The Valkyria were already basically tanks in a less literal sense, so I'm really okay with that, actually.
It's been fun.Whether or not I like that development depends on just what you mean by "transform". If you mean shapeshift into one, like the show, then I find that incredibly stupid.
If it's more "use large lump of ragnite, and Valkyrian power to magnetize lots of armour into a scorpion-like tank", then that's actually pretty cool.
If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television. So the new game, Azure Revolution, despite take place in the 1860s, is not related to the Valkyria Chronicles trilogy as Azure is AU but still retain some elements of the trilogy like Ragnite and the Valkyurs.
So... permadeath.

But when does the demo come out?
Oh really when?Hmm...okay, that's interesting. Will we be getting a Western release?
Oh God! Natural light!I am resurrecting this thread from the grave, as the demo for Azure Revolution is out in Japan. Here's a news article.
Here's a review I thought was interesting.
I've heard VC being compared to X-COM. Well, this honestly seems like VC's version of The Bureau: XCOM Declassified. (Heck, there's even a remake of the original...sorta.)

And in a bad way. Idiot AI, levels are either too difficult or easy based upon how over or under-leveled your team is, and the turn-based elements have been mostly removed in favor of an odd mix between Dynasty Warriors melee combat and some occasional long-range sniper shootouts. Oh, and it has damage sponge bosses.
Definitely gonna pass on this one, it's not the sequel I've been waiting for.
I mean, something akin to the real-time mechanics of say,Brothers in Arms or Full Spectrum Warrior might have been kind of cool, but this wasn't it.
World Whosball Champion 1945-1991Wow, surprised some people still remember Full Spectrum Warrior! Glad to see I wasn't the game's only fan on this site.
A pity that the sequel sucked, though...
I've started playing the first game and it's been pretty good so far. I'm up to chapter 10 and I'm really missing the instant reinforcements and APC from VC2. Welkin is a much better lead than Avan.
I've had trouble with a few missions pulling stuff out of their ass, like Jaeger's custom tank popping up out of nowhere as soon as I enter that base in chapter 6 or 7. Or needing to move Welkin and Alicia in a very specific order to make use of the healing herbs without wasting CP standing around. The Batomys fight was a bit of a pain since it takes a run or two to memorize that thing's pattern, but at least Selveria doesn't do anything as long as you keep your soldiers behind the Batomys.
I've also picked up VC2 again, just grinding out some materials to go up the R&D tree and maybe advance the plot a bit once I feel like it. Avan's a sniper for now since I felt like using one for Chloe's classmate mission and she only had the credits to become a scout vet. I hate fencers so very much. Zeri is now a pyromaniac Commando who is very helpful on escort missions, and Cosette is a permanently benched Anthem Corps.

Best way to deal with Fencers is Mortarers, Commandos, or mines. A Sniper is good unless they're crouched to the ground, and a buffed Heavy Gunner has enough interception power to penetrate their shields, but it should be noted that enemy fencers have a tendency to hit people even when they duck.
I think Zeri would have made a better lead character than Avan, but that's just me.
If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television.I normally use the APC flamer or my own fencers to deal with them, but Chloe's mission only allowed me to deploy her and Avan. There isn't much cover on the map, so a sniper can do pretty well there. I got a bit of luck with getting behind/above the enemy fencers and finished the map in two turns. And now I'll probably bench Chloe for being Moody.
I agree that Zeri is more interesting (or at least less annoying) than Avan.
Whee! Necromancy time!
One of these days, I'm gonna learn not to take an obvious "easy win" with my last command point. I got bushwhacked on chapter 14 (Naggiar, pt. 2) and now I'm rethinking my strategy a little. Since I now know where the two boss tanks pop up, I'll try to move my tanks into position on turn 2, hopefully bank a couple CP, and just pop 'em immediately on turn 3.
Hang on, is this second or first game?
If it's the first game mission I'm thinking of, I'd just send my best lancers into position before capturing the camp. Because that's what spawns the boss tanks, not the turn count.
If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television. This game has a tendency to throw sudden misses at you when you think you've got the turn in the bag once you make 'this one shot'.
And like Ekimmak said, lancers are your best bet here. Run them behind where the reinforcements are going to appear, then let warheads fly right into their radiators (it'll take two hits or so, if I remember correctly).

Peace. Pace. Sanity. Check out my DeviantArt! ^_^Yeah, Lancer Rockets can especially weird. I think the way it worked was "If RNG is below accuracy rating, attack lands within circle. Else, aim at a random place on the screen."
I've seen a 1-metre shot to an enemy engine miss the entire tank, and yet I've also managed to snipe a 5 pixel radiator from halfway across the map, so I guess it balances out?
They got a very needed buff in the sequel.
If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television.I also find it rather disconcerting how often the Imperial tanks and lancers attempt to fire at my foot soldiers.
Peace. Pace. Sanity. Check out my DeviantArt! ^_^It's a lot more annoying when they actually hit.
I remember a case where an imp lancer spent three turns approaching alicia, and the first two shots went crashing into the ground in front of him, and she unnecesarily ducked, only for the last shot to be dead on, and the one she didn't duck. So, I lost her CP for the next three turns because the RNG felt like being a smartass.
If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television.I was going to say it might be a little insight as to the mental state of the Imperial soldiers you end up fighting, but then I remembered that shooting another person with a rocket launcher is a viable tactic in most shooters, so... weird case of relentless AI, then?
Peace. Pace. Sanity. Check out my DeviantArt! ^_^@991, Ekimmak
Yeah, it's the first game and I know that capturing the base is the trigger. I was just thinking out loud based on what I managed to do on turn one before things fell apart. The main reason I want to use the tanks is that I'm pretty sure the Shamrock moves much faster than a Lancer and one of the boss tanks spawns very far from your starting position.
The Rosie side chapter was a pain in the neck, but Edelweiss saved the day by killing four cowardly scum with one mortar shot, taking out a lancer and the ace with headshots (soooo many reloads), and pinning everyone else with reaction fire.
Valid concern, but a tank is also able to run over enemy soldiers and basically ignore interception fire if it winds up a little out of position when the enemies spawn. The terrain turned out to be a bit more complicated than I thought it was, and both the Shamrock to the north and my lancer to the south needed to move a bit more than I thought they would have to. I still managed to have them in good positions when I seized the camp at the start of turn 3 and the two Dromedius tanks went down very quickly.
A whole bunch of side chapters opened up after this missions, one ridiculously easy, two kinda annoying. Last time I end a turn with someone next to a lancer in the grass.
That mission exemplifies what I hate the most about the gameplay - Guide Dang It! where the way to win isn't tactical acumen but knowing what comes next and exploiting the event flags.
How is one actually meant to win it "conventionally"?
Well now I'm more excited for the remake.
Oh really when?
