Indeed, Rah Xephon is an awesome show, it has good characterization, a great, intricate puzzle plot, nice character designs, and even decent action from time to time. Depending on how you define the genre, it could be said to be the best Mecha anime there is.

Of course, this is merely my opinion, you should watch it yourselves in order to form your own.

Commander Kunugi. He buried Mulians under the cherry trees in his garden.

I really should get around to watching the movie someday even if it is decisive in the fanbase.

I only watched about the first half of the movie. It felt like it was lacking a lot from the show, which is to be expected, but that doesn't mean I have sit through the rest of it.

On the movie: The beginning part, set in Tokyo before it became Tokyo Jupiter, was really nice and I consider it canon. Then the part set in Tokyo Jupiter, while different from the show, was well-done. Everything after they leave Tokyo Jupiter, however, is shit. Also, the movie doesn't have Futagami in it. That's unforgivable.

The show, on the other hand, was good. It's not one my favourite anime, but it's certainly an excellent show.

Somebody shop Kamina's sunglasses onto Kunugi.

The scene where he either laughs at Ayato for asking about his reputation or when he blows up Kuki would be appropriate.

You really like Kunugi, huh? I guess I thought he was pretty cool (and the second scene you mentioned was pure awesomeness) but overall he wasn't really my favourite character. That would be Futagami, of course. cool

What can I say, I like the Stoic Badasses. They are a much rarer breed than the shouty/showy badasses.

The movie loses some of the most brilliant bits, IE: the very neatly layered storyline. (Ep 8 is especially like that, people keep reacting in a way that is perfectly logical given what you know, only what you know isn't the whole picture and they're really acting from different motives altogether...)

I love the series too. I thought it had great characters and I liked the ultimate "niceness" of all of the protagonists.

Futagami was also one of my favorite characters. He's an example of what I consider Obfuscating Stupidity done right- rather than pretending to be a dolt, it's the difference between a nice but harmless persona and the nice and dangerously competent actual personality.

@Nyktos: I feel that way pretty often lately, and anytime I see Arilou post something like that, I know I really need to get around to it.

But I have midterms next week! sad

Though then again, some shots in the series are Eerily familar to Evangelion.

But that dosen't make it a bad series at all.

Exactly, some shots. There are a few parallels, yes, but they are mostly superficial and most probably intentional. The fact is that Rah Xephon and Evangelion are vastly different series.

And Rah Xephon is better, but that's besides the point.

If RahXephon is a ripoff of Evangelion, then Evangelion is a ripoff of Ideon.

Nah, Evangelion took more Devil Man influence, actually.

So everyone is this thread has finished the series?

Does anybody else think Ixtli is a Shipper on Deck? I mean she did move the Rah Xephon to cock-block Ayato right as Asahina was starting to put the moves on him.

Well, Ixtli did take Haruka's form, so maybe that influenced her...
