Yu-Gi-Oh! The Abridged Series

While I think Doma failed in some aspect(more than infinity point anyone? men Lk is gong to tear them a new asshole for that) I think Mai being darker and Weevil and Rex was the best part, specially since it adress their fallen status

I didn't care for Mai being in the arc, and I really didn't like how she became Valon's motivation for antagonizing Joey. That being said, Mai did have some good moments in it, and aside from a lack of a non-Love Triangle motive I still like Valon's character.

Point of order. He was completely honest about Yugi's soul being held by Dartz, he just pretended to have a key to releasing Yugi's soul, not the soul itself.

Well, Valon is pretty much Non-Joey just like Rapahel is Non Yugi and Alister Non Kaiba so he dosent have a much grimdark motivation.

That doesn't mean Valon couldn't have gotten a better one. I admit that's it's really just because they used Mai. If it was a new character, I wouldn't have cared.

Pharoh crying for Yugi in the opening scroll was the funniest joke in the episode.

A new episode? So soon?

Nice use of the voice changing joke on Weevil and Rex. I wonder if Little Kuriboh considers their original joke an Old Shame now. Even funnier was Little Kuriboh speaking the Japanese phonetics from the end of the Weevil duel.

I think it's just LK's way of retiring the joke since quite frankly Weevil and Rex are done appearing after this point, save for one gag moment in Season 5 and a cameo at the start of the Millennium World.

"Maybe he's possessed by the spirit of a mighty Pharaoh who wins all the games he plays! Ohwaitthat'smeeeeee~! :D"

God, the delivery on that line was amazing.

It's weird to compare his criticism of Weevil and Rex being a one note jokes in this episode to his handling of Mako's status in episode 33 (I can't see the person who wrote this write "You're not a freak fish guy Mako, you are THE freaky fish guy and that's why people love you.")

Granted that was roughly 8 years ago, and Little Kuriboh has changed. And Mako's joke wasn't a reference in the way Weevil and Rex was.

Well, a lot of this particular Creator Backlash seemed to be based on how Weevil and Rex were essentially just Beavis and Butthead. And Abridged!Mako may be one-note, but he's not just a walking reference.

Little Kuriboh has been self-deprecatingly bagging on reference jokes for many many years now. Anyway, I thought making Rex and Weevil semi-serious characters for this episode worked pretty well.

That was pretty good. I do like how constantly they bagged on Weevil, but that guy's a pretty big dick in the show. Hell, other than him being not as bad in the Manga, and some games not portraying him as a bad guy in some fashion, he's one of the few minor villains to constantly show up. This is really the only arc where he did anything major outside of his first appearances(well, anime-wise. Getting rid of Exodia and trying to cheat out Yugi really had a pretty major impact overall. His appearance in Battle City didn't do anything unique besides giving Joey a fairly mediocre card. At least Jinzo was significantly useful).

I do love how the way Joey beats Weevil ("Gearfried is an iron golem. He can't be infected by your parasite") is completely invalidated by how he beats Rex ("Gearfried is a legendary sword master inside a suit of power-limiting armor")

I like how one of the pharaoh's monsutaa caados was Mushroom Man.

Yeah that was really nice subtle gag.

If Dartz stops sounding like Coiffio I am going to be legitimately upset.

I loved the episode. Especially the cutaway gag to Joey going "This is the easiest duel of my life!"

x3 Same. The voice is legitimately funny on its own while (from what I know) its source is kind of an obscure reference anyway.

Abridged Dartz made me kinda like non-abridged Dartz mainly cause of the hilarious voice XD

Of the two possible versions of Dartz that LK has shown us, I much prefer the one we currently have.

I read all of Dartz's dialogue in Legacy of the Duelist with his Abridged voice. Abridged voice Dartz is a case of Cant Unhear It for me, which I am totally OK with. Admittedly, that isn't saying much for me, since I don't think I've heard his normal voice, or if I have, I can't remember what he sounded like.

Does anyone in this thread donate to LK's Patreon? I'm curious about what the visual novel is like, but I don't have the means to donate and see for myself.
