Yeah, 3.33 kind of made it hard for me to really enjoy any other pieces of Eva related media, if only cause they remind me of what happened here, and that it is still in that overly depressing state despite having seen other stories and franchises grow and change.

Personally, I'm not okay with it if it means having to wait till the end of the fricken decade for this film to be finished. That means that I have spent, like, eight years of my life waiting for this film. If it doesn't impress, I'll be quite ticked. And the long wait has also dulled my feelings for the story too. I've had to mature, experience loss, and indeed changed over the course of those years, which makes it increasingly difficult to sympathize with Shinji's plight, as he's still stuck in that same state he was in. You can't push it aside forever for other projects Anno. You made a commitment, and you need to see it through to the end.

And I still don't think we've seen the last of Shinji and Rei's relationship, unless Anno has so much contempt for the people who enjoyed watching it that he set out to deliberately undermine it in the meanest way possible (talk about showing contempt for the audience if true). Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if Shinji coming to accept Rei's origins and the like would also count for part of his character growth. Again, to simply drop this relationship all for the sake of a message, even though it allowed for great character interaction and development, is one heck of a poor decision.

I've come to accept that Shinji and Rei can be good for each other without shipping, and that it's unlikely that Rei Q's arc will involve Shinji given her fascination with Rei 2's behavior and Shinji's rejection of her as a copy.

I still want Rei 2's return in some way all the same, but I feel like the last movie is going to be a much less fantastic and more gritty/grounded journey to Shinji's maturity. One that probably won't have Rei in as big of a role in Shinji's life as 2.22. And I don't know if I want that, but I can live with it.

After seeing 3.33, I think I've started to grow out of Eva. I started thinking about it as I watched 2.22 and felt less connected to Shinji as he left Misato's place, and with how little I connected to him in 3.33 I think it's time to stop projecting my 20 year old self onto a 13 year old boy. At the same time though, I'm definitely holding out for the last movie, because it's most likely going to be the end of the franchise and I'm not missing that for the world.

I do still think that Rei will play some sort of pivotal role in the next film, as it has to tie up her relationship with Shinji (yeah I still want the ship to happen XD). Interestingly, I noted that it is when Rei Q started acting based on her own thoughts and wants that she started to act more like Rei II, which may imply something.

And yeah, I've kind of grown out of the series a bit, mainly due to the amount of delays and problems I have with Anno's writing and themes.

I do like how Shaved Gendo really looks like an older Shinji.

Now I need somebody draw Shinji with Gendo's beard.

And I remember some art on Deviantart of what Shinji and Asuka would look like in Gurren Lagann; long story short, by the time it got to the point where Shinji would be an adult, he had already started to wear glasses, and was looking a lot more like Gendo than anyone would want him to. >.>

I think I once saw some official art that had Shinji pictured in three stages- as a baby in Yui's arms, as a teen, and as a hypothetical adult who looked a lot like a depressed Young!Gendo.

You know, I've come to really resent the folks at Eva Geeks, since they pretty much worship the ground that Anno walks on, and pretty much blow off reasons people have for disliking 3.33 as being, and I quote:

"The "why" is almost exclusively because people deluded themselves into expecting a brighter, happier Eva — and instead of Shinji & Rei's Merry Wincest Adventures (or whatever), they got Annoed."

Seriously, they think that everything Anno does is pretty much immune to criticism because "THEMES AND SYMBOLISM!"

Do you ever get the feeling most of what happened in both the series and the films could've been avoided if people actually told Shinji what the fuck was going on?

[up][up][up][up] Eva Geeks is...not the best Eva fansite, or analysis site, really. I dislike them as a fan. Don't really want to get into details, though.

The only issue I have with them is that most members aren't receptive to any kind of What If? thinking. Like, any deviation from canon outside obviously joke crackfics is shunned like sacrilege.

I don't really visit or care about evageeks either way.

As for fanfiction, people can write what they like, but I don't really have any interest in fanfiction either for the most part. (as far as prose is concerned anyways)

Evageeks is good for news and gathering supplementary information, but aside from that I wouldn't touch them with a Lance of Longinus. Or maybe I should.
