I liked the Darkrai movie as well, but after that they all went downhill.

The movies still come out annually in theaters in Japan, and they do it to promote the legendaries of course, so unless Japanese theaters don't want them anymore they'll keep making them.
In the U.S. the movies stopped coming out in theaters after the 5th, the last Johto movie, aside from special airings of the others in brief events. Imagine if pokemon still had annual movies in theaters for 20 years in the U.S. like Japan, with Pokemon movies competing against stuff like all the current Marvel, DC and Star Wars movies? lol.

I mean, they'd be competing against all the Spider-Man movies, the X-Men movies, the DC movies that aren't the Dark Knight Trilogy, and the Star Wars prequels.
Let's see if you can get past my Beelzemon. Mephiles, WARP SHINKA!The first 3 movies came out in 1999, 2000, and 2001 respectively in the U.S. The first Spiderman movie didn't even come out till 2002. Although the first X-men film came out in 2000.
The pokemon movies came out right before the whole comic book superhero movie genre really kicked off. Although Star Wars Episode 1 also came out in 1999. But still there wasn't that much competition at the time for kids movies, although I might be forgetting what popular Disney movies came out those years.
>even more companions for Ash (including one who is supposedly a special Pokemon in disguise),
Wait is he really getting a Haramguru as a rival fucking seriously
...Haramguru?
Harambe + Oranguru
And Harambe is...?
The whole 'Lillie is Ultra Beast-01 in disguise' thing.

Having looked up what the whole 'Harambe' thing is, I have to ask:
Why are people giving an orangutan the name of a gorilla?
I at least called him Lanky Kong!
A corpse should be left well enough alone...No worse than DONKEY Kong anyway.
New preview scan ahoy!◊
And there's one section dedicated to Ash specifically◊.
If people still insist that Ash might still maintain his XY&Z persona to Sun & Moon and that I should not preemptively judge a book by the cover, I do wonder why they are hiding the Badass XY Ash within this character if that is the case. Would be nice to see him act like one outside of the Z-ring promotion just to balance out the comedic pictures I see currently.
Oh and we got summaries from Dephender:
Starts November 2016!!
Its name is... Pocket Monsters Sun & Moon
The new Pocket Monsters anime starts soon!! In November, the Pokémon anime undergoes a renewal! What kind of adventure will it turn into next!?
The new adventure is filled with comedy!! Being in a new place for the first time makes Ash tense up... or not. There's no time for that when a slapstick adventure opens up before him!
The setting is a Pokémon School!! Ash enrolls in a school! Here he'll learn and have fun together with Pokémon: No matter what the coursework is, it's sure to be enjoyable!
- He'll meet his classmates too!
Feel like Ash with the Z-Ring!! Ash uses it in the anime, too: Ash obtains the Z-Ring in this new adventure! And it's already available as a toy!!
- Finish them with a Z-Move!
I see the emphasis on slapstick comedy while Ash's entire goal in school is incredibly vague. Apparently, "he'll learn and have fun together with Pokémon." And the coursework is unknown...
Remind me again why he needs to go to school...?

" In November, the Pokémon anime undergoes a renewal! What kind of adventure will it turn into next!? "
Oh no, they're planning for Gen 8 already!
Maybe the school aspect isn't aping Yokai Watch, the COMEDY aspect is.

The Protomen enhanced my life. The way they are pushing the comedy angle foes feel bit awkward. I will still watch it, but you know.
Continue the bloodline, Fujimaru!Looks like they're trying way too hard to go after the Yokai watch audience with a slapstick series (it literally says "slapstick adventure" in the official summary) so I don't know.
It'll probably have some enjoyable episodes, but it already looks like a downgrade from XY. I'm just disappointed Ash himself looks to be going through another reboot again making him more child-like and idiotic again. Didn't work when BW tried to do that after DP, no idea why they're making the same mistake yet again.
It looks like they simply put all eggs in the basket. No matter what, this will drive away the XYZ fans in droves. And now it seems they are solely targeting the children. A gamble that might end up backfiring.
And it really does smell like they are trying to go after Yokai Watch's money and ratings. And out with the old and in with the new. Except they paradoxically think that Ash should be kept at all cost despite the fact he belongs with the old.
This scenario, I've beaten this horse a thousand times, works best with a brand-new protagonist. Maybe we are lucky if they do this: Confirm that this is a new incarnation of Ash from another universe, and not the XY Ash that many have followed.
I'd like to say it seems weird, but we've seen this before.
Its the exact same thing as the DP to BW transition, only this time with a more drastic animation style change. We went from two more plot-driven or shonen series with Ash at his best and could have theoretically ended his story (DP and XY) to two more light-hearted series with a more goofy Ash like BW and Sun/Moon.
The only difference is BW still kept a more similar animation style and the 8 Gym and league formula....so Sun/Moon is a much more drastic change for dropping even that. A lot of DP fans didn't like BW, and I'm sure XY fans won't like S/M, but there will be people or young kids who like both those series regardless. There are a lot of BW fans around after all, especially on tumblr.
Who knows. I just wanted Ash to have an ending sometime in my lifetime. 20 years...
That all depends on the ratings.. and if Sun & Moon could somehow bring back the high numbers again.
A gamble like this at a time where the decline is more noticeable and people are getting more frustrated is a risky one. Especially if you keep the same Ash around.
Well the very beginning of each saga always has a ratings spike, mainly because people always check out the start of a new saga to see what's different. Sun/Moon having such a drastic change in animation is bound to make people watch the first couple of episodes just out of curiosity of how it looks.
We won't have a clear picture as to how well the show is doing until I guess mid 2017 after about 30 episodes air and we see how it goes.
To tell you the truth I prefer it playing things more tongue in cheek because half the time the writers couldn't hold up to XY's more earnest story telling and still required a lot of suspension of disbelief (it's hard to buy XY Ash as this badass shonen hero if the writers are still reliant on Plot Armor 90% of the time). At least they can just play it for what it is when it's comical.

I really liked the Darkrai movie as well. One of my favorite movies, though my favorite is still the Japanese version of the first movie.
I remember how, in the Darkrai movie, a whole swarm of Unown were sent flying away when Dialga and Palkia clashed. I then started to wonder what sort of movie we would've gotten if Darkrai had been present in the third Pokemon movie. A girl whose dreams comes to life due to the Unowns' powers is visited by a Pokemon that induces nightmares. What could possibly go wrong?
