So it's true after all. This is really good news, at least for me. Pikmin was actually the first Gamecube game I've ever bought, so this makes me extremely excited. I hope that it makes good use of the wii controls.

I am quite happy! Though I feel like we have this topic elsewhere...

I stand by wanting to control Breadbugs. :P

I expect they'll find a way to tone down Purple Pikmin. They're freaking broken. White Pikmin will probably be toned up too, so that they won't have to rely on kamikaze attacks to do anything decent to enemies, which would make them plausible for a No Casualties Run.

Charge! Hey, chat room people, quit being trolls. Your "jokes" weren't funny the first time, and you expect them to be funny on a site with an interesting concept?

I do hope that using the Gamecube controller will be an option. I liked using it.

Anyone who assigns themselves loads of character tropes is someone to be worried about.

On the other hand, if you're not playing No Casualties, than White Pikmin are equally broken. Also, I always keep some around for their speedy item fetchin' skills.

Is there anything left to do with Pikmin at this point?

I don't see it... sorry. Pikmin 2 eliminated almost everything that people complained about in the first one and put in multiplayer.

Sure another guy could get lost on the planet, some Chaos Architecture gets put into effect and new game! But is it worth it?

Thus far, there's only been gameplay during the daytime. The Distant Planet at night is implied to be packed with so many predators that Olimar couldn't possibly survive, so we've never had the opportunity to travel the planet after dark yet. I think this sequel will delve into the nightlife of the Distant Planet. There'd probably be a lot more predators out and about, all of them fully alert. They could introduce a kind of Pikmin that is able to survive at night (and I have a feeling that only that kind will be usable at that time). They could even have some collectables be obtainable only at certain times of the day.

There's a lot the developers could do if they included night-time gameplay.

Not to mention, the biology of Planet Pik is stuffed full of weird creatures. Imagine being able to take control of more of them?

My longstanding idea for the plot of this game would be for Olimar's company to set up "residence domes" on Planet Pik where it trains and raises all kinds of species. In the game, you could attempt to capture them, and use their abilities either to boost your Pikmin or possibly on the field. For example, raising Honeywhisps for an easy supply of nectar.

I could see the third game taking a Darker and Edgier twist. Olimar's two trips to the Distant Planet have raised awareness about the existence of the many resources to be found on it. Some corrupt company, possibly the All Devouring Black Hole Loan Sharks, interested in obtaining these resources would set up base there and begin industrializing the planet. Lands that were once lush and teeming with life will now be arid, polluted areas with mutated versions of the planet's creatures. The corrupt company eventually gains interest in utilizing the planet's predators as bio-weapons, and begins conducting experiments on them, creating mutations, chimeras, and cyborgs (one of the bosses I have in mind is a cyborg-version of the Emperor Bulblax).

Olimar hears about this company's activities, and knows that they must be stopped. Once, the Pikmin saved Olimar in his time of need. Now it's his turn to save them.

Freezair, your idea would be sweet too. You could set up Bulborbs as guard dogs to your base, have Breadbugs assist you in obtaining items... And multiplayer mode would be a lot more interesting too, with each player trying to build up a base while destroying the other. I could see the Smokey Progg being a super-rare multiplayer-only creature you can get that would go straight to your opponent's base and reek havoc on your opponent's Pikmin.

^ Actually, I've got a slightly different idea for that one: The President of Hocotate Freight sets up a small colony on the Pikmin world, with Olimar and Louie doing missions for the company and taking missions from the President and his lackeys. A few missions in, however, the President leaves and the colony comes under new management.

The new boss wants to keep all of the wealth Olimar and Louie are getting, so he keeps some of what Olimar earns himself and lies about it. Soon, he begins exploiting the native wildlife, then starts using more and more pollution-causing machines in an attempt to cut costs. Olimar and Louie become increasingly concerned, but the last straw comes when they find out that the company has been developing prototype bioweapons in a pre-emptive attempt to eliminate any and all competition. Olimar and Louie rebel and attempt to sabotage the company's operation, and the boss responds by turning his bioweapons on Olimar and Louie.

...You know, that sounded a bit like the plot to Avatar minus the space elves.

^^ Oh man, I'm already seeing an awesome, almost Star Craft-esque multiplayer here in my head. I am salivating.

Whatever they do, an easier way of getting purple and white pikmin in larger numbers would be nice. Going underground over and over again just doesn't seem worth it, especially to get the pikmin singing the theme song...

As I type this I have a sword in one hand and a gun in the other.

^ Definitely.

Also I thought I heard somewhere that one of Olimar's kids might come with him on the next trip.

Bumping to keep the anticipation up.

I really want to see this game. I really like trilogies, especially in video games. And I loved all the things to collect in the second: the treasures, the creatures, the ship's and the captains' notes for both, and of course the title creatures.

Four player split screen would be really cool too (despite me not having too more Wiimotes...).

I suppose those would be good additions though.

At least we know it's out there.

Hmmm... If new colors of Pikmin get introduced, what might they be and what would their special traits be...?

If we do get to see the Bulbmin outside of their Bulborb bodies, I bet whatever color they are, they have long, spiny things on their arms and legs—as described in the Piklopedia. Maybe a species with a tail, too.

Parasitic Pikmin sound evil...kinda like the Mushroom Pikmin from the first game.

That sounds like a good plot point though? Rogue Pikmin...maybe it could have some more of those Pikmin battles like the two-player had.
