And then the Random Number God goes and makes it up to me.

In one run, I found:

Phaseshift Boots
Phaseshift Armor
Three Red Armors
Plasma Shotgun
Missile Launcher
Assault Rifle

What the hell?

I think I've discovered Call Of DooM:

http://members.shaw.ca/vaecrius/hd/

It's...Interesting. And amazingly frustrating.

Part of me likes Mutiny more, but this is...Interesting

Probably Hella fun in co-op, though.

Well, i finally got around to grabbing all those Doo M games on steam. All of them.

And now, thanks to your INCESSANT PRATTLING i have more than a few WA Ds to download.

I HOPE YOUR HAPPY.

Also strife is teh awesomesauce. I got lost in the sewer though. Never made it out. I hate videogame sewers.

Man, playing this game straight off steam is weird. It's amazing what a few cleaned up textures and some Dummied Out features from the game (A secret is revealed! You picked up a medkit that you really need!) can do for it. Thank you, Zdoom.

I also seem incable of playing on anything less than ultra violence difficulty. A decade of playing the game on and off will do that to a guy, i guess.

EDIT: Holy crap, i don't know whether it was in the game originally or if it's a Zdoom or i don't even know but when i booted up Hexen for some blessed reason my Iron Maiden music i have on my computer started playing. Ripping apart ettins with my bare hands while The Number Of The Beast was playing was just soooooo freaking awesome.

... And it's still doing it! Music cacks out once i leave the hub area though every level has it's own song does anyone know anything about this!?

Maybe you left a CD in the drive. Happens to me when I play Quake.

Dammit, that's exactly what happened. *Hasn't opened CD drive in a month*

Oh well. Now i can switch out different C Ds to my liking.

That happens? That's awesome.

Anyone else tried Shooting Monsters With Guns? It doesn't change too much, and it manages to be very cool.

Oooooh, Shooting Monsters With Guns is playable now? *downloads*

...*also downloads the Modern Warfare 2 mod*

Holy catfish. This beats the pants off of Hideous Destructor.

It's more of a merger of tactical shooter and Doo M than Hideous Destructor was. The perks are a nice help. Also, it strikes an acceptable balance between Doo M's Hyperspace Arsenal and limited carrying capacity (you can only carry a certain number of each type of weapon, meaning that while you can be armed out the gills you can't carry everything).

Also, Hideous Destructor didn't have scenery corpses randomly coming to life when I wasn't looking. This shit is intense. Thankfully, the health and regeneration system is far more forgiving than the one in Hideous Destructor.

It's still hard, though. How hard? The easiest setting is called...Er...Hard.

Where does one get some of these mods? Notably I couldn't find an easy link to TheCraftyTitan's Doom Hack with a quick Google search.

As well, what does one need to play these? I do have Doom and Doom 2 on CD, but it's rather old. Is that all you need? Or is a later version of the game preferred?

Don't take life too seriously. It's only a temporary situation.

Depends on the level. Mostly likely you'll need a source port, probably either Z Doo M (or a variant thereof) or Pr Boo M (or a variant thereof).

All ye need do is bring the Doo M or Doo M II/Final Doo M IWADs into the same folder as the port executable, then either doubleclick the executable (for the stock levels) or click-and-drag a WAD over the executable to launch the WAD (this should work with Z Doo M and Pr Boom, other source ports may have different ways of launching external files).

This should be the link for the DooM Hack.

If you want to run Doo M in as oldschool a fashion as possible, try the Chocolate Doom source port.

Gah, Batman Doom, why are you not working!? Zdoom is supposed to make everything work! EVERYTHING!

Ayways, as someone who is experienceing the phenomenon of WA Ds for the first time i am experiencing quite possibly the world's biggest Archive Panic. Seriously. HOW many are there? How many are actually good? It's impossible to tell. I started with doomworld's "100 best WA Ds of all time" and then realized that that particular award ceremony was posted seven years ago i mean JESUS.

Odd. I've been using Skulltag for this time. Would people say that Z Doom is better?

@Shirow: Try using Pr Boom for Batman Doom. Batman Doom uses Dehacked work rather than Z Doom-specific script coding, so Z Doom might wonk things that would normally work right. As for which ones are good...Well, the Cacowards are a good start.

There's also a glut of low-quality 1993-1994 WA Ds that were made back in the day, when the power to code new levels was new and there were lots of inexperienced amateurs still learning the ropes.

Eth Zee: Depends. Really, they're two different projects that happen to be based on the same core code. Apples and oranges. So really it's a thing of personal preference, or possibly file compatability.

Is Pr Boom different from Boom? Because i tried Boom and it scared the living crap out of me. The unrelenting tides of hell's demonic armies fueled by the souls of my suffering comrades i can handle, but a DOS prompt will send me screaming away in terror. Zdoom is much better. Drag WAD onto Zdoom shortcut. Select Doom 2. Enjoy.

Yes. Pr Boom is more or less Boom for modern O Ses, with other goodies as well.

Also, drag-and-drop works just as well with Pr Boom as Zdoom. (Just make sure you're usin' the right engine for the right WAD, of course.)

I grabbed Doomsday (smooth textures yay) and started playing Neodoom on it. I really like it. Apparently the monsters become ridiculously durable later on though.

Hey, i need to know if anyone else does this: Whenever my character dodges an imp's fireball or Hell knights plasma goo or whatever, i ALWAYS dodge to the side i'm sidestepping IRL. Like, i'm dodging and weaving while i sit at the computer desk. Is this something anyone else has done or witnessed? This is the ONLY game i've ever done something like this too, and i'm not sure if it's because i've been playing it for so long or because it's just that intense.

I do that sometimes. ^_^;

Only with FPSes, though, and usually only the really intense ones. Like Doom, sometimes.

I also find myself moving around in my chair to dodge as well (including ducking if something is flying over my character's head), both in Doom and other games. Similarly, when playing Thief I sometimes hold my breath and am very, very quiet when I hear but can't see enemies (of course, this is actually not a bad idea considering how important sound is in that series).

I hold my breath without realizing until i exhale too, but only when i'm "In the zone"... You know, that zen-like state you reach where your reflexes shoot through the roof and you can suddenly pull off a 79 hit combo you didn't even realize existed or weave through a maze of bullets in a shoot'em up.

Re: Parkour mod.

I've started playing through Doom2 with it; it's stupid fun. I'm surprised by how much opportunity for kick-jumping and wallclimbing there is in this game.

The game still retains some challenge, despite the increased power of the weapons. The guns all need reloading; so you can't go on a shotgun frenzy. I learned this the hard way, after launching into an attack only to have the shotgun click uselessly. I felt a fool, also dead.

Download link.
