I have tickets to see them on November 27th in Atlanta.
I will probably be seeing them in Atlanta that day as well. I did so back in 2006 as well, in fact, though missed the opening band (Leaves' Eyes) and the first part of their set due to us getting lost on the way down. Still, great show.
Anyone have thoughts on Grave Digger? I'm not familiar with them, like, at all.
Somehow you know that the time is right. They only album by them I listen to is Rheingold from 2003 which might just be the most German metal album ever. Raw cast-iron speed metal with a grit-ridden midrange roar passing as singing over ballsy, aggressive yet never thrashy riffs that sound like a way meaner Accept? With a lyrical concept based on Wagner's Ring Cycle? Yeah it's as heavy as you're already thinking it is.
I've looked into some of Grave Digger's stuff and they're okay, though they can can be pretty silly at times. I mean, here's a group of Germans singing about Scottish independence, featuring bagpipe solos and the band members LARPing as Scottish clansmen! Still, what appears to be their Signature Song "Rebellion" is a cool anthemic Earworm.
Saw that tour in Worcester and it was absolutely fantastic. Shame that you won't get to see Blind Guardian play Wizard's Crown, however; they played it on that date and the Philly date before telling the crowd that they'd probably never play it again. As for Grave Digger, their music is great and they're tight live, but their setlists SUCK. They ignore such a massive portion of their career in favor of a bunch of songs off the same few albums.
Got my 2015 best of collage◊ up.
Sweet, more stuff I need to check out, though I've already stumbled across several of those, either from this thread or from the labels I follow on Bandcamp and Facestalk. That Crypt Sermon is one of my favorite doom albums of this year.
Somehow you know that the time is right.New Chthe'ilist album has a track up for listening on Stereogum. They play a mixture of Finnish style death metal like Crematory, Demilich, and Adramelech and grimy, doomy, blackened death along the lines of Infester, Imprecation, and Incantation with technical and classic heavy metal touches.
Phil Tougas is a god damn genius. Between the new Chthe'ilist, First Fragment, and Zealotry albums, 2016 is gonna be a big year for him. Gonna have to talk to that kid about getting one of his bands down here, too - he lives like six hours from me and it wouldn't be hard to set up a weekend run or something.
He got me into Blood Incantation and did a pretty good job in Serocs. Not a fan of First Fragment but I look forward to his funeral doom side project.
Atramentus? No clue when he's actually going to get around to doing it, since he's had that band forever.
Speaking of Tougas, the new Serocs is streaming and it's dope as fuck.

This is pretty good for brutal/technical death metal. It has a lot of classic Suffocation esque pacing and they don't go too heavy on the lead guitar, spacing it out at particular intervals to flesh out details. The drumming is maybe even a bit too reined in and I love the guitar tone they have, resonant and stalwart yet not trying to cram it as much bottom end as possible.
So listening to new Serocs more and damn, great riffing but the drumming feels phoned in especially compared to the debut album.

That's a shame. I loved that man more than I'd care to admit to. He was a giant in the world of music that even those outside of the metal arena knew about and respected.
He will be missed.
Rest in peace, you crazy fucking bastard. You were the last true rock-n-roller and now you're gone. The world lost a legend.
Will miss the bloke. Aces.
Been blasting Motörhead since I woke up this afternoon and was somewhere between headbanging and crying to the solo in Over The Top.
May he rest in peace.
It is a very sad event, especially now that the year is coming to an end
OH GOD WHY AM I A CAR!? - ForzareGoddammit, 2015 really is a shitty year.
Anyone here seen the Blind Guardian/Grave Digger North American tour?
