[up][up][up]Not to mention that it's apparently currently impossible to get that kind of thing into Gen VI without the event.

Ive heard it has in large part to do wth Japan's history of isolationism. I guess it never occurs to the distributors that people outside the country woud like those cool mystery gifts

[up][up][up]At the same time, though, XY's international release indicates some definite awareness of how much of a international thing Pokemon really has become.

I sure said that!

I started playing Firered (yes I'm 10 years behind)

The awesomeness of the original games meets the improved gaming mechanics of later games? Yes Yes Yes.

Leaf Green was the first pokemon game I was actually bored by. But to be fair, I had just finished Emerald.

Kanto just doesn't hold a candle to the other regions.

It does have my favorite Pokemon designs in it. But since I can think of no good reason for this, I'm going to chalk it up to familiarity. I also think that putting the last gym almost where you started, so your whole journey was a literal circle, was kinda nifty. Giovanni's identity was one of the best plot twists in the series.

Other than that, I think it's the worst generation. Balance was a joke (to be fair, it would probably be arrogant to assume their Mons game would attract competitive players and tournaments), glitches pervaded every corner, and it just hasn't aged well.

While I still find Gen 1 overall fun to play, it definitely has its problems. Gen III fixed a lot of them(and Gen II helped as well). Gen IV did a nice job of actual balancing out some other issues, like the Physical/Special split being way better. As for Gen V, one of my favorites since it did remove a lot of the overuse of the HM being a roadblock magnet. On the other hand, it just put more annoying roadblocks in its place, but the story was really good(imo), so it still worked out. Gen VI did some nice balancing too, and gave us the almighty Wonder Trade, as well as an excellent online system that makes it really easy to trade.

Also, the Friend Safari is a huge improvement over the regular Safari Zone design(but what isn't in general?), as being able to directly fight the Pokemon is severely helpful. Things like being able to paralyze/damage it/etc. really makes it far easier to catch the Pokemon. I get why the regular Safari Zone doesn't allow battling, since it's a "nature preserve", although I think only the Anime made this justification, which is actually pretty logical, imo. It is great that a lot of the previous Safari Zone-only Pokemon tend to show up in many other places now, at least. I.E. Chansey. I also felt that they were somewhat easier to catch in HG/SS to a degree. Gen 1 was fairly bad on that. As for Gen III(specifically R/S/E), the whole Pokeblocks usage with the Zone was actually kind of annoying.

I know pokemon fanfic has it's own thread, but could I post the rough outline of my fanfic here to look for an artist? This thread is more active so I think I'm more likely to find someone interested here.

I think the original Red and Blue can be a chore to play because of the very dated gaming mechanics and graphics, but Yellow is still a lot of fun with improved graphics even if the final gym is ridiculously easy, especially if you've captured an Articuno.

I actually grew up more with the gen 2 games so I have a tad bit more fondness for Gold/Silver, Gold in particular because that was the one I played as a kid.

But I think there is a certain fondness for the gen 1 games because I grew up with that era of the show more but the remakes are a huge improvement.

[up] I get Sidetracked a lot with all the innovations in each generation. As such, the only game I've beaten is Yellow, as you could get a full team and to spare without having to make captures. You have to make some captures to get HM 05, but these can easily be rotated out and/or many of them can be used as HM Slaves.

With regards to Ace's two most recent posts:

  • 21: I have to wonder if Yandere!Serena could also be applicable to her non-Anime characterizations. I could see Spe!Y snapping into being one due to the stresses of their specific adventure plus she started the adventure (and ran headlong into Flare's attack) just to snap X out of his Heroic BSoD.
  • 24: Meh... I don't see seasons making a return anytime soon; the pokemon-varies-by-time mechanic is okay when limited to the times of day, but becomes a Scrappy Mechanic when taken Up To Eleven. Still, I'd like to see the Winter sprites make a return on Snow routes at least. Maybe make Summer standard with Spring for Rain routes and Fall for Drought and Sandstorm routes?

Seasons absence breaks one of the coolest gimmicks in the series - I'm not even sure if you can use the other seasons of Sawsbuck at all in Gen VI.

[up][up] I usually just catch a bunch of low-level pokemon in Cerulean and throw them in the box on Bill's PC to get the HM 05. When playing Yellow just between having having Pikachu and level grinding the 3 starters to their 2nd form is 7 Pokemon right there, and I usually have a Butterfree on my party that I evolved from a Caterpie in order to beat Brock.

I would prefer seasons return but only as a cosmetic thing . But if not put Deerling in Kalos proper and make the deerling form fit the climate of the area. All seasons are represented in the Kalis terrain

Probably harder to program every special little change. Rain had no effect on the ground itself compared to the Seasons in Gen V. So they didn't want to do as much work. That's my theory, though.

For Deerling and Sawsbuck, they can easily still follow the Seasons based upon the actual date instead. I mean, their ability is pretty much just Castform's, although in a different way.

[up] Taking one's hemisphere into account as well, of course, which shouldn't be too hard. I mean, if they can tailor your Vivillon pattern to a specific region...
