When I proposed The Egregious Trope-Man, I was being cute with the name, but let's face it: that meme is played out and it was too in-jokey anyway. In the YKTTW, someone suggested Amazing Adjectives, which sounds good, but I'm open to suggestions. If we want to keep it sounding like a member of the TV Tropes Superhero Team, fine, but let's kill the "egregious" meme and get rid of the hyphen while we're at it.

P.S. I wasn't registered at the time I proposed it, so don't be surprised if you look at the YKTTW and see it by an Unknown Troper.

I apologize for being so late to see this topic, but I made a single proposition rename crowner here. I am not quite sure how crowners work with Ptitles though so I would appreciate if someone who does know would like to help fix any errors I may have made there.

Hang on a second! I don't see the problem with this name - yes, the "egregious" meme is not funny (it never was), but that doesn't mean it automatically needs to be renamed. Is there any misuse or confusion over this name? There has to be a better reason then simply "I don't like it" for a rename.

It looks like a TV Tropes in-joke instead of a legitimate trope.

I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.

"Trope" as a placeholder is something we're not supposed to do anymore. Also, it's not as if it has any actual inbounds or anything.

Well, if the page has other problems, that's good enough for me.

For a new name, perhaps The Adjectival Superhero? A little too close to The Adjectival Man, perhaps, but it gets the trope across fine.

[up]That's even closer to The Adjectival Man, plus not all examples of this trope are Something People - for instance, The Mighty Thor and The Incredible Hulk.

I second The Adjectival Superhero, or something with a shorter middle word.

What was the deal with "egregious," anyhow? Was the word being misused a lot at one point? Nowadays when I see it, the word is almost invariably used correctly, albeit with people making a strange amount of fuss over it, potholing it, etc.

Tropers like to exaggerate the importance of their favorite shows, and to say that the trope example they're adding is special in some way. This is the same motivation that led to the abuse of 'subverted' and its brethren—and after we made progress in eliminating that particular abuse of the English language, tropers needed some way to say that their favorite completely straight use of a trope was nevertheless special. I think it was random chance that "egregious" caught on as the word of choice for that purpose. Now it's gained memetic status as a word that tropers use a lot.

To my knowledge, "egregious" was just overused rather than misused.

Not A Subversion? Eliminated? What site are you on?

That's interesting, though - I never actually knew the origins of "egregious" as a TV Tropes meme.

I said "made progress". It might not be great at the moment, but I recall it being really bad back when I first joined the wiki.

Since the single proposition rename crowner showed that over 72% of those who voted supported a rename after more than a week, I think that an alternative titles crowner is in order, so I made one here. Feel free to point out any errors I may have made with it.

I'd like a few more votes on this, but I'm going to change it soon if the votes don't change.

I copied the description on The Egregious Trope-Man to The Adjectival Superhero page and fixed the wicks. After a moderator moved the discussion, I made The Egregious Trope-Man and its non-ptitle name redirects and posted a note on the Renamed Tropes page. If anyone thinks that the ptitle name no longer needs to be a redirect, I could put that on the cutlist as well.

Thanks to Dragon Ranger for working on the description after the name was changed by the way.
