wild mass guessI'm pretty damn sure the ending of the game, or the next game's ending, or whenever it happens, will feature Joey and Jude's deaths. we never saw them in HS, after all. I wouldn't be surprised if they died during the apocalypse at the beginning of the kids' game. well, unless they get saved at the end because apparently you can play Hiveswap without reading Homestuck so Hussie doesn't want to tie too much stuff together and prefers to have them go to another universe, but I doubt it'll happen.wild mass guess

I think they can live without having shown up in Homestuck - it's not implausible that the stuff from the credit just doesn't show them.

well, of course. I don't hope they die. I'm just saying, Hussie is known for developing interesting characters and then killing them off. don't say I didn't warn you if by any chance it happens.

I disappeared for a month because the worst thing in my life happened, a personal tragedy, which among other things also led to a change in where I'm living.

Also, uh. I accidentally unsubscribed from the thread at some point, that was also a lot of it.

Raichu if you're binging to catch up and reading this, don't cast revive and bring it up in the thread again, just PM me if you want to talk.

Pfffhahahahah okay.

Heh. I don't whine, but I grant I sometimes complain. At length. Also, hah, irony.

And that juggalo post was uncomfortable and I stopped reading it partway through. I uh. Sheesh.

Anyways, hi everybody, it's, well, something to be back.

[up][up] I don't need a warning - I know full well Hussie's habits. But really, none of the major characters ever really stayed dead, and Homestuck itself had a happy ending (Caliborn shenanigans aside - I'm going to assume that that all worked out). Plus, I think this is supposed to be rather disconnected from Homestuck proper, so I doubt the game's going to end with our heroes dying via meteor.

Anyway, I was under the impression that Hussie wasn't the main writer for Hiveswap?

I'm pretty sure he's writing it and Hussie's okaying it and guiding the story. Like he'll say X characters go here and Cohen will be the one coming up with why and showing what happens there. And I guess Hussie'll also be the one coordinating lore.

I know this is more the topic of the other thread at the moment, but i'm amazed just how little I care about Hiveswap. The ending was just so, hollow. I got no closure from it at all, and somehow the epilogue and snapchats just felt like tearing the wound open further. Everything I've heard about it rubs me the wrong way. The NINE TEEZ KIDZ A E S T H E T I C, the GAY SINGULARITY 2 promise, even the art style just reminds me of Double Fine's fall to mediocrity and Legacy living.

The gay singularity is kinda silly to think about, since it was, what? Rosemary still being canon and Davekat being not exactly confirmed but then confirmed out of the comic?

When Hussie already introduced a whole species that was predominantly bi/pan?

Which, uh. Should probably be plenty gay for whatever gay threshold anyone wants in Hiveswap, I mean just speaking statistically a half of concupiscent troll romances would be M/M or F/F, assuming equal gender presence. (There could be abberrances, like Kanaya, but they wouldn't lean in any one direction, just cancel each other out if anything.)

For some reason I had morphed the 'fascism tweet' to be a promise about a new gay singularity. I think I might've accidentally merged my complaint with the snapchats with my complaint about that whole fiasco and made some sort of 2nd gay singularity. I don't have a whole lot of room in my head for homestuck critiques, sometimes chocolate gets in peanut butter.

I presume a whole lot of gay pairings in one place (or comic, as the case may be).

Hiveswap's aesthetics look nice, but nothing about it so far interests me. Joey's adorable, but Jude Xefros, and the rest I'm just not too fond of the designs of. Not much of a reveal on plot.

As for pairings, I was always under the impression that the game would feature romanceable options since there was a confirmation of multiple Story Paths IIRC. But with the story having to follow on from the episodes I don't expect that to be to big of a factor.

I also think Trizza/Joey Foe Yay would be neat. But then again I don't expect Trizza to survive.

Maybe one pathway will involve turning her good.

The short answer is it's a reference to a tweet Hussie made after a popuar cartoon ended on an implied gay pairing, claiming Homestuck would have a gay singularity.

Which, uh, sometimes gets contentious as an element of Homestuck's ending stretch (largely due to Davekat, I think) but really wasn't a thing that actually happened (unless I missed something), so uh, it was probably just a joke.

Yeah we all know where it was from.

And yes the Gay Singularity thing was said in jest. Outside of Rosemary it's mostly just a bunch of F/F, M/M Ship Tease. Which is fine. It get's the shippers to have a few footholds should they want to make some fanfics or fan-endings for themselves. Jane/Roxy fans got thrown a bone, Calliope/Roxy fans got thrown a bone, and we still don't know shit about Dirk/Jake. Did they or didn't they?

In my fan canon they did.

just a quick aside to anyone who was thinking of picking up gravity rush 2, don't. It's shit. They learned absolutely nothing between games. it has all the problems of the original and quite a few more. It's the most disappointing game I've played in quite some time, and it's only compounded by how apparently both yakuza 0 and re7 are phenomenal and I passed them up for this.

