I've seen and enjoyed a lot of the movies mentioned here; one I liked which was not mentioned is The Thief of Baghdad, a fun movie which is not really accurate in its depiction of the middle east but has a nice magical feeling in any case. Also good: Man With A Movie Camera, an old Soviet movie which is similar to Slackers if anyone wants a basis for comparison. Silent movies I liked the least: Earth, another Soviet film which did have some great moments (especially the ending and the scene when the tractor arrives) but mostly was overly static, and Birth of a Nation, which is as racist as everyone says it is if not more racist, and drags like heck; it had a plot which would work for a 1 hour movie get stretched out into a 3 hour movie.

Buster Keaton, of course, is a genius. That ought to be obvious to all.

Would silent animation count under silent films?

[up]You might wanna try to post silent animation in the Western Animation forum.

If you have Eastern silent animation, I guess it's alright to put it here.
