Alright, I'm currently taking a break from the game at the moment (doing a fresh install) and started reading wotlabs. and this is why arty ruins the game

Guess who wrote it?

You'll see that, the closer you get to the top 1% of the server, the more commonality you'll see in Garbad's complaints among blueberries and grapes. In games like Wo T, there's a balance between skill and chance, and for many, artillery just skews things more toward chance, and they don't like that.

Plus getting dropped down to less than 25% Hitpoints in one hit, without any means to counter, will make ANYONE rage. Heck, I've raged, and I'm just a blue player, and the skill difference between a blue and a purple is staggering.

I frankly don't give a shit about rank. I enjoy the obsessive top ranks raging and throwing a fit. It amuses me.

That knuckle head needs to do his history homework a lot better. Mobile Artillery not historical? I guess the M7 Priest is a figment of my fevered dreams.

New plan. Just to piss off guys like that. Put MLRS vehicles in the game. Watch the butt hurt explode.

Finally got it working! (was missing a number)

The official forums have an emoticon for it.

I love arty, because I love the rage. Also, most of these "top players" make it really really easy - even Jingles made the point in one of his recent compilation videos: if two of you have been plugged by arty in the same spot, and you still sit there static with your thumb up your arse...maybe it isn't arty that's the problem? Maybe you are aren't as good at internet tanks as you thought you were?

Garbad's a nasty individual anyway. Wishing AIDS and cancer on people who outplay him, and regurgitating all his nonsense about the Eastern Front. Prick.

If the actions of sports stars teach us anything, it's that being 'good' at a, game shouldn't make your opinion any more valued.

As for arty, it serves a purpose. It balances the odds and punishes those who dint account for it. It also allows for more flexibility, and gives scouts something to do besides run like hell when they find something.

The complaints about it are almost like if chess masters complained about the knight being able to jump units.

Garbad sounds like a brainless prick, and, while it's annoying to get oneshot by something you can't see, it just means you have to, you know, not stand in the open all the time...

Jingles is popular because he makes good videos and makes good points on how to play, even though he's not a super-uber-mega-unicum.

Garbad is popular because he says what people want to hear, makes good points on how to play, and he's a unicum.

Just because Garbad doesn't like arty and is blunt about it doesn't mean that he is a bad person. He has quite a few guides up on different tanks and does different challenges that are helpful, so if you notice him complaining about arty just skim past it to the good stuff.

Also there are people who hate arty more than him who have recently been advocating TKing arty players. Here is his response to that sort of activity, it might surprise you.

You'll see that, the closer you get to the top 1% of the server, the more commonality you'll see in Garbad's complaints among blueberries and grapes. QFT

Also sitting in the back waiting to reload and have the shell miss is really boring, as well as limiting how much I can carry my team. Also there isn't as much comparatively to learn in arty as opposed to other tank classes.

I'm just your average potato (IIRC. Not totally clear on those terms), I've tried arty and found it boring, but honestly? While getting oneshot by arty is annoying, you curse a little and move on. WoT is a game and making it Serious Business is silly.

The long reload times and shoddy accuracy suck but artillery has a place. No one person should ever carry the team or seek to do so. There is a world of difference in making sure you at least try to support the team by attempting to play smartly and trying to be Rambo.

As for learning there is plenty to learn for arty. Positioning is important for arty. Not only is the right spot crucial for the turretless arty but being far enough forward that you have wide coverage. The Right spot also determines what cover you are limited by. Knowing when to pack it in and move to cover a new angle is important. Knowing which tanks are most likely to be in the lead and what spot is the most trouble and worth covering is important. Learning how to lead not only enemy targets but how to effectively track the lead elements where some extra firepower is needed. Knowing when is a good time to adjust position and how much to minimize artillery reticle issues is also important.

Artillery is support. It is the reason enemy tanks button up behind rocks and cover limiting enemy movement. No one wants to be caught in the open or tracked by arty.

Then you meet monstrosities like the Conqueror GC and its satellite bombardment-esque shell arc (near vertical, making ANY cover useless).

That said, I'm less annoyed at artillery players picking me out just because I happen to be blue (makes me wish I had some scrub camo left, but alas), than when I managed to get tagged and one-hit while moving at max acceleration in a speedy med.

What tier is that arty?

I fully expect reasonably skilled arty to be able to at least get close hits with the target going full tilt. Tell you what if I had been shooting at you and pegged you like that I would have ecstatic as arty.

It might have been pure dumb luck. More then a few times before I sold my arty off to finance another tank I was firing 3-5 shells on full focus for just one direct non-kill hit.

The GC is the tier X UK arty. Most UK arty have near-vertical shell arcs by the way, which makes them a pain in tiers 8 and up.

And getting hit while moving full-tilt is more common than you think. Can't count the number of times that I get tagged in my T-54 while trying to move to a better position, though I suppose my color tag makes me a HUGE target of importance anyway.

My experiences have been different but I rarely encounter anything higher then tier 7 in my tanks. I have seen several shells fall short as I am zipping around cover. However I have noticed that on teams with three or more arty it is not uncommon to wind up shooting at the same high value targets. That seems to almost always yield at least one direct hit or very near hit.

Conqueror GC is just slightly badly balanced. I regularly encounter someone using that SPG (and has the username Conqueror GC - he's a unicum too; of course, he uses other tanks lol) but it's not exactly a very OP one (especially since his WR is still around 59-60%).

It's only really at its most deadly in Clan Wars. And it seems barely anyone that regularly posts here has a clan, or has a clan that regularly plays CW.

@eldritch no, he's a 'bad person' for other things. Among them a worrying amount of fanboyism for Nazi Germany(including counting civilians killed by them to prove their better kill/death ratio), and wishing death and disease against many he plays with. He's not a nice guy.

[up] we were throwing the idea of troper clan around awhile ago but it never amounted to much. And I've ended up attached to the clan I've been in for awhile but only lately been active. We do strongholds and tournaments but don't really have the manpower or will for constant clan wars presence.

As for the conquerer GC, while useful in organized play, it's actually not that great in pubs, having roughly a 46 percent overall win rate last I checked.

Edit- looked again these days it's running 54 percent win rate. I think we know the nerf bats next victim.

[up][up] I'm in a clan, but we're a bit too newbish for CW. We mostly do tier 6 skirmishes, and not much of those since our clan head disappeared a while back.
