Basically, quotes that would convince a Trekkie not to end their life.

... live long and prosper?

Is this some kind of trick question or something? o.o

I'm actually gonna answer the initial question. This is a Mc Coy quote from "Balance of Terror"...

"In this galaxy, there’s a mathematical probability of three million Earth-type planets. And, in all the universe, three million million galaxies like this. And in all of that – and perhaps more – only one of each of us. . . . Don’t destroy the one named ‘Kirk’."

Please let this be hypothetical

original star trek The Gamesters of Triskelion

slight misquote "the lights in the sky are suns they have planets, around them, people like us". In case the trekkie feels no-one understands him/her. also please be careful with the facts as the light of those stars takes a really long time to reach us here on earth.

The Next Generation not so much a quote but a episode Second Chances, ask your trekkie friend to imagine he was duplicated x years ago in a teleporter accident and was living happily some where ask him to think about what the clone did to become happy and how he could could do what the clone did. Under no circumstances refer to your friend as evil-name.

Deep Space Nine not so much a quote as a character Odo, remind him of the times where odo's mental and physical flexibility saved the day despite having a crappy upbringing etc. Whatever you do don't invoke Stepford Smiler or Changeling Fantasy it will not go well.

Voyager not so much a quote as an entire series. They Go through the Delta Quadrant, though "hell", and back home again to friends family and happiness. Avoid if you can the Borg or other bullies that could fallow them home or some of the more questionable episodes

Enterprise not really sure about this one as I don't think I ever saw a full episode. but think back on the reptilians or the aquatics etc. they seem strange dangerous ugly (whatever your friend could use help on) but by series end they are misunderstood/good-guy-ish. Use your own judgement here.

hope that helps

'Don't try to be a great man, just be a man, and let people make their own judgments.'

If he ask which idiot said that then just smile and say "you did."

Use the speech Riker gave Worf when he suggested that it was honorable to die rather than live with an injury.

Basically in summation, "If you were a REAL badass and you were really so concerned with honor", you'd try to live."

It was an honor

From the third film:

  • Kirk: "My God, what have I done?"
  • McCoy: "What you always do. Turn death into a fighting chance to live."

I know it's not Star Trek but this one helped me once:

Star Trek the next generation season five episode 16

  • RIKER: I've been studying this ritual of yours. Do you know what I've decided? I think it's despicable. I hate everything about it. The casual disregard for life, the way it tries to cloak suicide in some glorious notion of honour. I may have to respect your beliefs, but I don't have to like them.
  • WORF: It is not something I expect you to understand.
  • RIKER: No. All you really expect me to do is bring you the knife and then walk away, so you can kill yourself in peace. Well, I'm not going to make it that easy for you.
  • WORF: It is not easy for me. But each of us must die in our own time, and my time
  • RIKER: Remember Sandoval? Hit by a disruptor blast two years ago. She lived for about a week. Fang-lee? Marla Aster? Tasha Yar? How many men and women, how many friends have we watched die? I've lost count. Every one of them, every single one fought for life until the very end.
  • WORF: I do not welcome death, Commander.
  • RIKER: Are you sure? Because I get the sense you're feeling pretty noble about the whole thing. Look at me, aren't I courageous? Aren't I an honourable Klingon? Let me remind you of something. A Klingon does not put his desires above those of his family or his friends. How many people on this ship consider you a friend? How many owe you their lives? Have you ever thought about how you've affected the people around you? How we might feel about your dying?

Modify as needed

I'll repeat the above troper: Please let this be hypothetical.

However, in case it is not, as has occasionally been the case with this trekkie, here is one that has helped me:

If you can't take a little bloody nose maybe you ought to go back home and crawl under your bed. It's not safe out here. It's wondrous, with treasures to satiate desires both subtle and gross, but it's not for the timid." -Q

It sort of reminds me of a little boy and his tiger sledding off into the sunset.
