Read, sign, contact your local Senator (if you live in the US), spread the word, make as much waves and noise as you can.

We can win this.

Sorry, but it's against my principles to click on links to Sankaku Complex, Fox News, or Daily Kos.

Currently taking a break from the site. See my user page for more information.

Daily Kos is about as objective as the Daily Mail in the UK aka completely untrustworthy to report the fact that water is wet.

Agreed. Any website that has an promo for a book called "American Taliban" on the side does not interest me.

I honestly wouldn't know, since I don't live in the US, so sorry about that little faux pas.

I wonder what would happen if youtube was censored. Mass riots maybe?

This bill must not pass, it would mark the transition of the USA into a real police state. There is a similar act of parliament in the works over here. Political censorship masquerading as copyright law.

You could bet your ass the proponents and legislators responsible for the passage of such thing would never see the light of day again politically.

If the move were expanded to places like here and 4Chan, they would never see the light of day again literally. (Somebody most likely from 4Chan would go way too far.)

Why would anyone want to censor TV tropes?

You can bet I would turn very violent IRL if anyone took down this beloved site. >_<

One other thread we've had

longer thread that has more information on it.

As I pointed out in the second thread, if you are really concerned about this, bookmark this page to keep up with its progress. Signing e-petitions and wringing your hands won't do a damn thing.

The short version is that it's in committee, it has been in commmittee since the 20th of Setember, and there's no indication that it's ever going to get out of committee.

[down] Link fixed, thanks.

Sorry, Madrugada. I didn't realise we already had a thread on this. Thanks a lot for that!

There is a chance as Maddy pointed out it will die a crib death in committee because it is highly unpopular with the masses.

Personally, I think we should fight the crap out of this thing until it makes disco look alive and kicking by comparison.

Odds are, it's not a priority for the lame-duck Congress before the new year (Obama/Democrats will want to pass stuff that's more important for them) and probably not a priority for the Republican congress in the new session (it doesn't stick it to the Dems). Besides, it'll be a miracle if a damn thing passes and gets signed in the next 2 years. A Republican house of representatives will likely spend the time putting Take That! bills before the Senate, which will fail to get past the filibuster cut-off for any of them. If anything does pass, then it has to survive Presidential veto, and odds are there'll be enough ugly riders attached to any such bill that Obama won't do it.

A brighter future for a darker age.

ACTA was more worrisome by comparison due it to is highly secretive nature but it turns out no one wants to be as restrictive about the whole issue as the U.S. and some have even backed out. The thing basically got watered down because of how much abuse potential it had.

I just pictured the population of Tv Tropes protesting that. It's a ton of people wearing lampshades and stringing a bunch of trope names together.
