Is it really a new design? I don't notice any notable differences between it and, say, this, or this, or this.

1. First two links are 403.

2. From what I can see, the left one (that is, to our left hand) is either a Unit 01-style central horn or it's just assymmetrical.

<insert Angrish about the EvaGeeks site's bone-headed anti-hotlink design> Just click on the URL address bar and then press enter. It should immediately bypass the problem.

It looks to me that the asymmetry is just a product of the viewing angle.

It doesn't and the left horn is clearly different. It's longer and the boundary between it and the forehead plate is sharper and more pronounced.

To me, the right horn is clearly attached to the forehead plate but the left horn looks more attached to the helmet instead.

The lower half of the head is definitely different. Also the "ear" part.

Just for clarity and consistency, I'm using directions based on the object's own orientation rather than ours.

[up][up] The discrepancies might be because we're seeing a side of the right horn that we cannot see on the left one. Also, the left horn appears to be pointing towards us, which would distort its appearance to make it look shorter than it actually is without anything to use as a reference point. And given that it's a sketch, it's all too possible that the artist who drew it made a mistake in their proportions out of haste.

[up] Yeah, on a second look, you're right.

On a different note, this question has been bugging me for a while: Is the JSSDF the entirety of Japan's military forces that also happens to be under UN authority, or is it just a new branch of the JSDF that directly answers to the Japanese government rather than the UN, with the rest of the JSDF having been seconded to the UN when the latter was militarized at some point between the Valentine Treaty and 2015?

For reference, the EvaGeeks people have managed to gather some info on the topic. Apparently the JASDF still exists in some capacity, for one.

[up][up]I noticed that its lower jaw resembles that of Unit 01 now, but didn't want to bring it up because I can't quite remember what the jaws originally looked like.

Current avatar is the closest I can get on short notice. It's just Unit 8 with the left half of 2's head, and the left half of the body painted for 2's color scheme.

You know, guys... I've been wondering today. With the final Rebuild film coming, where else can the franchise be taken in future animated works?

Animated miniseries depicting Second Impact, perhaps?

Honestly, if Cowboy Beebop and One Piece catch on, I see an American made live action series being the next big thing. Otherwise, the property could just be done.

I'd rather have no more Evangelion at all at this point.

[up][up]The day a live-action movie is made will be the day when the franchise dies. Seriously.

[up]Not happening. Something this big is never left alone.

[up] It has. I recall reading that the folks at Peter Jackson's Weta Workshop were super fans of Neon Genesis Evangelion (probably because it aired more than once in New Zealand or something like that).

There was a lot of concept art, including a full-body shot of Unit 01 which looked a lot more beastly (maybe a case of showing their work on account of how the Units aren't exactly robots?). The only thing that felt off was the concept art for Asuka and Rei, who are looking less than pleasing to the eye.

Weta's Evangelion project didn't pan out for a lot of reasons, chief of which was licensing issues, I think.

But guys, do we really want a live-action Eva movie?

Definitely not in my case. Live-action adaptations of other animated mediums never work out.

[up][up]The live action Death Note movies actually weren't bad, but they also weren't done by Hollywood.

I think a live action adaptation of Neon Genesis Evangelion could work.

I do not think a movie adaptation of Neon Genesis Evangelion can work (live or animated), as Rebuild has demonstrated.

I mean, episodes 1 to 6 can be made into a decent movie, since it's the simplest and most straightforward portion of the show, and the Jet Alone episode could probably be cut entirely, but after that? No section of the episodes really make sense in a movie format, and I don't think it can easily be reformatted into a movie type of story.

Eva is too long to fit into one movie. Into a miniseries provided it had an astronomical budget, however...

Oissu!

I think there are two potential routes to go.

The first is a mini series covering episodes 1 to 6, followed by a series. Similar to the way Battlestar Galactica was done by the Sci-Fi channel.

The other possibility would be an HBO type series.
