If Oscar Wilde had lived in our time, he would be a /b/tard.

Actually, scratch that. He does, and goes by Jethro Q Walrustitty.

@Norn: Wow. The awkward prose of those quotes is a spot-on imitation of Ayn Rand's writing.

If I get annoyed by whatever's playing in my head I just switch to something silly like Go DA DA. Problem solved!

I wonder if stem cell debates can get as stupid as abortion debates...?

Pluripotent = can become many kinds of cells.

Totipotent = can become any kind of cell.

As best I can tell, the argument against infantile stem cell research is half that it's seen to provide an incentive (or avoid a disincentive) for abortion, and half the Generalized Bioethics Argument, i.e. "this makes me feel icky and is therefore evil".

I will keep my soul in a place out of sight, Far off, where the pulse of it is not heard.

While I don't agree with stem cell research naysayers, I can certainly see why they think the way they do. In their mind I imagine it essentially chalks up to the selling of people (by what I imagine their definition of the word to be, anyway) for the sake of science.

Steps around stem cell discussion

I'm not quite sure what I'd do with a manual typewriter. I just found it oddly charming  *

that Olivetti or some company was still making them. But now they may have stopped.

Speaking of machines for typing, did anyone else use the AlphaSmart back in elementary school? I know I did for a few years...

We used the Alphasmart when we were passing stuff around, seein' as we didn't have actual laptops. And there was a kid who used them exclusively, I think because he had a neural disorder that messed with his fine motor control.

@Frog: I did. I'm in college and I considered using one for this semester as I felt it would be less distracting than a laptop.

Went with the laptop, though. It was far from my only distraction this semester. Grrrrr.

[up][up][up]Part of the what makes 'em great is the sound, I'll admit. Several departments at my university still have clerical workers/secretaries who use IBM Selectrics of some sort...I remember being in the hall once and hearing this great frenzy of clacking and being quite surprised. We've gotten used to the quiet of computers...

Hmm, yes, the Alphasmart is less distracting. Not sure how well that would work for me though, in the long run. I like having more options and a taller field of view...

Wait, there's a company that still makes manual typewriters?

I want one.