The game's camera is nauseatingly bad. The game has no lock on which makes combat ridiculously more difficult than it needs to be and makes it borderline impossible to dodge projectiles because the game has no indicator of offscreen attacks, and instead relies on a 'soft' lock on that targets whatever enemy is in your line of sight, even when they're not in range or are actually an ally. That's not getting into the story which has pages worth of problems, but I don't want to get that out of my system quite yet.

Cohen is his first name. Edenfield is his last. (I'm guessing that may be a point of confusion because Cohen is more commonly a last name?)

Addendum: Wait, when were the canon fantrolls ever on Alternia? They got Cherubsploded in Universe C by Caliborn's dad and...?

They are... or at least, at some point, were, slated to be in Hiveswap. There was concept art in one of the kickstarter updates, see here: [1]. And here [2] for their appearance in Universe C, in case anyone else was curious about that.

well, of course. I don't hope they die. I'm just saying, Hussie is known for developing interesting characters and then killing them off. don't say I didn't warn you if by any chance it happens.
This theory/idea is one I really don't think is likely, and that I don't really like either. I'm not saying that neither of them will die whatsoever during the course of the story, but having them killed off right at the end by some meteor apocalypse after a fifteen year timeskip won't happen because that requires Homestuck knowledge to understand — it'd be such random bullshit for Hiveswap players who have never read Homestuck — and having them killed off offscreen would be amazingly shitty. I'm just gonna quote my theory from where I posted it elsewhere for more extended reasoning for all this (a bit lengthy, sorry about that):

    Hiveswap theory
I'm proposing that our protagonists in Hiveswap will escape their impending apocalyptic doom by using the cherub portals to go to Earth C.

Evidence as follows:

The canon fantrolls are somehow present on both Alternia and in Universe C. I don't think that the two fantrolls are universal constants, so that leaves two options. They're either:

  • 1) The exact same trolls who we see at differing points along their personal timelines, or...
  • 2) Two pairs of related trolls. We saw the pair in Universe C get obliterated, and neither were stylised in the way that adult trolls always are, meaning that even with the Alternian empire's strategy of fuck-or-die upon reaching sexual maturity, these two wouldn't have contributed any genetic material to the mother grub. Therefore this option would mean that the pair in Universe C are descended from the pair on Alternia.

The very obvious cherubic imagery associated with the portals presents a strong tie to Lord English and, obviously, cherubs as a whole. At least one character in Hiveswap itself seems to suspect Doc Scratch of being in cahoots with Trizza Tethis, and both Universes A and B are essential parts of the Lord English master timeloop leading to his creation. Additionally, this image seems to indicate some relation to Caliborn and Calliope specifically. (Though admittedly that's pretty flimsy. I can't for the life of me recall when this was actually released, or what exactly I'm looking at, other than some kind of cherub-y thing.) ((Editor's note: it's from this video))

Tying all this back to the previous point about the canon fantrolls, how could they possibly get to Universe C? Moreover, there's a third universe involved in the Lord English master loop; the one he was actually born in. Given that all three of these universes are tied together in this way, it would make sense that a portal with connections to Lord English which allows people to travel between Universe A and Universe B would also (perhaps through some Shenanigans) allow travel to Universe C.

Now, there's also the matter of the other, more obvious means of surviving a SBURB-induced meteor apocalypse; actually playing a SBURB session. This doesn't really seem all that likely to me for a couple of reasons. While we've seen that there's no actual restriction on who can play SBURB in terms of age, (see: fedorafreak) it's outright stated that the game seems to prefer that the players be kids on the cusp of maturity. By the time SkaiaNet's version of SBURB is published, Joey and Jude will be in their mid-20s.

Additionally, SBURB isn't exactly a walk in the park. I get the definite impression that by the time Hiveswap and Hauntswitch are through, they'll have gone through more than enough traumatic shit for one lifetime. It would kind of suck as a resolution if they then were plunged into the neverending whirlwind of bullshit that is SBURB.

Then, SBURB as an escape method also totally screws over Joey and Jude's newfound troll friends. This may be a nonissue depending on what's done about the portals in the actual games. Finally, there's the fact that Homestuck is not required reading for Hiveswap. Dropping SBURB on the players out of nowhere right at the end would completely contradict that intent, and would be stupid and confusing. [insert joke about act 7 here]

Moving on from that particular angle, there's also less concrete reasons I think that this is how they'll escape their respective civilisations' doom. Namely, how great it'd be for Joey and Jude to actually get to meet the rest of their family. And this is the Homestuck universe, so of course both of them are gonna have issues and hangups relating to their parents. They can maybe get some catharsis by meeting Jake (and maybe Jade, to a certain extent) and finding out why the hell their dad ditched them. Somewhat similarly to Dave and the Striunion. Either way, that'd be some good shit, IMO. It seems like a really good opportunity.

TLDR; the Hiveswap characters will use the cherub portals that got them into this universeswapping mess to escape from their multiple impending dooms and over to Earth C.

As an aside, is there gonna be a Hiveswap thread in the video games subforum, or will discussion be kept in this thread?
