I think that's really about not disliking the MC rather than actively liking him. Rito's fairly likeable, as he's a decent person and such.
Check out my fanfiction! This, or the next "season" of TLR will be more sci-fi and action focused. That would be interesting.
I thought a sequel series was already announced? Genre Shift maybe?
The series is over now. Well, almost.
It seems there will be two extra chapters, a 'Haruna end' and 'Harem end', and an OVA, but that's it. To quote a 4-Chan poster that seemed to match accurately the Korean scans I saw, and I think I saw all the pages even if I can't read them, 'It's open ended..kinda Rito chooses Haruna, goes around to "break up" with the other girls, They say no, and they're gonna force him to accept the harem ending, ends with momo and nemesis taking off their clothes and licking rito's body causing him to run out of the house beet red. Thanks for the support all these years!'
Oh, and the kicker? After this Yabuki and Saki, artist and writer, are splitting as a creative duo.
Literally the worst, most idiotic way this could end. Way to go, manga industry. Always topping yourself Beyond Eleven with your crappy finales.
...
Well then... That's quite disappointing. I mean, I'm probably gonna read the last chapter anyway once it comes out in English but that really takes any wind I had in my sails for the final.
What makes it worse for me is that I only recently started to get into the series and now it's suddenly ended and with a kinda "meh" ending to boot. I sure did pick quite the time to get invested.
Wait a minute...By Harem end, do you mean Marry Them All or No Romantic Resolution?[[/spoiler
We can't say until the extra chapters are out.
And the final chapter is finally been fan translated into English.
Yeah, that was a disappointing ending. It's pretty much And the Adventure Continues except Rito is heavily leaning towards Haruna and isn't that interested in the harem plan at all anymore. It's a shame because I was really starting to get into the series as well. I quite literally got into the series before the last 3 chapters were released.
Edit: Just so we're clear, I don't actually think the ending is overly bad, I just find it to be quite disappointing. Consider it a combination of the open ending leaving no resolution and the fact that I LITERALLY started reading the series just before the final 3 chapters were released.
Boy, I sure did pick a fine time to suddenly be invested. XD

…Yeah, it's pretty much "36 volumes for that". They authors take no risks of displeasing anyone here.
The only thing interesting is Mea and Nana looking like a yuri couple now.
To Love Ru always ends on a bit of a cop-out.
Then it comes back even lewder. Like a phoenix.
So the next one will be a bonafide hentai?
Technically, before this, it had only ended and returned once. Unless you're counting the anime seasons, but those depend on whatever the manga is doing, so I don't count them in.
I don't think that gives us enough as a pattern that is 'always' showing up.
Besides, fool me once, shame on on you, fool me twice...
Okay, so not worth catching up on then? That's fine, Darkness has been pretty offputting from the start so I don't really care.
A mediocre manga has a mediocre ending. Who woulda thunk it????
They had written themselves into a corner with no way to make a satisfactory ending. They end with pandering and a blank refusal to have the romance advance, as they did for most of Darkness. Haruna gets a consolation prize. They could at least have done something spectacular, like Gid coming simply to confirm he won't be destroying the Earth.
I just hope Kentarou can pair with someone who makes better use of his talent. Or at least a different theme. He's good at designing costumes, monsters, alien landscapes, spaceships and burly men, there are plenty of good writers with mediocre drawing skills who could make something great with him.
And yeah, that line about audiences liking the protagonist is weird. TLR shows you can keep a manga running with a vacuum in central place if there are pretty girls.

Stories don't tell us monsters exist; we knew that already. They show us that monsters can be trademarked and milked for years. What happened to there being two endings?
That's still a thing. They come out next month and the month after.
I've found no source for that or the claims that the writer and artist are splitting up.
There already was that fanbook thing with illustrations of a bunch of theoretical futures.
And this is why I will always Prefer High School Dx D over every other Harem series nowadays....
Watch SymphogearThe final chapter's final page listed two bonus chapters. Don't know what other source you need.
If they ditched the action and upped the art quality then maybe it might be better than TLR but right now no.
Why would DXD drop the action? That'd make them lose a lot of readership.
In regards to the art, are we talking about the manga here? I haven't read the DXD manga, but I was under the impression it was supposed to be a secondary product compared to the light novels and even the anime.
Your impression is correct.
I vehemently disagree.
Making a good ecchi harem the work needs to you know actually be about the harem. DXD's action does nothing but be a distraction to the main point because it's almost always about Issei. In contrast TLR's limited action is always about some member of the harem taking lead while Yuuki is in a supporting role or being in the way.
It's a big trend with harem shows in general that the MC basically does everything, while everyone else just gets to be a cheerleader or tool, while DXD isn't as bad as some other L Ns out there it is still pretty bad.
And it doesn't manage to avoid the terrible 'you suck because your power is different but you still win' LN trope at multiple points too.
As for art well no other ecchi series really compares to Darkness' art.
Less Issei action, more focus on everyone else, more comedy, then it might start getting close to TLR.

"Recently I've been moving on from romantic comedy manga"
So, um, isn't he doing any To Love Ru anymore after all?
Also!
No matter how attractively you draw the heroine, if readers don't like the protagonist they won't cheer on the romance.
C'mon, like anyone reads this for Rito.
