Rework, possibly Cut List, "You fail X Forever"...

442: I intentionally worded it as Artistic X License to avoid needing a colon due to awkward wording (although that's a moot issue now) and to make it seem like an actual license. As in, we're giving the examples license to practice Artistic Chemistry, Artistic Physics, Artistic What-have-you. It's not negative, and the name implies a friendly wink to the writers. Like a "We know this would never work, and you probably know this would never work, but we won't tell if you won't" type-thing.

Like I said though, it's now a moot point. With ptitles gone, there's no reason to not put a colon in the name.

EDIT: Oh, and I would disagree with making it a namespace. Unlike YMMV and Fridge Logic/Brilliance/Horror, the rehabilitation of these pages would make them actual tropes. If we split them off into a namespace they would just attract more of the current behaviour, fixing nothing.

What's wrong with just Artistic License – Physics again? I'm reading it with "Artistic License" as a noun adjunct. As in "the kind of physics you get by exercising your artistic license".

I don't think anybody's arguing against it on grammar grounds. The objections I see are mostly "I don't think it's snarky enough." and remember, the grammar thing can be gotten around, now that the Ptitles fix is in — the name can be made so that Artistic License – Medicine displays as "Artistic License: Medicine".

Except I think that's not as good as just "artistic license medicine". That colon looks like it's trying to implement an inline namespace.

Is this still up for discussion?

How about instead of "Artistic License: X" we could have "Artisic License In X"?

Howsabout Artistic License—Chemistry? No confusing colons, not as clunky as Artistic License in Chemistry.

It may be pedantic but the emdash looks terrible like that. Grammatical correctness aside.

Why not Artistic Licence In Chemistry? No pesky puncuation marks to get in the way at all.

Clunkiness, really. Let's see, so far, the options are:

• Artistic Chemistry License
• Artistic License: Chemistry
• Artistic License - Chemistry
• Artistic License In Chemistry

We could go for purposefully slangy:

• Artistical Chemistry
• Un Chemistry
• Pseudo Chemistry

I think we should stay with Artistic License because you say it snarkily without it being inherently negative.

I don't think it needs to be more slangy.

We've already ruled out the slangy ones for being too easily confused with pre-existing terms. The Artistic License ones are the clearest and most on point descriptions. It's really just a matter of formatting at this point.

Okay. Just some notes on the how-to of making the change, then. A redirect should be made for each with the new un-punctuated version. For example: ArtisticLicenseChemistry for YouFailChemistryForever. Then two custom title requests for each. One customizing (punctuating) the new redirect and one customizing the old title.

• Move the content to a new ArtisticLicenseX page.
• Holler for a mod to move the discussion page.
• Make the old name(s) into a redirect to the new one.
• Submit a custom display request for the new name to display as "Artistic License - X"
• Submit a custom display request for the redirect to also display "Artistic License - X"

The move is not necessary. Doesn't hurt anything, but the titles will show up correctly everywhere even if the text is not moved. Everywhere but the URL bar, that is.

I still prefer Artistic License in X than a "-" or a ":".
