Level editor included? Interesting.

I really hope there's mod support, if for no other reason than to add in some heavy metal and maaaaybe give us some old-school sound effects.

Could be good, though; I'm keeping my eye on it.

Holy fuck, this shit makes Hatred look like Hello Kitty.

Still, ya know it seems like it doing everything I said I hoped the new Doom wouldn't do (tl;dr it's a Spiritual Successor to Brutal Doom, not the original Doom, which I didn't want tbh) though I'll admit the Little Big Phobos shit looks pretty neat.

[up]It doesn't help several fans just keep going "Brutal Doom is what Doom should be like, it's the superior version!"

The soundtrack for this one doesn't sound too bad either, but it better have some guitars riffing.

As long as it stays as far away from Brutal Doom as possible. I'd probably want as little to do as I can with something made by someone who's quite unpleasant.

SgtMarkIV's douchiness aside, BD is a fun wad Demonsteele is way better though, and I like that Doom IV is taking a few elements from it.

So aside from it being shoved down every one's throats, what exactly are the problems with Brutal Doom? Even John Carmack himself said it was good.

They're trimming down the fatalities to reasonable limits so they don't slow down the action with overlong finishers. That's good.

Also no wall rebound damage either. Also good.

[up][up] As has been said above, for many it's too much a departure from the original formula - DOOM never was a twitch shooter; while fast-paced, it was not Serious Sam levels of mindless run-and-gun.

I really don't know why so many people seem to dislike the gameplay shown in the trailers. For me, personally, it's perfect. I've been wishing for an FPS this fast-paced and action-packed for a decade now. Every other shooter in the past 8 years or so has been too slow-paced and favoring "tactical" gameplay over anything frantic.

What I'm wondering is, what is it that those people want from Doom? Because last time I checked, not that many people liked the slower and more horror-themed approach than Doom 3 took. I don't know, but for me, like I said it's everything I ever wanted. Maybe I'd like a little less focus on execution moves, but otherwise I love it.

It's not even that fast-paced. Brutal DOOM is fast - hell, DOOM³ was actually faster than this. The new game here is looking rather methodical by comparison; there's a pulsating rhythm to the action that is closer to the 90s originals, and even those were a bit faster.

...Really?

You should check out the Shadow Warrior remake (or its upcoming sequel which some say is out-Dooming Doom 4), Rise of the Triad remake, Serious Sam 3, Titanfall, even Call of Duty Advanced Warfare for crying out loud.

That's just off the top of my head. Most FPS games these days are moving towards greater mobility and faster pacing.

[up] I guess I'm talking more about mainstream AAA releases, because I've actually played all those games you listed. Yes, FPS games are moving towards faster gameplay, but except for maybe Sam 3 (which was an indie release) they're still not as satisfying as games from the old days.

It's like the developers are moving towards old-school gameplay, but are still too scared to go all the way and so they keep falling back on these "modern military shooter" features because they don't want the ever-desired Call of Duty audience to pass on their game. Most of them still have health regeneration, sprinting that disables your weapon, iron sights, and biggest of all, highly linear level design. Although there's been a lot of good stuff coming out recently, there's still something missing in my opinion.

Call me overhyped if ya want, but the reason I'm happy for Doom 4 is because I believe it will be the final push the game industry needs to finally bring these types of games back into the limelight for all those who are tired of the MMS mechanics appearing in every other game. I might be wrong of course, but at least it'll be a huge step in the right direction, even if the game isn't as fast as it could've been.

[up]Multiplayer looks a lot like Quake III.

Anyway, I got accepted into the closed alpha test coming this weekend! grin There's a confidentiality agreement though, so I can't really go into details on my experience with it unfortunately...

Somehow you know that the time is right.

A lot slower than Quake III, though. The widescreen aspect and floaty movement actually does make it feel remarkably like a true DOOM game, but still moreso Brutal DOOM than classic DOOM.

You should put an umlaut over the u in Brutal, so you can call it "Breeyootull DOOM" like Yahtzee.

[up]It's is practically one though. It's not just that there's no strafejumping or advanced movement of ANY kind (I mean shit Halo 5 and the last two Co D game shave had more interesting movement), there's a two weapon limit + floaty jumping invite the Halo comparisons.

As a Q 3 A fan I knew going right off the bat that there was no way in hell id was gonna risk making another highly technical comp only shooter, but even then this looks wholey disappointing overall.

This looks more like a mix between Unreal Tournament, Quake 3 Arena and Brutal Doom, I see no similarities with Halo here

[up] Stomping on demons' heads to make them go splat, ripping off a demon's fang and then using said fang to pull an Eye Scream attack on that same demon whose fang you just tore off and then doing a different Eye Scream attack at a different demon (punching his eye out). 0__0

I won't be touching this game with a ten-foot pole, but damn. Comic!Doomguy would be proud....up until the last few seconds, that is.

Also, that music was tight. Tell me that wasn't something they made just for the trailer and there's an extended version out there.
