Thank you.
Also, wow, I didn't think we could make Maoist China any worse, but damn dude.
I am now known as Flyboy. Not sure whether to have it be "Some books were meant to be burned" or "Some books just get angry when you burn them", though.
The second one is funnier, but not sure if you want that context.
Forget the tropes until after you're done.I've decided to write a prequel to my very first Na No Wri Mo story, set in the fictional world of Lunaria/Solaria. (Lunaria is a world parallel to Solaria that only has a moon for light, while Solaria has regular sunrise/sets).
I'm going ten years before my first story that starred Mark Argent, writing about his father, Nathaniel Argent back when he was a Colonel Badass fighting a war to defend his homeland from Sentria's land-grubbing neighbor, the Nerasah Empire.
I'll show in-depth about the war that was only a history reference in my first novel, as well as explore the relationships between Nathaniel, his family, his comrades, and a special partnership he has with an imp named Nisha.
(Nisha is from Lunaria. Solaria and Lunaria were once one world, but were separated when a great war was fought generations ago. The only way they connect now is a special bond between a Lunarian creature and a Solarian human: The bond of Familiar and Magician. Creatures teach humans magic, while humans give the creatures knowledge about machines and technology.)
Even when your hope is gone, move along, move along just to make it throughFigured out my plot!
Four teenagers, two soldiers, and two scientists are trapped in a clandestine military facility and must find their way out before the...thing in the basement kills them all. There may or may not still be velociraptors involved.
He's like fire and ice and rage. He's ancient and forever. He burns at the centre of time. Rory punched him in the face.I'm winging it!
I'm preparing my story for Na No Wri Mo a lot recently. I've worked mostly on the characters and setting, but for the plot I'll just be winging it. As a hint, this story was mostly inspired by reading the Superior Species page. At the risk of overusing an already-overused term, I'm aiming for a deconstruction of the whole concept. My name is Lupus753.
"What's out there? What's waiting for me?"I'll be doing another take on Cyrano De Bergerac.
The last battle's curtains will open on stage!Mine's based on some characters I've had kicking around for a while. The characters existed first, but I'm finally writing the plot for them! Those who read my entry in the Fifth TV Tropes Writing Contest will recognize them, as it's the wizard brothers (but in a completely different plot).
Plot: Two nations have long been, if not at war, at least full of animosity towards each other. In a lull in the anger, the king of one nation presents a gift to a powerful senator of the other. The problem: The "gift" was the king's son as a slave. While the senator is willing to accept the slave (and treat him well), his daughter and the slave-prince don't agree. They run off together, causing the tension between the two nations to erupt into a full-blown war. Ooops.
Many years later, the Senator, now disgraced and destitute, wanders into the forest of The Fair Folk hoping they will take him and help him to die a peaceful death. Instead, he's rescued by a boy claiming to be his grandson, and he discovers that his daughter and the slave-prince have since married and started a very unusual family—they have fifteen sons who are all part monster in some fashion. The sons, upon learning what have become of the two nations, realize that they represent all three nations: The two warring nations and the realm of The Fair Folk. Thus, they believe it is their destiny to reunite the two kingdoms and stop the war.
Of course, it won't be as simple as that, and when you've Jumped at the Call, your enthusiasm is bound to get you...
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaI keep changing my mind. Every day I want to write Something Completely Different than the day before.
With only 5 days left to prepare I'm entering panic mode here.
@ Freezair: I love your story concept, it sounds interesting how it has the Senator as the main character instead of the eloping lovers, as well as the Fair Folk to add in an element of mystery! It sounds like something I'd read. <3
Even when your hope is gone, move along, move along just to make it throughIt's kind of a Three Lines, Some Waiting dealie. The brothers split off into two groups, each group tackling a different kingdom, while the senator, his daughter, and his son-in-law form a third group. Which is a heck of a lot for 60,000 words (I prefer aiming for 60k since it's more natural for me to write 2,000 words in a sitting than 1,667-odd), but I figure, give 'em 30k words each with some overlap. It's doable.
I'll probably be posting it to Deviant Art, so if you want to follow me there (name Freezair)...
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaSince I've planned out the entirety of my novel The Fool's Journey and haven't even written out all of the first chapter, I'm going to restart it from scratch for Na No Wri Mo. There are twenty-two chapters planned in all (each representing one of the twenty-two Major Arcana), so I figured it would be perfect, 'cause I could do about a chapter a day. Mm, convenience.
Bleh. Maybe I should just draw a story idea from a hat. Have a concept raffle.
That actually sounds pretty interesting...
I'm going for a cosmic horror story set during the Cultural Revolution, or at least a fictional event exactly like it.
