altering one's Memory to avoid something traumatic. Like, say, a shitty ass adaptation of a series that despite it's multiple faults, deserves better.

Also, show, shoving the rest of the first game into the beginning of the third episode is a REALLY STUPID way to give them dramatic weight.
