Venonat isn't a caterpillar though.
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone else... well, I have no idea what I said beyond just personally disapproving the Venonat was supposed to evolve into Butterfree theory.
Opponent saved it, might as well just showcase me... making dumb mistakes. Tapu Bulu is good though.
You're lying to yourself if you seriously think butterfree doesn't look more like a natural progression to Venonat than Venomoth does.
TBH yeah, Venonat looks exactly like Butterfree's head with arms and legs.
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseI love the idea of a Dragonite regional variant that looks more like Dratini and Dragonair. It could be Dragon/Water, or maybe Dragon/Fairy.
...I actually drew something like that a year or two back, but I don’t feel like finding it now.
I think I recall hearing somewhere that the Venomnat/Venomoth lines and the Caterpie/Metapod/Butterfree lines got a little mixed up somewhere. That might explain Butterfree looking like it should be Venomnat's evo.
One Strip! One Strip!Butterfree absolutely does not look like it would evolve from Venonat, because butterflies come from caterpillars, silly.
That's just a fan theory.
Like my theory that Burmy -> Mothim was going to be a male counterpart to Combee -> Vespiquen, but then they added Wormadam later in development.
Of course, a gnat becoming a moth is just as nonsensical.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Mothim/Wormadam was always like that, I'm sure. They're bagworms.
Heart of StoneI'm pretty sure he actually meant he believes Mothim and Vespiquen were supposed to act like what Nidoking and Nidoqueen do, not its opposite gender form.
I've always wondered if there was official word with regards to the fan-assumed "venomoth/butterfree" switch like how "Ditto isn't Mew's failed clone"
Death is a companion. We should cherish Death as we cherish Life., What I meant is that I think the Burmy line was originally just going to be Burmy and Mothim, with only males evolving at all, just like how only female Combee evolve into Vespiquen, but then they added in the whole bagworm gimmick and gave it a female evolution in Wormadam that puts said gimmick to good use.
They were both honey tree prizes, after all, so they have that in common.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I don't see how you could 'add in' the 'bagworm gimmick' when being a bagworm is literally the only thing Burmy has. You can't have Burmy without being a bagworm, since there's nothing to Burmy aside from being a bagworm.
It's like trying to have Butterfree without the 'butterfly gimmick' or Meowth without the 'cat gimmick'.

I meant the different coat flavors.
The bagworm gimmick of sticking things around itself, not the bagworm gimmick of being a bagworm.
But I think you knew that.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! Why is Kyurem-B good in Doubles when its only spread move is Icy Wind?
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseThat's the one with Assault Vest.
That's not the point I was trying to make.
All of its usable moves are single-target moves, so why is it good in Doubles?
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseIcy Wind is chosen for lowering the opponents' speed, not for its power. That's something that a doubles player would refer it as speed control.

Tons of popular Pokemon hit single-target too. Kangaskhan, Incineroar, Tapu Fini. As long as you pick up a KO, and/or support your team, you're good.
Where there's life, there's hope.Ok but why is something like Kyurem-B viable but, say, Dragonite is not?
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseMultiscale, the main reason to use Dragonite over Salamence, isn't nearly as good in an environment where you can be double-targeted.

A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they will never sit in.Dragonite's STAB are mostly useless. Kyurem has higher stats too.
Where there's life, there's hope.Dragonite's just not meant for doubles. It doesn't have a good secondary STAB like Garchomp/Mega Mence and Multiscale doesn't do much.
Kyurem-B works because it can fall back on its high Special Attack to not be Intimidate bait. Sub sets are also fun.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?
Caterpillar doesn't have anything in common with Butterfly, which the former can become. Scatterbug has more in common with Spewpa than Vivillon. I feel like a caterpillar should look different to their butterfly counterpart, not the other way around.
Also, the index number suggests that Caterpie, Metapod, and Butterfree were added at the same time. Venonat was added before the Caterpie line and Venomoth was added after all of them.
