Y'know, since in one save file chances are you'll only ever get one or two of the Recovery Moves pretty much randomly, I have to wonder what weird fighting styles arose out of, say, only having the Ultimate Air Kick, or Ultimate Second Punch.
The plot seems to have been set between heroes and shadow (it was released a few days before heroes, I think), and between advance 2 and 3.
Three words that should send shivers down the spine of anyone who played it: INITIATING RECOVERY MODE.
Man the tiers in that game. Two tiers in particular are such outliers that it basically becomes:
- Emerl at the end of the game !
- A couple of tiers of everyone else, depending on their healing skill
- Emerl at the beginning of the game
I wish there was some sort of online so I could show off my 3 emerl types. Angemerl, Devimerl, and Emerl *
The sad, REAL American dichotomyThe only Ultimate I got was the Jump...
I didn't need it. Shadow's Rocket Kick let me basically destroy anyone in a single combo + pursuit, and Tails's upper + Cream's spammable aerial would demolish pretty much everything else.
I'm still missing 7 skills. I'd want to play it, but I have a DSi now, and my GBA is at home.
Fully charged Gamma's ground shot = 80% damage.
Fully charged Gamma's ground shot + fully charged Ichikoro meter = 180% damage.
Oneshotting everyone, including Doc Botnik, from across the screen = Priceless.
The look of happiness on my face when I saw that watery background and special sound effect that indicated I got a rare skill was great. The look when I noticed the rare skill was one I had before? not so much.
Is there a way to emulate or play the multiplayer online?

The sad, REAL American dichotomyMade a basic trope page for it. Edit, tropers, edit!
The Protomen enhanced my life.THOSE GUARD ROBOTS AS KNUCKLES IN THE CASINO.
THAT YOU FIGHT THREE TIMES IN A ROW.
AAAAAAAAUGH.

The Protomen enhanced my life.Hahaha, just got Sonic's theme stuck in my head, followed by Amy's and Cream's.
The entire soundtrack is an Ear Worm.
The Protomen enhanced my life.I had fun spamming the Ultimate Jump cause nothing could hit me from up there.
And ;___; at Emerl's Story.
The Protomen enhanced my life.for Angemerl, I would use a combination of fly type skills to get far out of reach, then send down a OHKO Chaos's arm stretching Air Power move to kill, fall down, and repeat.
Could I please take co-contribution credit for the page, since I brought it up?

The sad, REAL American dichotomySure thing! :)
The Protomen enhanced my life.Did anyone actually know someone else with a copy of the game and a link cable to trade move cards with?
Also, remember the days when every Sonic fan who could recolour a sprite had Battle Cards for their 'Original Characters'? (DO NOT STEAL)
I didn't, but I wish I did.
We need a page image. How about this one◊
...scratch that... it's missing Sonic.

The sad, REAL American dichotomySonic's the only character not there. XD
Check the related tropes list; I added more links for it.
The Protomen enhanced my life.as did I. Our baby is growing fast.
And I really hope you're a girl, so that's a little less creepy.
I saw your page, and you are. Good. Also, Ohio? back when I was playing, I was only one state away.

The sad, REAL American dichotomyyeah, i'm a girl. :P
...Hehe, thought of Amy in this game. She was crazy. XD
I liked Robotnik's mass-produced Phi robots. They were annoying if you hit the wrong event flag, though.
The Protomen enhanced my life.E-121 Phi is probably the best name of all of the E-series robots. Metal Sonic would be pissed to hear about them, especially the Sonic clone, though.
I'm going home this weekend. I think I might post the 3 movesets I have for emerl, and which cards I'm missing.
The sad, REAL American dichotomyApparently there were 14 of them. Hard to tell cause they kept respawning. :P
EDIT: May wanna spoiler some of the Emerl-related stuff, especially if it's spelled out in another game. ^^;

The Protomen enhanced my life.I only played this on an emulator. But I've got to say, most impressive pseudo 3D fighter I've seen. On GBA hardware at least.
Vastly underrated game. Needs More Love.
Kind of reminds me of the Tenkaicchi/Sparking series of DBZ games and Naruto Ultime Ninja Storm. And in a good way.
Anyhow, beat the game but didn't bother to try and unlock everything. I'll say many story fights were HARD AS NUTS.
Tails' trap move was pretty game breaker-y at times. What's more fun than a homing mine? His Power move on the other hand... His Shot is just awesome though. Mediocre Heal.
Cream wasn't all that except for the spammable Power and incredibly broken Heal. Why is Cream such a Game-Breaker in almost every Sonic handheld game since Advance 2?
The AI can be incredibly crafty or incredibly stupid though. It might have been blind luck by the AI's part but I think it changed it's auto block move to the type I was spamming the most. Then again, againts Rouge... Uppercut. Wait. Uppercut. Wait. Uppercut. Wait. Uppercut, insta kill ready. Wait. KO. Wait. Insta kill. Wait... The dumb broad didn't figure to fly away at times when I kept punching her in the air.
I wonder if theres some way to get the emulator online, making the game think it's linked with a cable to another GBA? That'd be awesome.
Sonic hates SOPAI loved Shadow's Ground Power. Invisible warping gogogo!
I have a message from another time...How's just the cover art for the page image, for now?
Link◊
And Shadow's ground power was pretty damn awesome. It's like "now you see me, now you don't.... BOOM MUTHAFUCKA!"

Sonic hates SOPAWell that's a good image for now, but I'd like one that shows of Emerl, since this was mostly a game about him.
The sad, REAL American dichotomyI always found the non-sprite art style for this game to be kinda weird. It's a somewhat 90s-ish... almost Jhonen Vasquez inspired art style. For Sonic and Shadow at least. It didn't show up anywhere else either. Who did the art for this?
So it's a couple of years late to the party, but time to make a thread for the awesome fighting game that was Sonic Battle for the GBA. This discussion was born out of a derail on the Sonic 4 thread.
