Okay, I love Spoony, but that's been out for, like, a year.

Anyone who assigns themselves loads of character tropes is someone to be worried about.

Speaking of which, I reflected some rockets today! I'm super-psyched because it was easier than I thought! Now to aim it in the right direction...

Also, are you having server problems?

Well it quits right after I join a game...

I can consistently kill dumb soldiers with reflected rockets, although soldiers who can aim somewhat better still elude me sometimes. Reflecting pipes for anything other than defensive purposes is still beyond me, though.

Although, I love when I just know the right moment to airblast and reflect a rocket right at a soldier's face in close range.

Heh, speaking of reflects, a little tale...

Was playing on that alltalk server with a friend of mine. He was using the Huntsman, and I was just being a Pyro. He tries to come into our base, rounds a tight corner into a door that I'm entering from the other side. He freaks, tauntingly says "OH HI" over voice, and fires. Out of hair-trigger reflex, I hit mouse2; his arrow bounces back at point blank and shoots him in the face.

So his "OH HI" became "OH H-hahahahaha, what the fuck?"

If only there was a way to set those arrows on fire when you sent them back.

My next task is to work on reflecting Demomen's grenades. They arc so it's a bit harder to predict their course.

...I'm just trying to learn how to not suck.

It's harder than it sounds, especially as I don't know what class I really want to use, even now.

As far as I can tell...

  • Scouts are if you want to be fast and have a major hand in fulfilling the main objectives of the stage.
  • Soldiers are a conventional FPS class.
  • Pyros are mainly if you want to get into melee, with some defensive/support capabilities.
  • Heavies are if you like mowing down enemies and holding key points.
  • Demomen are if you like trapping your opponents.
  • Engineers are if you like defensive positioning (but with the update they're more aggressive).
  • Medics are if you enjoy playing as The Medic.
  • Spies are if you enjoy mindgames and freaking out your opponents.
  • Snipers are if you like snipers.

  • Scouts harass, do hit-and-run attacks, pick off stragglers and wounded enemies, and occasionally cap points at double speed. They're essentially Goddamned Bats to the other team, and sort of an offensive Glass Cannon.
  • Soldiers are, well, for people who fondly remember deathmatch Quake. They have a rocket launcher; they kill people with it, jump in the air with it, and kill themselves with it. They are sort of The Mario, with good offensive capabilities at medium range and good mobility.
  • Pyros are heavily underpowered compared to their other classes. They are supposedly the close-quarters combat class, but that's not actually true at all - every other class can do more damage in close combat. No, pyros are more of a fire support class. Their job is to weed out spies, reflect projectiles to aid their team's advance, help protect sentries, and harass the enemy with fire, not so much killing them as forcing them to retreat. They can also be used as an ambush-killing class in some maps, and they have more endurance than almost anyone when capping a point, thanks to airblasts, the threat of fire at close range, and having more health than the Scout.
  • Engineers, for the most part, turtle. There are offensive engineer strategies, but we'll wait and see what the update brings.
  • The Heavy Weapons Guy is more about awareness and tactics than aiming, although you need to be able to track. His role is not so much to be a front line fighter as to be THE front line. Heavies are a Mighty Glacier with some very specific vulnerabilities they need to know how to mitigate.
  • The Demoman is hard. Playing demo involves some very specific aiming skills, map knowledge, and general awareness. Demomen generally play as assault fighters, standing back at a somewhat bigger distance than soldiers while having even more mobility. They can reach places in maps that are inaccessible to any other class and attack from almost all angles, unlike the soldier which really suffers when not on high ground. And, of course, they excel at taking out sentries and laying traps.
  • The Sniper is a sniper. Boom, headshot, all that. Besides that, he has Jarate, which has some close-range, team support capabilities, and the huntsman, a bow which acts like a sniper rifle for much lower ranges and is really sort of a 'battle rifle'.
  • The medic heals people, basically. And, thanks to ubercharges, he's a key point of offense. In typical public server matches, the team with the most medics has a better-than-even chance of winning. Medics allow their team to keep going, and they are at the forefront of any major offensive push, which is why they have a huge target painted all over them. Major skills are awareness, dodging, and running away backwards while firing the needle gun.
  • The spy's job is disruption. He'll never have a huge kill count, well not after the other team smarts up anyway, but he can be there to take out the targets no-one else can. He can kill the demo that's threatening a sentry nest. He can kill the entrenched heavy. With enough skill, he can kill an engy and destroy his stuff. Other than that, he can cause fear and confusion in the ranks; you know you have a good spy when the other team starts spy-checking one another in the middle of combat. At that point, the spy has won without even needing to be present.

I recomend starting out with the Medic. Follow around good player healing them, watch what they do, it'll provide some good learning oppurtunities if nothing else.

So, I don't know if it's been noted, but the Golden Wrench isn't a Guide Dang It!, but a random drop from crafting, apparently.

Okay, I love Spoony, but that's been out for, like, a year.

That's just it. IIRC he quit playing around March last year because of the updates turning the players into achievement whores or something to that effect. I guess he got bored one day and decided, "What the hell? I'll fire it up again, see what's changed."

He sounds like a fanboy who just sucks at the game and makes excuses for why he's getting his ass kicked. "It's those cheating airblasting Pyros! They're too broken and cheap!"

Yeah, being Internet famous doesn't give you a license to act like a retarded fanboy. Hell, barely gives you a licence to continue breathing.

If your problem is with shooting, learn the Heavy Guy. If your problem is just learning how to play the game in general, go to this wiki! Each class has a page, which you can look through to better understand their mechanics and weapons, as well as tips and strategies.

It looks like a Port-A-Sentry that's limited by being stuck at level 2.
