I just realized I forgot to post...

My entry for the J2 big bang fanfic challenge.

For those who don't want to try and wade through 20k+ words all at once, I've also broken it down into a 7 parter on WFB (at the bottom of each part is a link to the next).

Hope someone finds it worth putting up on the fanfic rec page. (lol yes I aim high in my dreams) Enjoy, all.

Okay, finally caught up with the series to date.

It's a wonderful show with a few bad seasons and episodes.

This past season was promising for a while but fell apart at the end. Kind of upsetting. The whole series has felt really rehashy (and kind of absurd) for a while now anyway, unfortunately, but I guess there's only so many new things they can come up with. I miss when the monsters of the week were creatures with a basis in folklore, instead of mostly being demigods of some sort.

Also, that Ho Yay page. Does it honestly include every single interaction the characters have had? It's kind of frightening.

And dear god, when did Sam and Dean become such unlikeable dicks?

And if I claim to be a wise man, well, it surely means that I don't know.

The whole series should have ended by Season 5. They keep dragging it by the hair ever since, and it really shows.

And yeah. The Ho Yay page includes every single time Dean blinked at the general direction of Castiel's trench coat. Just roll with it. Also, incest. note

Yeah, I've been pretending that seasons one through five are the real story and everything after that is the bad sequel.

I'm assuming the Wincest stuff is dying out because holy crap they are enormous assholes.

The "Wincest stuff" has been slowly dying ever since Castiel showed-up. For obvious reasons. Why it was ever a thing, is beyond me.

And yeah, the brothers have become increasingly unlikable over the years. Badly-acted too. Not because the actors are bad. But because it's clear they've become tired with the repetitive & subpar script.

Death to the old gods, you mean? Or all gods?

Sam's at least pretty decent still. Dean, though? Just ugh. And the show is acting like he's right.

Like that time Dean called Sam out, and blamed him for not having a soul that one time, even though it wasn't Sam's fault, and we were later shown that Soulless Sam was practically a saint compared to other soulless folk.

I've only gotten as far as the end of Season 2, so the only person I've seen be well ans truly a dick is their dad. I mean some of Deans decisions later on were kinda iffy, but he was at least being relatively nice about it.

I'm getting the impression that if I do ever get back to it I'll want to stop at season 5.

Eh, you can, keep on, but you can just consider the series as having two possible endings.

It occurs to me that this series is dangerously close to having as many frustrating seasons as there are good ones, if not more. For some series, I might suggest that as reason to not watch a series. However, with this, I feel I do recommend it, in part because of the convenient stopping point at season 5, if one so chooses, and in part because one of the bigger problems with seasons 6-9 is that they're heavy on rehashing, but if one likes certain things, they may find they like more of it. Also, when the series has good episodes even in bad seasons, they can be pretty enjoyable. Heck, for some of the more Monster of the Week-ish stand alone episodes, one could just skip the standard "last three minutes heart-to-heart that anviliciously compares the episode to the arc's narrative", and pretend it takes place in a more convenient season.

I heard Supernatural is getting an 11th season.

The premiere seems to be getting excellent ratings on various review sites, but for me it was incredibly boring and difficult to pay attention to. It's more of what the previous season established.

I will say that I hate how the writers have forgotten (or chosen to ignore) the fact that Sam is supposed to be the better hunter. They can't help but put him into positions where he is knocked-out/captured. It's rather pathetic and even more demonstrative of the lack of care they put into his character compared to Dean.

[up]Concurred on both accounts. The episode was just an introduction to this season's aspects: Dean is a demon but, if anything, he's less crazy than last season; he works with Crowley because why the hell not at this point; some guy is hunting Dean for whatever reason. Otherwise it was really unremarkable.

And yes, Sam has been consistently put in positions where Dean has to save him for a long, long time now.

I always got the impression that Sam was them ore intelligent and prepared hunter, but Dean had a better knack/head for the Feild Work aspect, on account of having more experience?

Well, I stopped after S2, so I dunno. Maybe they change that up later on.

Their dynamic changes a lot sometime after season two. After a while, Sam stops considering returning to college and wanting a normal life, and he jumps headlong into the hunting thing. And Dean becomes more serious post-season three.

[up][up]With one exception, every time Sam is on his own he does exceptionally well. And that exception was him deciding to settle down instead of hunt.

And to be fair, this time Sam is at least handicapped, what with his arm being in a sling.

Looks like Sam was left out of the loop with regards to Dean's new Demon status.

They could have just discussed Dean's new changes to Sam.

But that would be the smart, non-dramatic option.

And God forbid they choose that option straight away.

I'm surprised Dean still needs to drive. I thought Demons could teleport.

I know the nerfed Angels can't teleport anymore, but the Demons don't have that nerf.

Well that actually seems like a fairly Dean thing to do. I can see him driving around even with the ability to teleport just for the sake of the drive.

And I was pretty bored by this episode.

Not all demons can teleport. They've never nailed down the rules but it seems to fit best that it's a power that takes time and effort to learn (and probably drawn from the angel side of the family).

In fact, very few can. Really, only the tops. Even from the beginning, we knew that demons with meatsuits generally used traditional means of transportation.

Just how strong were angels in the first place? Did Castiel solo his way into Hell? Dean would have to be pretty deep, considering he was Azazel's project, needed for the apocalypse plan, and monitored by Alistair, who Castiel couldn't beat.

Once upon a time angels were THE powerhouse of the show, but supposedly I think it was hinted that Cas had a lot of backup when he went to fetch Dean.

I also liked to think that the whole reason Dean spent 3 months/30 years was because that was how long it took Cas to fight his way there and get him.

And yes, Cas went to pick up John, but John's like, "Nah I'm good" and gave Caas a high five. XD

EDIT: Obscurus Lupa & Phelus do a podcast on 10.01. It's funny because around the 30 min mark they bring up the same idea Willow had (way back) as to who should be the new arc villain. XD

Castiel said that he was part of a group of Angels who went to retrieve Dean. He said they (the Angels) 'laid siege' to Hell and took quite a number of casualties in the process.
