It seems pretty obvious in hindsight that Giratina-O is effectively a mega before they invented Megas.

It sounds sincere enough, but given the timing I'm not entirely willing to believe that it isn't just an April Fool's joke.

I dunno, they appear to be serious about it.

Gira-O also lacks the sheer Stats that make legendary Megas so overkill.

I can't help but feel that I indirectly caused this, as I was in a Smogcast and talked about how me should entertain the idea of testing a some Ubers in OU to help deal with team matchup and centralize the meta a bit (in a healthy way). The Power Creep is that bad.

The line between Megas and Legendaries is blurring. I mean, M-Salamence is up there with Arceus in Ubers viability. I very much like this development. And honestly ORAS OU could do with a bit of centralizing.

It doesn't have a glaring weakness that I can see like Kyurem-B, so this one strikes me as one that won't happen.

Uhhh... what? I mean, Kyurem-B being down in OU means big legendaries can be fine there. And not being able to hold Leftovers seriously hurts its walling potential. But still. But I haven't paid much attention to the ORAS metagame, so maybe it would fit right in.

What concerns me more about this is the precedence. Giratina-O is just Giratina holding a Griseous Orb. It's not too far off from unbanning Blaze Blaziken, Aegislash without King's Shield, or Deoxys-N holding an Iron Ball.

I can sort of see where they're coming from with this, but my gut instinct is to say keep it banned.

It's not that Giratina is too strong (120 in both offensive stats isn't that horribly high by present-day standards, and Giratina-O is restricted to the Griseous Orb), it's that it's too bulky. 150 HP with 100 defensive stats is pretty freaking good, and Giratina actually has a decent defensive typing to back those up (unlike Kyurem), and it's pretty resistant to hazards to boot (it's neutral to Stealth Rock and Levitate makes it immune to Spikes and Toxic Spikes). It can't hold Leftovers and it lacks a good recovery move, though (although Wish support is very much a thing).

Then again, I'm saying this as someone who doesn't actually play. Maybe I'll actually try to get suspect reqs this time and see if my mind changes.
