Quickie Questions

Go To

This thread is for quick questions. A "quick question" is a question which has a relatively quick, generally factual answer; a question which is not likely to inspire an extended discussion.

e.g.

Quick Question: How tall is an average ten-year-old boy?
Not a Quick Question: Why are Americans obsessed with guns?

Quick Question: Why is ALS sometimes called Lou Gehrig's Disease? Who was Lou Gehrig?
Not a Quick Question: In Alan Dean Foster's Thranx Commonwealth series, is Pip a Mary Sue?

Get the idea?

We don't really add redirects just for the hell of it, though.

Do you know how the song that plays when Adam the Black hunter from All This and Rabbit Stew runs is called? Because I find it catchy but Looney Tunes wiki unfortunately doesn't says its title.

Also, do we have coven for zoo enthusiasts?

Also, is there's a trope for flying birds that aren't capable of flight in fiction (like Hans from The Penguins of Madagascar)?

[up]As far as I know, no. If it’s representing a trope or Administrivia than maybe, but not regular fanart. But it has to be yours and/or ask permission.

Why Frankie the pigeon was called a John Travolta Pigeon on the show YMMV page? The Madagascar wiki doesn't say anything about him being John Travolta expy, plus episode that is mentioned doesn't has a Pulp Fiction reference (but it could be because I watched a Polish dub which gives Frankie "cool" (pol; "luzacki") voice). Could someone explain this to me?

The question of "why does the TVT page say this" can be answered my sending a message to the troper who made the entry, but it looks like the one who did in this case is inactive (hasn't edited since 2012).

Is there a generally accepted term for people who live in the Arctic since “Eskimo” is frowned upon & “Inuit” only refers to people of the Canadian Arctic?

Peace is the only battle worth waging.

[up] "Indigenous" or "First Nations" are the most generally used words to describe the original peoples of the Canadian Arctic and below. That’s only for as a whole. Otherwise, they’re referred to by their group (like Cree, Innu, Dene, and many more).

From Wikipedia's article on "Eskimo" (bolding mine):

Eskimo (/ˈɛskɪmoʊ/) is an exonym that refers to two closely related Indigenous peoples: Inuit (including the Alaska Native Iñupiat, the Canadian Inuit, and the Greenlandic Inuit) and the Yupik (or Yuit) of eastern Siberia and Alaska.

There's also the term Alaska Natives.

It's considered rude (due to historical lumping of all "indians" into a single culture when they were actually very diverse) to treat them as a single group, but if you need to refer to them collectively, "arctic indigenous peoples" is a term that would work.

If Wikipedia says that a movie's screenplay is criticized, what exactly does it mean by that?

Is there some rule that publishers won't publish a book with uncensored profanity in the title? Because the amount of self-help books I see at bookstores with pr*fanity c💥nsored out in someway is way too high for it to just be a trend.
