The game had more typical RPG scenes in the PS2 versions, yeah. Most of the scenes had their soul in the voice acting, so I didn't mind but the animated scenes especially took a hit, yeah.

Maybe I am just old fashioned, but I prefer running around and folks moving about as they talk during scenes instead of talking heads.

It's not a big deal I guess.

Yeah, okay, hi. Gay here, and hugely offended by queer representations in Persona 4. Everything that linked article says about Kanji effectively sums up my feelings on his problematic representation, and while the Naoto stuff is functionally wrong Naoto's representation is hugely problematic regardless. There's a great deal of queer baiting, generally offensive material and unchallenged bigotry going on in the game, and it's disgraceful.
While I'm not gay myself, I respectfully disagree. The only person who does anything even remotely offensive to Kanji is Yosuke, who is depicted fairly negatively for doing so, and even then, only fairly soon after Kanji has joined up. He's something of a "typical high school student", and like it or not, your typical high school guy isn't going to be completely welcoming of homosexuality right off the bat. As for Naoto, I feel that people almost willfully ignore the reasons for her behavior- Which, while admitted not the most realistic, is justified fairly well by the facts of modern Japanese culture. I admit, my opinion might lack substance- I'm not exactly a victim of widespread intolerance- But I think Persona 4 handled the issue with a combination of realism and tact uncommon to media at large.

Well, I HAVE Persona PSP, but I got bored of playing it. The dungeon crawling was getting really repetitive.

It's unchallenged. In fact, the animation makes it even worse, depicting the protagonist in sympathetic feeling. If anything, the hiimdaisy comic gets the scene wrong.

It's still queer-baiting.

So, yeah, in totally not P4 subject changing news even though I was just lurking until now with nothing to contribute, I also found P3's dungeon grinding a bit difficult to get used to. That many floors to Tartarus is just sort of obnoxious when the environments all look rather samey. Sure, there were cosmetic differences, but little worth noting. Maybe it was better on the PS 2 versions.

#18960: Mar 2nd 2013 at 6:16:12 PM

I didn't mind it, but then again, I feel the floors of P4's dungeons were likewise samey.

I personally feel it's a combination of two things: P3's "blocks" are made up of more floors than P4's dungeons, and that P3's "blocks" are all part of a massive dungeon, while P4's dungeons are separate thing.

I do feel that if the block were divided into different dungeons (like in The Answer) there wouldn't be as much claims of repetitiveness. (Not that it would be enough to get rid of it completely of course)

I am probably making no sense.

Eh, I find I always have bad luck in games with random encounters, mostly cause I barely get a chance MOVE.

I blame the Snow Queen quest for most of my frustration, though. Time limits make me panicked, and my first tower saw Brown getting ALL the exp from Hypno.

It's unchallenged. In fact, the animation makes it even worse, depicting the protagonist in sympathetic feeling. If anything, the hiimdaisy comic gets the scene wrong.
Kanji is one of the most sympathetic characters in the whole game, while Yosuke is treated as being incapable of saying anything without shoving his foot into his mouth. He's pretty clearly meant to come off as being in the wrong, and he winds up being fairly kind to Kanji later in the game, because, shockingly, he develops over the course of the story. I'll grant that it mostly happens in somewhat out-of-the-way conversations, but people were getting kidnapped and the world was being being consumed by fog- I'm sure you can excuse P4 for wanting to be a game before being a morality play.

It's still queer-baiting.
No, it isn't. If it were an American or European company making the game, maybe, but cultural background matters, or else you can't get the whole picture.

Bathhouse scene says "Hi!" As does "Are you going to bum me in the night?" tent interior, and many others.
... The whole idea behind the Shadows and so on is that they're a twisted funhouse mirror of the character's hidden feelings, I've already talked about the campout, and if you won't raise specific complaints, I can't give responses.

I've said it before and I'll say it again- The conclusions ultimately arrived about Kanji isn't that he's gay, but that he's Kanji, first and foremost. Same with Naoto- She's ultimately just Naoto. I'd say that, by downplaying whatever sexuality and gender identity issues the characters have and instead focusing on them as people, P4 manages to avoid the most common pitfall of making a queer character who's nothing but that. That, at least, should be lauded.

[up]Oh, I guess you do have a point there. P4's dungeons each have their own unique music, while the P3 blocks all have basically "evolving" versions of one track. I admit, it's not much, but some times minor things like that do affect how folks few things.

He mostly drones on about how people refuse to face their future and prefer to dwell on the past. The antique clocks are a metaphor.

Also, he gives Maki the Legendary Flower. He isn't all bad.tonguetongue

Well OK he is, but I am making a humorous joke.

[up]I count Arena, if it helps.
