Layout issues aside, what you wrote was funny, at least for me. I can totally see Hussie's love of sinking ships kicking in anytime.

That, and remember most of the actual Act 6 has been taken over by that skullass of Caliborn, and despite his hilarious moments with sucky character and story design, I guess it's boring to see his eternal webcomic attempts. So Hussie chose to focus on the kids. Shame he decided to focus on their negative, angsty side, and only decided to show their true personalities after the Beta Kids arrived.

But to be honest I would love to see much more of Homosuck.

"Act" and "Intermission" haven't meant what they usually mean in this comic since basically ever. There's just shit in the main plot, and other shit that's also in the main plot but happening in another universe.

Yeah but it's just ridiculous how the intermissions are becoming the main plot in Act 6 Act 6.

If you don't think Hussie is doing it on purpose I don't know what to tell you.

We all know everything he does has some obscure purpose. He's got too much mind screw skills to be considered a crappy writer. He's actually a good writer. He just loves so much screwing with us. Who knows why. Maybe it's a parody of True Art Is Incomprehensible.

@Elfive: He might be doing it on purpose, but doing something on purpose doesn't make it better. It might've been an intentional decision, but I still think that focusing so much on the alpha kids while pushing the original cast to the side wasn't an optimal decision.

I like Jane's character, I don't see how it's not really existent.

As for the accent, it's probably because Nanna was raised by Sassacre Clemens.

But wouldn't it make more sense for Dave to have a southern accent? He's from Texas, for crying out loud!

@Adric: Specifically, he's from Houston, though. I have a few friends from Texas and they don't have noticeable accents at all (aside from a tendency to say 'what all', as in 'what all are you up to?').

Makes sense. I mean, I'm from Florida (up in the panhandle, close to the border with Alabama) and I have no southern accent (I can do a mean impression of one, though).

I just think she has a character beyond just being teen romance drama incarnate, I don't know how to really explain that further.

@Raichu: I think Ami wants you to list off what characteristics of Jane's you think are significant and also unrelated to her love life.

She has a character, but she's indubitably the least developed out of the eight kid plus four main trolls.

Get's me to thinking, is she less developed than Tavros, Sollux, and Aradia?

Aradia, depends on whether you're of the opinion that her transformations do or do not count as genuine character development. Tavros, eh, all he gets is his post-death Vriska flipoff. Sollux is a tool.

At least Jane has more character than Feferi...and Feferi has more character than the 10 pre-scratch trolls not named Aranea or Meenah.

There was kind of a foundation of characterization laid for Jane early on, but then all of that got ignored in favour of teen drama before anything interesting was done with it.

More significant, perhaps, is that she's definitely got the weakest 'voice' in the cast, which matters a lot more than you'd think. It's something that Hussie definitely works to emphasize elsewhere- both sets of trolls all have very distinctive speech patterns even if you ignore the quirks, as do Jake, Roxy, the Cherubs, the Beta kids and most of the Carapacians.

This is why it's significant to me that Jane stops doing the 'Hoo hoo hoo' laugh after A6A1- it's one of things that her voice could've grown out of, but was instead just kind of ignored and then quietly dropped.

But, I mean, the problem with Act 6 is not the fact that it pushed the established cast into the sidelines in favour of new characters. That's exactly what Act 5 did, after all. And the fact that the main story is now being told in the intermissions is just not very important except for meta reasons.

I guess it's kind of like a more localized version of Franchise Original Sin. Back when we introduced the Trolls and sidelined the humans, it was a dynamic turn that shook everything up and gave us new great characters, but when it happened to the Alpha kids some people see it as an annoying diversion from the main story.

However, the Trolls did help to broaden the cast and give us a wealth of interesting characters. The Beta kids are just 4 people strong, so leaving them to focus on new characters wasn't as base breaky. but now that the cast has increased and given more depth, pausing the story to focus on new characters isn't as lauded as it was in Act 5. We have the kids, and their fans wanted to see what they would get up to more than they did with the Alphas. This isn't universal. The Alphas still have a ton of people invested in them, and others still think the trolls are overhyped, so *shrugs*

It kind of reminds me about Young Justice when that show was airing. Lots of characters, maybe too many... in season 1. Season 2 definitely had way too many plots and characters to juggle, and then it added more with the Reach plot in addition to the light. Zatanna, Rocket, Red Arrow, Kid Flash all got demoted and they just couldn't fit with the plot, whilst Wonder Girl and Tim Drake were just pointless. The show bit off more than it could chew, and wasted a good amount of potential trying to shake up the status quo. It's sad really.

I'd argue that the problem is, well, just what I said it was before- the Alpha kids aren't as strongly characterized. So we're content to spend time meeting the trolls because they're all unique and colourful characters, the Alphas just make one want to go back to following the characters we already know instead these vaguely uninteresting weirdos.

I mean, notice that negative statements against the Alpha kids usually include a qualifier along the lines of 'except for Roxy, she's cool'. She's the only one whose characterization is up to snuff.

Oh yeah, I agree. I was just saying that the characterization issue is a factor in the original sins of the franchise.

Roxy is the best. She's got the personal arc that sticks out the most, the one most motivated to meet her dancestor, her personality is the most fleshed out, and her color is a good shade of pink, none of this fuchsia crap. Hell of all the Alphas I actually care about her Ship.

Well we're back to the ususal problem of Homestuck. Too many characters to properly use.

Nepeta was Miss Unrelevant until recently.

Eridan is forgotten.

Sollux is dicking around in the afterlife, his half-dead version is half-forgotten half-whatdoyoumeantherewasahalfdeadsollux.

And Erisol is lost somewhere in paradox space.

Feferi had potential to be a Nightmare Fetishist Genki Girl royalty character which sounded awesome but got killed.

Jade has been Demoted to Extra and is sleeping out of the loop.

Jake is considered a fool and only good to use for shitty teen drama episodes.

Jane was brainwashed for most of the recent years.

Courtyard Droll was last seen dicking around with trickster hats.

Aradia possibly had the strangest-and-coolest personality of the trolls, going from depressive ghost girl to goth fairy, but was sent on a bus to heaven.

And there are 10 pre-scratch trolls who are so irrelevant I'm sure most people forgot their names.

And the worst thing is that Karkat has been knocked out and sleeping offscreen for months. I just hope he doesn't become irrelevant to the battle, otherwise his character arc is useless.

Why do people hate the alpha trolls? Sure, they're irrelevant to the story, but Hussie gave us a truckload of Fanfic Fuel with those characters and you're being ungrateful little assholes about it.
