"Why/how could anyone like this thing I don't like?" has to be one of the most useless questions a person could ask, period."

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. The Japanese voice of Bulma has passed away at age 57 of unknown causes.
You know exactly what I'm referring to, and by extension, what I'm not. Don't play word games with me.

So I've been watching some anime lately. Sword Art Online, which I find that I really don't like, and Kaiji, which I find I really do like.
To be fair, SAO had a very strong opening. Very promising.
GODDAMNIT!

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Rurouni Kenshin's mangaka has been charged with possession of child porn.
Well, there goes my childhood.
EDITED for clarity.

Not a substitute for a formal medical consultation.Heroes don't exist, this was just a handy reminder.
Rurouni Kenshin is one of my favorites, so this one stings.
"Curry killed the pussy hoping that I could kill the hate in you" - Curry, D. "TABOO | TA13OO." TA13OO, PH, 2018Damnit, Watsuki
Shotacon/Lolicon manga is one thing, but real life child porn is reprehensible to me.
He deserves whatever punishment he gets.

Watch SymphogearWell, this is depressing. Rurouni Kenshin was one of my favorite manga series back in middle school. Reading about the fact that he liked child porn is kind of disgusting. I still love the manga but I'll separate the work from the author.

You all know this assumes that this isn't a frameup job, right?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Yeah, just reading the ANN article, there isn't exactly a lot of information. And only one quote from the author in question. So, I dunno, a frameup sounds likely.

Spelunking through a Halo Ring is something else...Is there any obvious reason to assume this is a frame-up? I mean, the dude immediately confessed after the evidence was found at his home.
What's precedent ever done for us?We only have the police statement's word for that.
And I dunno about you guys, but if he was lusting after little girls all those years, you'd think he'd dabble into lolicon-pandering stuff in at least some of his manganote , wouldn't he? It's not like that's a taboo in the manga/anime industry.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Well, that's all we have to work with for now, and it's still more than what you have to suspect that it's a frame-up.

Not a substitute for a formal medical consultation.Who the hell would bother with trying to frame a fucking mangaka?
Like, I wish this wasn't true, but from what I've heard about Japan justice system, they don't bother with accusations unless they have a rock solid case, so it doesn't look good.
Do note that the laws changed on the subject this year, before this year it was not illegal to possess it in a lot of forms. It was illegal to distribute, seek and such. The loophole was mostly intended for historic works and family photos.
It’s Japan though so just getting accused means his public life is over, no matter the result, his works are likely to be pulled from shelves entirely and never seen again.

Point noted, but issues of morality aside: if the report details are true, he was in possession of that material as recently as last month.
Not a substitute for a formal medical consultation.Well shit, and of course he just started writing Kenshin revival series. So much for that, I guess.
The police, as an extension of the criminal justice system, are the people you would normally confess to, yes. Plus, a creator’s art is not a hard-and-fast guide to their particular fetishes, particularly when those fetishes are socially objectionable (and yeah, there is a stigma against child sexualisation in the manga industry - it’s just not as strong and consistent as it is in the West). Another guy in Watsuki’s social circle, Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro, was busted sixteen years ago for soliciting an underage prostitute, and his most famous work, Toriko, was about big muscly dudes punching (and occasionally eating) each other, with nary a suspiciously young schoolgirl in sight.
What's precedent ever done for us?Are there any manga works that got expirmental with page layouts? I'm talking Jim Steranko level stuff.
The Japanese justice system is actually pretty screwed up and frequently forces confessions from totally innocent people. Since a confession is considered all the evidence you need, they then go to jail.
Not saying that's the case here but don't go thinking Japan's police and courts are exactly wonderful.
Yeah, but we’re talking extensive physical evidence from his home and office plus the confession. Even if you consider the evidence unreliable, all of it is in the ‘he be hella guilty’ category.
Japan doesn’t have an ideal criminal-justice system, but it’s not so utterly degraded that being arrested for a crime is no longer even an indicator that you might have committed a crime. To be blunt, you’re peddling conspiracy-theory nonsense on no better ground than that you liked this one guy’s work.
What's precedent ever done for us?That's not what Arha is doing though? At worst, it's a legitimate fact that happens not to be the case in this instance?
Because yeah, by all counts, this dude is guilty as sin and deserves the book thrown at him.
UY is a really odd case, it’s mostly just a triangle Bait-and-Switch instead of a full on Harem. Also very Seinfeld Is Unfunny, it just does not hold up nowadays I wouldn’t really recommend it to anyone.
