@Blackmoon: Yeah, but not until I took the anxiety medicine/sleep aid the doctor had for people with real phobias of stuff like this—very helpful. They've got everything covered.

I can’t think of ANY junior high class that thought me long lasting lessons that weren’t better taught down the line by either High School or College. As a matter of fact, I can’t really think of any High School stuff either except for maybe some basic science, if only because I took so little in college.

I'm not going to right this moment, but consider it on my "to-do" list. So, I'll try to do it by the end of this week, which only has two more days. I'll very likely do it tomorrow afternoon, though.

My writing hasn't improved enough in college—or I don't think so, either. I'm afraid my writing somehow resists progress, and I'm not the only one who has said that it stays noobish.

The top wisdom teeth rarely hurt much. its the lower ones that usually are killer pain wise because of the bundles of nerves in the lower jaw they are near.

@lee (previous page): Oracle no longer recommends raw partitions, although the very slight performance boost from doing so would probably help a very tiny percentage of applications. Most UNI Xy systems now implement raw, unbuffered I/O on files, which was all is really needed. Databases don't want the OS caching their files, and don't need it.

Meta Four: So your bottom lip was in your lap?

My wisdom teeth removal (all four) was the smoothest procedure I ever heard of, which I credit to the fact that they didn't use general anesthesia due to my sleep apnea. I remember the team coming in, switching from one side of my mouth to the other, and then telling me to go walk to the recovery room. By the time I was ready to leave the recovery room, I was just waiting for feeling to sweep back into my face so I could eat.

The military dental butchers did my wisdom teeth. It was not a good thing.

Morven: Ah. I was working from horror stories I'd heard about it from friends years ago. (And of course, this was also on Solaris or AIX, I think, which is another can of worms...)

I used to really like Solaris, but certain people in the CD-burning world  *

have gone all Amiga about it and thus it's lost a lot of its luster. That and it's not nearly as fun to play outside of SPARC-land.

I assure you that Solaris is right here in my mind and I would be willing to do that for you, if there was need to do so. I think if twenty more years were to pass I would still be able to do so.

Solaris is a nice OS with some things, still, that Linux really lacks. However, Oracle is currently doing a nice job of ruining Solaris for anyone who's not a big corporation, so it looks like Linux for everyone else anyway.

The university that I work at is currently 100% Solaris as far as UNIX goes. Not for much longer. Oracle have been treating us and other educational institutions as unwanted since the takeover. They are making it extremely clear in subtle and less-subtle ways that unless you are paying for high-end hardware and software support, they really don't want you. We maintain our own hardware and have only working-hours software support.

It also seems like any good people left at Sun are in the process of leaving. Oracle doesn't understand any business but high-dollar business.

Don't be surprised if they get inflamed and have to come out, because that's an awkward place for a tooth to be in—that's what happened to mine.

My wife decided we should get take out and I decided on a thai place that had really good Google reviews (4 ½ stars). Price wasn’t too bad, portions where a little on the small side, and the food tasted as if the owners of the restaurant kidnapped a tiny Thai grandmother that has done nothing but make the best Thai food ever and make her cook for this restaurant.

I was going to claim that I was placated enough to note launch an IJBM on mall food, but spent so much time writing all the negative stuff anyway, that I lunched it anyhow.

That aside, if you want to spend $10 a head on some of the most delicious Thai food ever and are in North Portland, keep an eye out for Ginger Thai.
