It's always a blast to pick a side and then play as the commander you're trying to kill. The sheer number of things that should be happening but can't just makes it so fun.
"Guan Yu must fight himself"
Time travel? Clones?
If it were Orochi 3, it'd definitely be time travel.
I have a message from another time...Brawl in the Family reviews the Smash series.
One direction and "one button"? Meaning not at the same time apparently...
Hehe, and the fan-fighting...
Poor Pichu and Jigglypuff and slipping Mario and...dhalsim?
I have a feeling Taranto doesn't like the competitive fanbase that much. I mean between this and the "You can make Mario fight Sonic!" to Straw!Dedede before...

"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerMore like he just isn't a part of it. Not being a part of something doesn't immediately say that you dislike it.
I just have a problem with him using The War on Straw in that one strip. Treating all of Dedede's grievances as nothing compared to Mario fighting Sonic! without acknowledging that they might actually be reasonable grievances that a lot of people have a genuine problem with.
That strip just got on my nerves.
"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerYeah, no, I don't see it that way. I saw it more like "sure, it won't be much use to a competitive player, but you can still have some good fun with it".
I'd also note that he mentions the tripping mechanic as a definite miss in the series. Complaining over the tripping mechanic is very much a competitive player thing to do, since most casual brawlers will hardly notice it (even if they generally dislike it either).
And he has both sides arguing in this one.
I have a message from another time...I hardly ever minded tripping. Didn't really ever cost me a fight.
Mhm. My understanding was that tripping was just barely a thing at casual play levels, but significantly limited what the game was capable of in tournament play.
Wait, tripping aside, are people still butthurt about the removal of their glorified bunny-hopping? They should have named it like the equivalent mechanic in Clichequest, it would have been more indicative of its users...
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."Assuming you're talking about Wavedashing, while I don't personally mind it being gone (It did, after all, look kind of ridiculous), it really did make a lot of characters more useful and entertaining to play asnote . That's why people are upset about it being removed, along with the fact that Sakurai was being actively mean-spirited while doing it.
By the way... Don't be a dick.

"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerEh. I can understand the sentiment. Competitive players are fine. Competitive fanbases however, tend to kinda suck.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."Uh, I don't think anyone likes tripping, or misses it since it's gone in Smash 4. I haven't heard anyone say they miss tripping.
I really don't think he gives a shit about the competitive side. I don't think he hates it but he's definitely not a part of it which are 2 different things. You're looking too much into it Baffle.

You got some dirt on you. Here's some more!Yeah, as someone who has relatively equal experience fighting casuals and competitive players, as far as I've seen tripping is something that inconvenienced everybody.
I don't know why casual players wouldn't notice it. It's not like running/dashing is something only competitive player do - even if rapid maneuverability is especially prevalent in high level play. Likewise, it being essential to high level play doesn't mean it's incomprehensible to someone not playing at that level.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Eh, I hardly notice it currently. Of course, "currently" means that I'm completely out of practice and barely know what's going on half the time, so that might have something to do with it.
Seriously, I just got back in Brawl to prepare for the new Smash, and I can barely beat Classic mode on normal with three lives, even though I used to do so consistently on either Very Hard or Intense, depending on the character used. Of course, changing the controller input to see if I could improve play with the Classic Controller didn't help much, but still.
Eh...I never really cared for Pichu.
I didn't really notice tripping, let alone mind it, until it brought my 8 boss kill streak on Boss Battles Intense to an abrupt and undignified end.
Never had I screamed so hard at a videogame in my life.
There's something insignificant written here, but because it's insignificant, you didn't read it.Yay, Thwomptres.
And the comic ends when Smash 4 is out on 3DS which is also my birthday! Everything is happening in the next month. My sister's moving out in two weeks too.
Here's hoping that when Brawl in the Family ends, Homestuck will be right there to pick me back up.
That's definitely on purpose. I'm not sure I believe the "didn't plan it that way". :P

"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerAlso, new KickStarter for the complete BitF collection (mostly for volumes 2 and 3, though there's some opportunity to snap up the first volume if you missed it last time around). I've made my pledge.

Switch FC code: SW-4420-1809-1805I read through the rewards and became sad upon realizing that there aren't any more Dededolls to be had.
Text I feel is necessary to append to every post.Tomorrow will be the last comic. :(
Agitha looks funny.
And I love how Zelda says "And, well, me..." like it's so obvious. Since it is.
