Good news for fans of Professor Layton – the third game in the series, Professor Layon and the Unwound Future, will be hitting North America on September 12, a few days earlier than the previous September 20 date.

Professor Layton and the Unwound Future places the professor and his trusted apprentice at the center of a spellbinding adventure after they receive a strange letter sent from 10 years in the future. Players must wind their way through more than 165 mind-bending puzzles as they decipher clues and strive to unlock a time-twisting mystery that threatens to plunge London into chaos.

Awesome. Is the movie (assuming it exists) gonna come over here (assuming it hasn't), too?

I keep hearing great things about these games and should probably pick them up some day. Do they have a continuity, or can you pick up any installment and feel at ease?

^Continuity, but it's an Excuse Plot anyway.

Any news on the European release date?

Sucks that the movie isn't announced in the US yet. I'll wait longer before possibly importing it.

I loves me some Layton. Technically, this will probably be my sister's Christmas gift—it's sort of become tradition, since the past two Christmases I got her the first two Layton games. But we usually end up working on them together.

It's not an Excuse Plot in the least. It's not as deep as an RPG, but I was actually quite touched by the second game, and the first game was at least pretty interesting.

I gave the link to my blog because the press release was sent directly to me. The Codemasters/unfinished game/microtransactions story, for instance, is linked to Ripten.

I cut and paste the relevant info because of the whining that I was linking to my blog.

I've been playing it for ten hours straight, and I THINK I'm on the last chapter. My brain is FRIED.

About Unwound Future...Well, is the American version worth playing, seeing how a good number of people hate Luke's American voice actress? I mean, substantially the game is the same, but is her voice acting really that bad?

^It didn't bother me any more than other obvious Fake Brit I've seen. And while I haven't played the third, the first two didn't have enough cutscenes for it to continually get on my nerves.

Of course YMMV

Hm, was too impatient to wait for the 22nd October, honestly.

So to anyone who might have asked the same question as I did: You can ignore it, it does sound different from the Britisch English version a bit, occassionally does sound a tiny bit annoying but if you aren't too picky on it or a Briton (or easily hear the differences), it is fine. After all, the puzzles and the storyline count. And the characters. And - oh, everything else.

Personally, as an overall, I never had a problem with the English (er, the American) dub of the games. I find them phenomenal. 'Course, seeing as I'm not from England, I can't say how accurate their accents are.

If there was any problems I felt concerning this, the first game's Luke indeed had that blatant Fake Brit thing going that got very bothersome. I felt the actress has gotten better (she doesn't seem to force it anymore), though it's still painfully obvious. The first game also had brief moments where the characters pause between sentences to get the lip-syncing correct, but that's a very minor problem that doesn't come up in the next game and the third game (so far, I'm only in Ch. 3). Layton's girlfriend Claire does sound a bit iffy. Not so much her voice as her acting which feels a bit stilted. It's only been two cutscenes, so I can't give a rough estimate at the moment.

Long story short: I love the voice acting and think they're pretty high quality.

Luke never bugged me, but I'm not a Brit and I didn't notice it enough.

I've thought Layton has a superb dub, personally.

Mmm, as it seems, voice acting did not stop me, partly because I'm not British English....I'm not even native English.

But I can give one very brief review on the story so far and that is TearJerker. So. Much.

Also does the TBC refer to the second trilogy, chronologically the first three stories? Or can I hope for a Layton-and-Luke-Meet-Again-after-a-few-years-for-one-more-adventure-together?

Am I the only one here in the middle of playing this? I just started Chapter 3. Really good so far.

I just finished Diabolical Box, and now I'm going to play this. I am now convinced Layton is very awesome.

You got some dirt on you. Here's some more!
