I'm not sure that I would call this song metal per se, but this band has dabbled in metal before. They're called Sumo Cyco. They're from Canada and are fronted by Sever (who you might remember as Skye Sweetnam from like 10 years ago). I'm always curious about what people will say about them, so here's their latest music video, just released on Thursday, for their song, "Fighter". The music video is like a Godzilla film meets Mortal Kombat meets WWE:
That's good to here.
Recently I've picked up the new Melechesh album I think it's rather good.

Apologies for doublepost. Any black metal to recommend? Classic or otherwise. I'd ultimately probably like something a bit more varied, but most folk metal, symphonic-tinged, and more death metal influenced acts seem to pretty heavily dilute the style.
The main thing I've gathered is they take a lot of inspiration from dark ambient, and tends to be slower and more hypnotically repetitive.
What are some BM bands you've checked out that you like?
Somehow you know that the time is right.Nothing pure to the genre, really. The only one I've consistently liked is Melechesh, but they're folky and thrashier so I'm not sure if they even count.
Mainly I just don't have a basis to work off of.
Well, some of the "classic" albums of the genre are:
- Mayhem - De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas
- Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse
- Burzum - first four albums (my favorites are Det som en gang var and Hvis lyset tar oss)
- Darkthrone - A Blaze in the Northern Sky, Under a Funeral Moon, Transilvanian Hunger
- Satyricon - Dark Medieval Times
- Ulver - Bergtatt and Nattens Madrigal
I think you'll probably like at least some of those. Of course, that list is all Norwegian bands, and I'm honestly not too familiar with most early BM from other countries, of which there is a fair amount.

Somehow you know that the time is right.Eh, I always suggest Carach Angren, cuz they be pretty cool guys.
OH GOD WHY AM I A CAR!? - ForzareIn other news, Cryptopsy is crowdfunding a new EP. Not sure if anyone else here likes them, but I figured I'd give it a bump as it's not made much progress yet (though the campaign still has over a month to go).
Somehow you know that the time is right.Just here to second Carach Angren
No regret shall pass over the threshold!Probably not contributing anything to the Cryptopsy campaign. They're a great live act and (with the exception of Flo) really nice dudes, but the s/t was pretty "eh" and I'm not contributing sight unseen. The new song that they played at Ralph's in Worcester was decent, but again, not even considering contributing until they release at least one full song.
Wow Carach Angren is badass in a can. They're like a darker, more technical version of Alestorm. And the black metal vocals are actually highly comprehensible for the genre. YES.
They most definitely have lest QUEST in em... except maybe Death Came Through a Phantom Ship.

OH GOD WHY AM I A CAR!? - ForzareDid you hear the joke about the drummer who released an audioclip making fun of his fans because the new album was crap? And a few years later, he asks those same fans to fund the recording of a new EP?
Huh, looks like Jason Blachowicz from Malevolent Creation (which should tell you everything right there) is trying to start shit on Gruesome's Facebook page because Gus Rios was (allegedly) talking shit on Malevolent's page. Do he and Phil not understand that when you're in a band that is widely perceived as a has-been laughingstock because of shit like this, the best course of action is to NOT continue pulling the same ridiculous, petty, infantile bullshit that got them that reputation in the first place? Oh well, I guess it lines right up with the stories that I've been told by people who have toured with them over the years about how they're a bunch of white trash losers. They certainly do a good job at reinforcing that perception.
Edit: The post is gone. Either Jay removed it himself or one of the dudes from Gruesome deleted it. Still childish as hell.

[IRONS INTENSIFY]
OH GOD WHY AM I A CAR!? - ForzareSo, uh, thoughts on the Morbid Angel situation? Here's what I think is going on:
- Trey was going to fire Dave and jumped the gun.
- Dave genuinely didn't know that Trey was getting rid of him.
- Trey already fired Thor or is about to and Tucker knows.
- Yeung left independently.
Whatever the case, this is one of the best things that has ever happened to the band. Dave's best days are behind him and he was every bit as responsible for Illud as Trey, while Yeung and Thor just didn't belong in the band (Yeung because he's way too robotic for Pete's spot, Thor because he legit can't play Rutan's leads). With Thor and Yeung gone, this leaves some room for better members to take their spots; I'm thinking Shaune Kelley or Leon Macey for Thor's spot and Derek Roddy, Jack Blackburn, Shannon Lucas, or Alex Pelletier for Yeung's spot, as they could all easily bring exciting new things to the band and fill their respective slots far better than Thor or Yeung did.
Is Dave actually out, then? Last statement I heard from him was that he was still in the band and the thing with Steve was actually a separate project.
Somehow you know that the time is right. The impression that I'm getting is that Trey was going to fire him and forgot to actually tell him and go through with the process before making the announcement. I doubt it's a legal hangup, as Trey owns everything and any action that Dave may take regarding the name or the logo would be frivolous. He could try, but the suit would not survive a motion to dismiss because it would be complete and utter bullshit.

Okay, Dave just released another statement and he is indeed out. I am interested to see what direction the band will go in now...
Somehow you know that the time is right.I'd like to see them expand on what they were doing with Gateways. They need a new guitarist who can play Rutan's leads (which Thor couldn't) and bring that same kind of elegance and majesty to contrast Trey's chaos, and they need a drummer who can capture Pete's sheer ferocity while also bringing their own feel to the table. I think they have greatness left in them, and I'd much rather see them create new classics and staples rather than just play all the hits live.
Facestalk post on the new Iron Maiden album.
In a nutshell, it's called The Book of Souls, it's releasing worldwide on September 4, and it will be a double album spanning 11 songs and 92 minutes.
I believe the word we're looking for now is YAY
Somehow you know that the time is right.I'm more stoked for the upcoming Dying Fetus album than anything else. They've been playing a new song live and it sounded wicked awesome from the video that someone captured of it, and I have no doubt that Gallagher and co. will knock it out of the park. I wonder if he remembers how he bitched at me for fist-bumping him too hard while he was baked off his ass at the Summer Slaughter last year. That was pretty funny. "You gotta bump people's fists, man. You can't go around fuckin' punchin' people's fists, man; they call it a fist-BUMP for a reason."
Yeah, I'm in Tennessee and the idea of extreme metal in general from the Deep South (Florida doesn't count as Deep South IMO) just seems weird to me, even though searching for Tennessee bands in Metal Archives turns up quite a few underground bands, so there is a lot more of a scene around here than people tend to think.
Somehow you know that the time is right.
