So, I was with this team tht was getting absolutely wrecked. I had absolutely nothing but Engies, snipers, and a scout to uber as a medic with regular uber...

There was also a pyro. He, and he alone (sure, I healed him, but...he did all the job) wrecked the crap out of the opposite team, no holds barred beatdown. I was actually aroused and frightened. He alone made an entire enemy team ragescramble.

The final score was him 130 points, me with 70, and the rest of my team was like in the 30s. It was goddamn surreal.

Weeeeelll...

It's almost certainly because that Pyro player was simply Godlike in his skills.

Yeah no kidding. Again, healing him and watching him work was terrifying, arousing, and beautiful at the same time.

Uh... did it not occur to anyone to just shoot the pyro?

He ambushed people, and remember, I was healing him. Their snipers werent good enough to headshot him. Thir soldiers were worthless. And anything he got close by immediately suffered an airblast/reserve shooter minicrit to the face.

Not even heavies stood a chance.

It seems like the opposing team sucked just as much as yours, they just had classes that were better En Masse.

Not that much. Just because there is no sniper headshotting everything and everone that is a threat does not mean that the other team sucks. The map allowed mobility and approaches from the side (Stage 1 Thunder Mountain) and as I said, him getting close to you = death by reserve shooter.

Oh, right, I missed the pocket medic part. That makes it substantially less impressive, no offense. A team with a medic > a team without a medic, always. And you don't have to be really good at a class to keep getting long kill streaks with a medic healing you constantly... although it certainly HELPS to be good.

Yeah. They had medics, though. The only moment I had to uber him, was against Sentries, which he avoided until then. A heavy/medic pair suffered this fate:

He jumpedo n them, and the medic died in two seconds, with airblast + reserve shooter full hit. Theneh just axtinguished the heavy. The precision with the reserve shooter was uncanny. As I said, the point different was twice from me, and more than four times from the rest of the team. That's quite something.

Pyros are really tough when there's a Medic pocketing them. They retain their mobility, they can go more wild with less consequences, they're right there to airblast the Medic if they get caught on fire, have a decent amount of health especially when overhealed, etc.

Back in my early days of just occupying this 24/7 server, I'd always pocket this particular Pyro because he was not only really good, but hilarious. He had the perfect personality for playing Pyro. In fact he's probably a bit of an inspiration for me in terms of having fun with the game and not losing hope.

It takes more than...WAY more than average skill to uncannily reflect every single rocket, land every single reserve shooter hit with ungodly precision, and run around obstacles than it is as simple to wm+1 with a medic. while it might be effective...it is vastly different from a pyro and a good pyro

Speaking of I'm starting to get pretty good at airblasting rockets. There's few things that are more enjoyable than killing soldiers by hitting them with their own rocket. A direct hit too!

it's really hard to miss a reserve shooter shot at point blank range tho. that gun's been my go to weapon ever since the axtinguisher nerf and it can pretty much one shot any class up close except heavy if you light them up for half a second, then puff and pump.

Wait, the Flamethrower's 2ndary shot airblast thing douses on-fire teammates AND reflects projectiles? I legitimately never knew that! Thank God too, after using Medic/Engie/Heavy for so long, i've been trying to learn Pyro.

Does it work with all flamethrowers or just specific ones, cause i'm gonna be stuck with the default equip for now.

All the airblasts reflect and extinguish.

The only one which Can't is the Phlogistinator, which is the most all-out offensive of the Pyro's flamethrowers.

But unfortunately, it seems the role Valve wants the Pyro to be best at is "Engie's Guard Dog." But just ignore me on that if you want, I tend to get really bitter over stuff that's almost certainly irrelevant to anyone else.

Also, Backburner's airblast costs 50 instead of 20 if I recall correctly.

Others - the grand total of two - are fair game though.

The Scorch Shot is a secondary that has a knockbak as well. It does not reflect but, in a pinch, it is useful, which is why it is my secondary with the phlogistinator when I use it.

The scorch shot is also AMAZING with the phlog because of its bounce, so it is easier to set people on fire with it. And its fire damage builds up the phlog Mmmph!

Actually I think the Backburner's airblast is 30, not 50. 50 would be ridiculous for the trade-off of "crits from behind." I think you meant to say it uses 50% more ammo per airblast, which adds up to 30.

No, the Backburner has a +150% airblast ammo cost, which adds up to 50 per shot. This is meant to encourage the Pyro to avoid direct confrontation wherever possible, which is the entire point of the Backburner.

Personally, I prefer to use the Mannmelter with the Backburner since it gives a way to extinguish burning teammates without eating up ammunition.
