Calling it lame for the sake of calling it lame as a criticism.

Convincing Agrument.

I gave my reasons. If you pretend ignoring them and saying I said it was lame 'because' that's your own problem.

No, you said it was unlikely, then just said it was just lame. Doesn't seem very convincing to me.

There's tons of people I met with a first name like me, and two I meant that had the exact same first & last name, and another that had the same first & a similar last name.

It's very likely than you think.

Yeah, and all three share the same kind of positions in the very same ultra exclusive world 'saving' project. That's very likely, and of course it's very important for the story for their naming to be railroaded like that. It isn't gratuitous at all, no sir.

So let me guess this straight, you can perfectly believe robots that out powered by the soul of there parents, and conveniently join the same organizations, to fight off said monster that are aliens that will destroy the entire world. Which part of that is lie mind you.

Yet, it too much for you to except three characters with similar names? Uh huh...

Really, of all the changes and other things you could be having an argument about, it has to be some petty thing like Asuka's name?

Of all the elements Eva uses that could be called gratuitous or railroaded, Asuka's name being changed is pretty low on the list. You may as well include how Asuka and Rei just happen to have a Red Oni, Blue Oni dynamic, or how they're the Id and Superego in a Freudian Trio with Shinji. I guess those must all be supposedly clever things that are just lame, then.

[up][up] Comparing something that is the very core of the series to a pointless, absurdly petty change that serves no real useful purpose? Wow, I have seen strawmen and strawmen, but this...

[up]Red Oni, Blue Oni relationships actually do happen every time a character with a strong brash personality and another one with a more level headed personality are paired up. It happening in an adventure story isn't a big deal because hell, it even happens often in real life, too. Really, these comparisons keep getting more and more bizarre.

Point still stands, there's a lot of unbelievable things about Evangelion. I'm sure characters having similar names is far from the most skeptical concept of the series. If you can except the core, i'm sure you can except something petty like similar names.

But it's one of the most pointless. And gratuitous and pointless things generally are lame.

If it's so pointless, then it really doesn't matter now, doesn't it?

It doesn't matter enough as to defend it, then.

You we're the one to voiced how skeptical the similarity between the names are, and now you're suddenly saying it's pointless.

It is when the two people involved are just running in circles going "nun uh" to the opposing side's viewpoints.

Now knock it off.

According to the rules, the only time it needs to be knock off is if it's getting out of hand, which it isn't.

And besides that, even if it is getting out of hand, the discussion died hours ago, so there's no point in threatening us over something that's already dead.

I had no reason to assume that when you two woke up and logged here today you would stop with this discussion.

Think of it as a... preventing measure.

Regarding the supposed improbability of all three girls having the same suffix in their surname: There are many Japanese surnames that share kawa/gawa, moto, hara, zawa, shima/jima, or other components as suffixes. Asuka, Rei, and Mari's case is not that strange, and can be adequately explained by as simple of a handwave as "the Theme Naming was predestined". If you have a problem with that explanation (that is, you more or less consider it a lazy copout), however, then that seems to me like it goes into matters of personal taste in what tropes you like and don't like.

@Napoleon De Cheese I'm officially done with this tiresome conversation, how ever a word of advice. Please don't initiate another conflict with a person through PM and say you're going to delete every reply. If that's what you're going to do you should just let the convoersation die already. Not play "I'll get the last laugh". Because that what it sounds like you're doing. Not to mention it's a waste of time to both side

But yeah, i'm now officially done with this conversation.

He didn't do anything wrong or rude. He just continue the debate with reply and then claim he didn't want to continue so he'll delete every reply.

If I didn't want to continue it, not telling you would have only made you waste your time redacting an answer and then waiting or at least expecting for a reply.

I'm just saying if you want to end a conversation just let it end, not reply with PM and then state you'll ignore everything else.

But yeah, I can assure you everyone in this thread is starting to get sick of us, so let just drop it.

@NDC: The minimum that common courtesy and netiquette requires, AFAIK, would be to tell him that here, not the way you did it (unless Afro Warrior 27 is exaggerating). A forum argument's end should be declared in the forum; likewise with a PM argument. I mean, it's not like you've got anything to hide.

/hopefully the derail and argument ends here
