During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. " to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

to Malick. I'm not gonna be the one to effort post him. So disappointed he wasn't a CM.
Oh look, someone that couldn't wait 2 weeks.
I don't get it. Nobody was proposing him; why the down vote now?
Why so serious?@futuremoviewriter: Dude.......no one even brought up Malick. Or Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Why are you even bothering to vote now?
@VeryMelon: Now, to be fair, at this point Malick is irrelevant to the show, and it technically has been two weeks since that episode aired. Nevertheless, futuremoviewriter, I did put down a date for when we should discuss anyone from the show.

I write stories and shiz. You can read them here.to James Landis. The NCIS/JAG page might just set a record for number of CMs approved in less than two weeks.
to maxwell
to Landis and Maxwell
Again, I will most likely be handling the major post for all of this season's S.H.I.E.L.D. villains on May 31st, so for anyone who sees this post: Please wait until then to give your thoughts on the season's villains.

WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY!And, again, check out the Sandbox page here for other TV shows and movies. It's also in my sig now.
....I'm a little skeptical on Landis, only because at this point we have so many CMs from the series that his crimes seem kind of standard (I think that's saying something if I think a serial killer with over two-dozen kills is low on the food chain O__o). Can you elaborate a bit more, ACW?

I write stories and shiz. You can read them here.I didn't know. I'm sorry. I've been away a while, haven't watched the show since 3x16 and found out two weeks ago his arc was completed and sort of under what circumstances. I take it we're waiting until 5/31 when it's been two weeks since the season itself has ended?
I figured as much since I haven't seen you up here lately. But yes, we're waiting until the last day of the month. S'all good though. At the very least, you actually waited two weeks from that episode before bringing up Malick, so I appreciate that. Especially considering the recent spoilers that occurred less than 24 hours after an episode of some TV show aired.

I write stories and shiz. You can read them here.Oh yeah. Twitter blew up over that. You not expect people to get overexcited?
Let me just say this pertaining to Agents of SHIELD: I think we're gonna have our first season without a CM unless you count the Whitehall flashback.

On other news, has anyone seen the new trailer for The Killing Joke?
I'm kind of doubtful the Joker will qualify, at least if this movie follows the comic. But, I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Why so serious?Sauron's entry for The Silmarillion was copy-pasted over to the Lord of the Rings YMMV page. Should we let it stay there or take it down? He's basically Orcus on His Throne in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but he's also the same character in both.
Think you're tough because you made it through Lord of the Rings? Real men survive The Silmarillion.I remember that being brought up before (possibly by you), but I'm still undecided what to do about it. My instincts say cut, though, similar to how we don't need an entry for Emperor Palpatine for every Star Wars work with an individual YMMV page that just merely mentions him.
@Clown-Face: I'm still of the belief that TKJ Joker does qualify and his CM status was part of the story and character's tragedy. He had no good Freudian Excuse for being as evil and depraved as he is (not even the flashback since Joker invalidates it with his Multiple-Choice Past statement), no true remorse for his crimes, and he turns down any chance of redemption with "It's too late for me - far too late", acknowledging how far gone he is. And then he tries to equate his and Batman's insanity just to top it off. Yeah, I didn't feel too sympathetic towards him in the end.

for Landis! We did it ACW! we finally found all the C Ms we can so far and put them on the list! I feel so proud of us that I could cry!
I have to agree with this - I think he's like the third or fourth guy who's been brought up recently as having killed 20+ people.
Seconded. Once more, the potential of a jacked up heinous standard gives me pause.
Well, considering that's like 3 killers out of...dozens (hundreds?)...but if it helps, he beats his victims, and we see one (that he hasn't killed yet) tied up and bloodied. I think the others (Boone, Bright, Phantom) can all stay as well, as they all used up-close methods.

CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsAbout the Star Wars / The Lord Of The Rings debate:
It's different with Star Wars though. The originals are the ones people remember, and if First Installment Wins, The Lord Of The Rings was published first. People not seeing Sauron there would find it odd, unless you link the Complete Monster reference to YMMV.The Silmarillion.

Keeper of The Celestial FlameI changed it to this:
- Complete Monster: Sauron is a demonstration of how those who were once noble can fall to great evil. See his entry at The Silmarillion.
Also, Landis has 6 and 3 undecideds.

Why so serious?
