This has nothing to do with the meta. The answer is pure math. Darius doesn't have anything that scales particularly well with attack speed, but he does have a bunch of moves that scale well with AD. And even the stuff that scales with attack speed scales even better with AD. Therefore he should have AD instead of attack speed.

Building attack speed on Darius is therefore mathematically wrong. It's bad. It's not a crazy experiment that was worth doing, any more than building attack speed on a mage would be. It just means you didn't understand the champion or how their moves were supposed to interact.

I mean, it's perfectly fine to be wrong. I'm not saying you always have to be right. But you should be able to admit when you're wrong and learn from that. Or, more importantly, admit from the beginning that you're not sure what you're doing and follow things like recommended items. Which admittedly are far from perfect but should at least nudge you in the right direction.

[up][up]Darius was used in Worlds, which was before the preseason changes, which shook everything up and made Rageblade broken.

It made the META faster.

Champions like Jax and Irelia hit their powerspike sooner. So now they can keep up with early game champs like Darius, rather than get rolled over early game. Which they still will. But because of the cheap cost of Rageblade, it won't take them long to get back. And by "won't take them long" I mean by about 9 minutes if they CS well.

[up]Clarste get it.

I have yet to get familiar with the new items myself, lol. I was sad when I was playing Sion and realized the ranger's trailblazer was gone and I was like "well what the fuck do I build now"

So I went back to Fiddlesticks support because I was tired of being Braum.

Well, I'd ask why you were building a Ranger's Trailblazer in the first place. Sion didn't have problems clearing [lol]

And what do you build on Sion now? Stalker's or the Warding one.

Your options now for Sion are:

  • Stalker's for the Chilling smite.
  • Helping your team with the Sightstone jungling item.

Also, I just had a bit of Fridge Brilliance.

Riot removed Feral Flare, but now it's back, just split into two things.

Tracker's Knife is the Wards, and Devourer is the Killing.

One of the reasons meta exists is because most people don't have the time to invest in trying/thinking new ways of making a champion work, the meta gives those players a relatively safe idea of what to do.

Doing things out of the meta is not bad BUT you have to invest the time to think why, how and when it would work what you want to do. To be able of doing that you neeed to first have a good understanding not only of the champion you are playing but also from the ítems, the enemies champions and your team composition. That is something that if you are new to the game you will lack because there are more than a hundred champions, a lot of ítems and then you have to take into account the permutations of compositon and ítems.

If you like a champion but don't like the meta way it is played, my recomendation is to go to a guide site (in the order goolge search displayed them to me: lol King, mobafire, lol pro, probuilds, solomid, lol class, You Tube), search for one that is updated and read why, when, against who the build works, ítem and skill order and if the guide has is it, a match up section (you can use the loading time to guess your enemy match up and quickly check if there is any trick on the laning phase). Also, most guides write the reasoning and some put the numbers of the choices shown, that will be better tan us trying to explain why x stat/ítem don't work in y champion.

One can basically shove all of the champs in the jungle. But they need to be properly built for this. Improper building on anything is not going to yield much of a result.

Also I built trailblazer on Sion for the Aura thing.

Trailblazer has no aura. Are you talking about Cinderhulk? Which you can buy on any of the jungle items?

Yeah. I just mix up the names and don't remember it. Maybe that is why it did not show up when I searched for it in the first place.

Go me

Lost that game anyways. The Katarina fed their jungler like crazy.

In the same boat as BSN and Joaqs. The meta is established because it's the most optimal and thus the simplest/easiest way to play the game. You can break the meta if you want, but it can come at a bit of difficulty because you need to know what you're doing in order to make it work. Because of that, I would actually recommend newcomers stick to the meta initially, just to gain on-hands experience and thus an understanding of how the game is played before you start trying to experiment.

It also ties into the whole bit of trying to have fun. Sure, there's nothing wrong with that, but this genre is extremely team-oriented. You've got 4 other people trying have to fun and win as well (zero-toxicity scenario, naturally). You might be having fun, but it's not fun for me if you feed the enemy team and thus make it harder for me to handle them.

And I assume you want to win because, well, why wouldn't you? I mean, I can have fun in a game where I lost, but that doesn't mean I like losing. Only way I can see someone actually enjoy a loss is if that person was actively trying to lose, and that's just straight trolling.

I generally use Statikk Shiv to soften up the minion waves by shocking 3 of them for damage. I noticed that Darius had an slow autoattack speed, so I improved it because of his passive and to kill the turrets ASAP. I know Darius is AD exclusive and I'm kind of overwhelmed by the number of items and the effects that they provide and I only have so much time to buy something or we'll lose. I'm not really sure what is the meta beyond who goes where.

Well, that's what the recommended items are for. You won't go too wildly wrong if you just buy those all the time.

As for "Darius has slow attacks, therefore I want to speed them up", that's generally a wrong way to approach things. You usually want to emphasize a champion's strengths, not downplay their weaknesses (especially since attack speed increases by percentage: you get less value out of it because he's slow). Otherwise you'd be buying AD on all mages, which is stupid. Darius is sort of what used to be known as an "AD Caster", in that he has skills that rely on AD scaling but doesn't care too much about his auto-attack.

Well here's a good hint on why you don't need Attack Speed to take towers faster or get rid of minions.

His W refills the mana it uses if you get a unit killed (Minion or champion) and halves the cooldown, making it an effective wave clearing tool, especially when you get one CDR item. Plus it's bonus AD for autoattacks means you'll be chunking towers with just a little bit of AD in your build. Far more than what Attack Speed can provide.

Speaking of guides, is Darius really this OP?

I've tried the E>W>make em' bleed>politically correct R combo, but the enemy barely survives. (I guess I mistimed the E.) I'm mainly curious about the Champion matchups.

Darius is very OP, I have fought against him a lot of times. I have sometimes begged to switch lanes when he was my top lane opponent. But he is OP only if you you use him correctly and build him to his advantages with means no statikk shiv! Use it for assassins or AD Cs or when you're a more experienced player that actually knows what they're doing, by not now and not on Darius.

Used correctly he is an unstoppable and uncrushable slab of meat and rage that, even if he does build tanky, can brutalize you in mere hits and laugh off your attempts to stop him

Yes that's a good train of thought Rabid, but you can use your W and a Hydra to reset your auto attack artificially increasing your attack speed for a few attacks while also getting waveclear from the hydra's passive and active. So for what your trying to build with the shiv you can do by using an active on an item that Darius can use all the stats on compared to only half on the shiv.

Yep, Darius w reset his attack timer like Wukong's q. A nice trick is doing an auto attack and inmediatly pressing w for Darius (q for Wukong) for another auto with the effect of the skill.

Speaking f which, how good is Wukong right now?

Speaking of the meta, I've been toying around with my teemo build. So far, initial tests suggest Rageblade works well on him, but I haven't properly stress tested it yet to see how it compares to standard.

Or alternatively, don't be dependent on softening up minions. Learn the right time to last hit and only hit when you're trying to last hit. That will eliminate the need of Statikk Shiv's softening up. In fact, usually a newbie mistake is that they are so obsessed in hitting the minions without last hitting, you don't get money and you expose yourself to be poked or getting an all-in to death.

Because sometimes it's best if you get pushed to the tower and you play defensive. Maybe your jungler would come and help for gank that way.
