I can kind of see how some might like ASBAR in a "so bad, it's good" kind of way. Holy Terror, I can't even imagine why someone would want to defend that.

To take this in a more pleasant direction, what's with Roy harper taking down God Mode characters? How is this guy considered a loser?

Hes not hes just badly written a lot

The thing with Frank Miller that keeps making me bring it up is that it's hard to determine when he's exaggerating and when he's dead serious about him. Sort of a Tropes Are Not Bad Poe's Law thing

I've read Batman Year One and The Dark Knight Returns and they're both pretty good. Year One's a perfectly solid origin story for Batman (as long as you're hung up Catwoman as a literal prostitute and Batman taking the backseat to Jim Gordon bigtime) but it suffers a bit from Seinfeld is Unfunny due to the massive glut of Batman origin stories and iterations, and the more prominent role of Gordon in newer adaptations.

DKR on the other hand, I felt got it even worse and aged badly in the process. The art ranged from overly blocky to the flipping Sunday funnies, and the Batman-as-an-obsessive-control-freak-barely-contained-psychotic vibe became old hat by the time I read it.

On the other hand, I loved the DKR animated movie. It got rid of some of the negatives (chiefly cleaning up the art style on trimming down the news satire stuff) and added one of the most epic soundtracks I've ever heard.

That being sad, even DKR seems admirably restrained compared to Dark Knight Strikes Again and the stuff that came later. I did love Sin City though, but the other stuff really does seem like he became a parody of himself.

thats a nice way to kill a character

pointlessly

to a threat that has no personality of its own or a history with other characters

and immediately shoved aside to hype up the next death because these people are just tools to sell a story

I think people are starting to realise why this is so reviled

Well, after seeing all three reviews, I've only got thing to say about this miniseries: THEY JUST DIDN'T CARE.

That prose about Donna is an issue I've been having lately with the Amazons in general. Telling us they're ferocious warriors only to job them out to sell how dangerous the threat is. Donna's "nature" is soldier is only brought up so it can be extra dramatic when the Superman robot "kills" her. And the pose when she dies... I don't even want to comment on that as I'm sure what I say might get me banned.

Of course, she at least gets a funeral that is shown on the page. Lilith isn't awarded that dignity. This book could rival Identity Crisis and Cry for Justice in how much contempt it has for the characters involved.

For me, the "soldier" stuff brought to mind how these days, writers seem to focus solely on the warrior aspect of the Amazons, while ignoring stuff like "technologically advanced" and "ambassadors of peace". You know, actual nuance.

Ouf. That was jaw dropping. 'Here, have a big dramatic funeral for a character that everyone involved, including the audience, knows is going to come back, while the person who died permanently gets a throwaway line talking how people don't care as much about her. And add in a character shouting about how worthless her series was for good measure.'

I'm glad he brought up the artwork because some of the panels he was showing were distracting because of how some of the characters faces looked goofy to me.

I agree with pretty much everything Linkara said.

Pro-registration was also demonized to a ridiculous degree in tie-ins because everyone chose Anti-registration. With the atrocities in those books, it makes the ending even more of a punch in the face. I will say that Hercules killing Cloe was awesome though.

Someone in another thread said that the atrocities the pro-reg side committed were to make the event "fair" since the pro-reg side pretty much had the most logical argument.

Really? If that's the case that might be even worse. Here's hoping Civil War II won't be as bad as this.

Civil war 2 has problems of its own thus far

That is just idiotic, it's the Anti-Regs that had the better argument. Not that the pro-reg didn't have some good points, but on the whole? Only one side wanted to make anyone with powers effectively have to be slaves for the government or spend their lives in super prisons with hardened psychopathic super-villains.

Well Civil War II fridged Rhodey to give Captain Marvel woman pain, and I think they fridged She-Hulk too. Not a good start.

Well there's that and the fact that Tony caused an international incident by kidnapping and experimenting on a college student, but whatever happens it can't be worse than Civil War I...right?
